Enjoyed video. Good job with visual use of maps and sonar. I see videos and references to weed edges, but I never see any weeds on sonar where I fish. I live in the south. Are the weeds that you referring to generally in all or at least most lakes or more prevalent in certain parts of the country. Without knowing where you are fishing, I seem to see more mention of catching crappie in weed edges from lakes in the northern part of U.S. Never notice any local postings that mention weeda. Local postings that I am referring to mention brush piles, docks, etc., but never notice any mention of weeds. Any thoughts?

Wesley Hughes I fish mostly in Wisconsin and Minnesota. On our lake we mainly have cabbage which grows like thin corn stalks with smaller leaves. This type of weed can grow in 20+ feet of water and can grow 10feet tall or more. In the south (I don't know where you fish) let's Texas has a lot of hydrilla and coontail. I see these weeds a lot in bass fishing videos from the south. I think the reason you see either brush piles or rocks in crappie fishing videos from southern states is because there are a lot of large reservoirs that are just flooded timber. Crappie can find shelter and forage in that timber and may not need deep weeds. In northern lakes, there may only be deep weeds or rocks as cover for fish. Hope this helps.

Fish lakes in North Carolina. Yes that makes sense. Your videos are very thorough. Any suggestions finding brush piles when you have no idea where they are located? I have Humminbird 7 inch side imaging unit. I have watched videos about finding brush especially for summer time crappie fishing, but have had very little success in finding these brush piles. I guess not looking at right place as others indicate not that hard to do with side imaging. At some point, I will try to put out my own brush, but so busy that I have not taken time to so. Any information you can provide would be appreciated. Thanks

Wesley Hughes I am actually filming a video on find cover this weekend. I would start in areas where fish would normally be even if there was a brush pile. If there are creek channels in the lake look for bends in the creek channel. A lot of times flooded timber with stack up in the back side of the creek bend due to the current creating an eddy. Otherwise find the bays the fish would spawn in (large shallower areas 5ft or less) and then look for the nearest deep water. The dropoff from deep water to shallow is where you may find some brush piles placed since all fish species use this structure during the summer.

I go camping tomorrow and there is a public pond that is really big. The water over there is usually murky with only a few feet of visibility, and the bottom consists with a lot of weeds as you go further to the middle of the pond. Do you have any recommendations for what I should use?

Keeran Outdoors well if there are crappie in the pond I would throw a black/chartreuse tube on a jig with a bobber set so that the jig is just above the weeds. You will have to guess on how deep to set the bobber. I have found darker colors like black, brown, dark green are more visible in murky water, so that's what I would start with. You can switch to pink or white if the dark colors aren't working. Cast to the deepest part of the pond and slowly reel in a few feet at a time while letting the bobber pause for a few second. Its summer so the crappie are going to be in the deepest (coldest) water during the day. You may find them shallower in the early morning are and dusk. Let me know how you do and good luck!
