I spent 20 years in the Marine Corps and used this type of stove hundreds of times. Try doing this: fill stove half way. Pump only TEN times. open valve until you see the wick is saturated with gas. turn off valve. Light stove with valve in the OFF position. It will take about a minute and a half for the flame to heat up the vaporizer in the middle of the burner, the flame should only be about 2-3 inches high. Once it starts spitting you can open the valve, and the flame will bloom. pump 10 more times.

Like the manual says - ease the pump assembly to release any pressure. Tighten the pump assembly. 10 pumps. Open the valve 1/2 way for 10 seconds. Close the valve. Light the cup. Let the flame nearly burn out. Open the valve half way. Allow the top plate to turn white. Open the valve fully. Pump 10 times. Cook your food. Notice a pattern? It's a Coleman stove made for US conscript soldiers in the Korean War- and we used it in the Australian Army in the 1970s and 80s. I found a TM, 25 years after I last used it in the Army and never saw the TM during service.

I’ve been using mine for decades. You don’t have to do all that s**t. Follow the instructions on the label that are on the side of the tank. That’s all you need to do.

There is an easier way than this, you should not have to remove the burner. Pump up stove, open valve momentarily to prime with fuel. Turn valve off. Light 🔥 Wait until flame is almost out, then crank it up. The old ones came with asbestos wicks to hold fuel, they can be replaced with small piece of wood stove cord on all M1950’s.

Added "O" ring to the fuel filler cap. Added a wad of ceramic fiber to the pre-heat cup to absorb the fuel to safely light.

When I tried mine out a few weeks ago, I followed the instructions on the stove. The white gas does the pre-heating, but it was putting out flames 2 feet high. Kind of exciting until it gets hot enough to settle down. I think I'll do it your way next time. Thanks, Ernie.

You bled too much fuel out. You only need a tiny amount. And you don't need the hassle of a second fuel type.

How would you go about seeking the pump so it doesn’t leak fuel if tipped over?

did not have any idea. used / issued one of these for the field in the marines back in late 70's, I have had one for a long time now, it needs new gaskets , any idea on availability or can you consider a rebuild/refurbish video ? And I really enjoy all of your videos and their content. Thanx

I have the 1946 model by Coleman same design from my dad's estate
@CherokeeTwilight
@CherokeeTwilight 2 года назад
That design wasn’t created till 1950. It’s the M1950, its a boiler so to speak. There’s not much variable for heating, 1 speed for the most part. If its a 46, most likely a 530, chrome, no feet, different pump, different valve, different pot supports, and has more flame control.

White gas. Coleman liquid fuel.

Supposed to be multi fuel. Av gas, kerosene, regular gasoline, although I wouldn't recommend methanol/ gasoline mix. Too much water. And white gas of course
