As a Black nonbinary person, I have a complicated-ass relationship with androgyny, the pressure to be androgynous, and how white and thin and inaccessible it has always felt to me, so I cannot say how much I appreciate this channel. It has actual applicable and general advice, you break things down in a way that can apply to multiple people instead of just telling people to wear a button down and slacks, and your advice also incorporates some femininity and isn't afraid of having those moments or wanting to be pretty. It's just a whole vibe! I just cleaned out my closet last night and this video dropped today, things are lining up.
@@selfsurrender This is late but I wanted to say that Black and POC goths are everything and every time I'm privilaged enough to see one it makes my day better. You being a goth matters and is so valuable to all the Black and melanated kids and adults who want to express themselves in a new and unique way. It's hard and easy to feel discouraged when you never see yourself, but know that people see and love you and your style.
Being gender non conforming, The hardest would be “show skin” (esp coming to summer) because I feel like I need to hide some features and flaws and body parts beneath clothes but you know what I will celebrate skin this summer because life is short and at the end of the day this is me!
My problem is that I am AFAB and my aesthetic surround ‘femboy’ territory. I want to be feminine in a boyish way. Which basically means, trying to make myself look like a feminine boy just makes me look like a woman.
Similar problem here. I'm AMAB and I wanted to look like a girl who looks like a boy, it's the aesthetic I'm mostly drawn to since even before I realized it. But I'm afraid I'll only look like a man which would be boring or like a boy which would be weird for my age :(
thats exactly what i have as an AMAB, i wanna wear cute but baggy clothing in a girl type of way, but it just makes me look like a guy :[. though i gotta say, i can make it work sometimes, sometimes i cant, just gotta get more consistent with it
I know this video is titled how to LOOK more androgynous but i would advise also being aware of your smell. From your shower gel, to your hair products, to your skin care products be aware of what they smell like and where you want to fall on the femme to masc spectrum in that sense! Just a tip
I always imagine myself with a 20s style haircut with finger waves and vintage, dark, makeup look. I would probably wear a masc cut suit, tons of jewelry, heels and maybe some Prada glasses. It sounds like a lot going on, but I feel I would be my most confident self.
@@idkwuzgoinon you should go for it! i have a round face too and i shaved my head a few years ago and actually loved it so much. the bad side tho is when it grows back awkwardly. but besides that you should go for it
As an androgynous person, internally and externally, I've had top surgery. But i used to wear binders (recommend GC2B) or sports bras or nothing. Something you could try if you're small chested enough to not have obvious cleavage, I'd recommend for the show some skin bit for a masc look, try a mens button up w some exposed chest (like a vacation shirt or something esp during summer) and pair that with a necklace to add a lil bit "femininity" OH and typically thinner jewelery is read as fem and chunkier jewelry as masc. Also now that shorter shorts for men are in style it's much easier if you do want to show some leg to not have to do it in such a feminine way. I usually get right above the knee and some of my swim trunks are a tad shorter but then a kinda oversized mens shirt to add some flow and drape. That also helps so that the whole outfit isnt seeming too fitted which can come off as maybe too feminine depending on your body type. Also if you want to have a crop top moment, id recommend doing so w mens jeans. You can pull em up w a belt or let em sag a bit and maybe even have an exposed boxer band moment. Depending on which direction you wanna lean more towards w the fem and masc expressions. Just trying to leave some helpful examples that hopefully different body types can play around with.
"Be yourself" honestly when i came out as nonbinary a couple of years ago I really needed to hear that !! I was so torn on how i was supposed to present mostly cause i didn't feel like i could ever present as the typical white skinny androgynous look due to my body shape! I spent years exploring more masculine styles and cuts until I finally found what felt the most comfortable and me which was really combining very feminine colors (i've found a new love for pink and pastels) with more masculine cuts. I'm now able to really combine my feminine and masculine sides in a style that feels so right and perfect for me!! This video and channel is just perfection I wish i could have found this when i came out :)
I like expressing myself through fashion. I guest I do dress more androgynous from time to time but I never set out to do it. Something I do that confuses the ish out of people is to have the masculine Clothing but Accessories with feminine pieces. Nothing hits better for than to "look" masculine but smell more "feminine (like a floral/sweet/fresh perfume)
@@Marlene8048 You’re telling the truth. Left from work to do something with my wife and this guy hits on me when I’m the one wearing the tie and slacks. I’m thinking umm you can tell that I’m not straight so why bothering me and I have my whole wife right here with me.
I always like dressing androgynous but as a black woman I also always felt like being feminine was more revolutionary for me. I was never truly seen as feminine so when I wear a dress it's like im fighting some battles and working on myself lol. But when i dress in pants and a baggy sweatshirt, I feel like no one bats an eye.
5:03 that is all I want to do in life, that is my goal. I do not dress to impress “boys”I dress to make people think “wow they’re cool and I don’t even know them”
I am a binary person but I've always liked to confuse people. I love wearing a colorful simple makeup with more masculine clothes, I love presenting masculine with a feminine style, and overall I love looking androgynous, even though I don't feel genderless. I think it really helps with my confidence and style.
you make me feel more confident in finding my androgynous style. i didn’t really dress that androgynous before and i never felt like myself but since I’ve watched your videos I’ve been trying to find my style and you’ve helped me become more confident in exploring my gender expression through clothing.
I love more masculine leaning androgynous looks that involve way too oversized tshirts/long sleeve shirts and straight cut saggy pants.. but I live in a climate where it’s constantly hot and muggy?? Everyone out here walking around in short shorts and tank tops but I just can’t do it lmaoo so I must suffer through the sweat. Good tips!!
I've got the same issue, and honestly I've just started incorporating my less beat up work pants, which are nice breathable but durable fabrics into my daily outfits and it's worked surprisingly well. You definitely have to have a fairly rugged, casual-leaning style to make it work, but if you can, it's super comfy in the heat while still looking kickass and boxy.
Nice tips as always. I’ve always done the androgynous look before I even knew the correct term for it. People always trying to figure me out. Had a guy & woman discuss my sexuality not thinking that I heard them in a store one time. So funny to actually put a name to it.
im been experiencing crazy gender dysphoria (im bigender) and i havent even DONE anything but just watching this video makes me feel... lighter, almost. THANK YOU !!!
not @ me going through a gender and gender expression crisis related to androgyny for the last couple weeks and you dropping this video in the perfect moment!!
Tip, maybe, about dressing both masc and femme. I really really like putting outfits together to look pretty masculine on the top and feminine on the bottom (or the other way around of course). Like I love wearing dresses and skirts, and making the top half more masculine really does it for me at least. I also have short more masculine hair and a feminine face so yeah, that’s just how I like to do it. I also like wearing masculine outfits with makeup on and more feminine accessories and stuff. I do really wanna be able to dress fully feminine though(like a flowy dress with a floral pattern or something) as an afab person, and still be able to confuse people about my gender. Like I really wanna be able to do that but it just seems so hard if not impossible so if anyone has some tips about that that would be really helpful
Yeah… them birds are finta start a whole revolution over there! 😶😅 But that show some skin tip hit different with your explanation Jade! Something to really think about! 🙌🏽💜
Hey~~~~ You are incredible! Thank you so much! I came across this channel yesterday and watched this video! I used some of the advice and today as soon as I met one of my friends they said “Wow, someone’s serving masc today!” Indeed, today I was a woman who was THRIVING in androgyny! Thank you for the advice and the confidence boost! ❤
I´m femenine as F, like cottagecore dress with corset kinda fem, but I just looove Jade so much. I just want to follow her advice just to say that I did cuz she´s coool
I’m Agender (and closeted.) and recently I just adopted the skater boy look because if I can’t see the lines or bulge or anything that reminds me of what I am. I’m happy. Baggy is my look I guess. Although layering with funky open button downs is also my look. My look is yes, honestly.
I’m a muslim and a hijabi so being androgynous is hard to achieve.Like I love wearing my hijab but I’m having hard time to express myself since I always feel feminine when I’m in my hijab.Maybe I just should experiment with my outfit more..
This might or might not help depending on your personal style but maybe check out Juliette Motamed's character Ayesha on the show We Are Lady Parts? Her style is very punk but she's a hijabi too, and some of her looks on the show have a masc/androgynous edge to them! She does accessorise but you could edit the jewellery as you like I guess? Also forgive me if this is ignorant, but would experimenting with the drape styles help? Or maybe like heavier or darker coloured fabrics? Dunno if the heaviness would be practical.. Orrr maybe even like caps or bandanas on top of it... that's sounding kinda goofy actually nvm. But good luck, you've got this!
I love this channel (and your content in general, even though I lean more stem). It's so nice because I too am... blessed in the chest area (as the older ladies in church would call it) and it's often super frustrating to find clothing that fits me how I like while not emphasizing the ladies. Question: Would you be open to doing a video of 'styling dupes' for some of the higher end clothes you've showcased in the past? A lot of the things my brain says yes please while my wallet gives me no no no.
I literally avoid public bathrooms to avoid the “is that a man in the women’s room?” looks. Like nigga I’m here to pee not explain that I am a lesbian that looks very masculine
Me, being a black African american androgynous person. My mother and I have different views on fashion i like to adventure out into new aesthetics and she prefers to stay in the box of feminine clothing.
The civil rights crows at the end had me fucking dead😂 I was sitting there like "bitch are those crows" and they were crows! Love the video and tips and you💛. This filled my Black NB heart🤟🏾
"Challenge what people perceive as beauty": The number of times I was mamed at work both cracks me up feel sad for people as I was wearing my mask and always sport a beard. As a former missionary with right side hemiplegia, it's kinda hard to be unnoticed. It's always best to have your wits sharp as a tack and challenge pea brains ideas. The same way I tell people who commend me for being a cashier while others rather sit at home. As I flip the script on what should be expected of everyone. It's just endemic of a grander problem in how we characterize disability in our culture. Don't ask the question even though you're clearly staring or curious. If anyone is uncomfortable with a topic they'll tell you. Asking about a scar is no different than complimenting/inquiring about tattoos. You never know what friendships you gain from having open discourse.
I'm agender, and I've been putting together a style that I can feel comfortable with, I'm still in process. First to go was skirts, frills, fem shirts, heels, pink nail polish, perfume, a new makeup look, then hair...I'm hoping that your video has more answers 😊
Hey Jade! I just came across your channel while looking for tips on dressing more androgynous (and just exploring what that even means). I recently came out as queer a couple years ago and as per the timeline am now really exploring gender. I've found (even though I know clothes don't correspond to gender) that I feel most myself when dressing more androgynous. These tips were so helpful - thank you so much! I have my own channel talking a lot about lifestyle from a mental health perspective + really stepping out of societal norms in all areas. I just started it and now have so much more respect for creators knowing how much goes into each video. So appreciate you a ton! Just subscribed and excited to follow along more.
Do you have any tips for workwear? I’m non binary and any kind of formal clothing is really difficult for me cause the things that fit my body tend to be stereotypically more femme and I hate it
Try mens wear pants with a womens blouse. Wear a vest with it with sensible shoes which are better for your feet. Or maybe try a knit hoodie. Shop both sections.
i recently realised my body is so weird because im rlly skinny but i have wide hips and i cant get any jeans or tight fitting bottoms from the "mens" section cause they just dont go past my thighs lmao
If you haven’t already, try “athletic fit” men’s section jeans. They’re cut to be wider in the butt and thighs. I have a butt and hips, and it’s the first time I’ve gotten men’s section pants to fit me and actually look good.
So glad this was in my recommended. Not even four minutes in and I'm subscribed. Quality advice aside, I love your vibe. You seem like you'd be fun to hang out with and also listening to you talk is just kinda relaxing. Godspeed on whatever endeavors you are on and bless.
Thank you for this video! it was not just very good information I can use for me it also gave me a lot of inspiration and with your videos it always makes me more confident in wearing more androgynous clothing or in general gives me more inspiration for me to evolve my style to what I feel more comfortable/confident in !!! 🥰 🙏🙏✨
See I’m androgynous without trying honestly it used to upset me when I was mistaken for a woman but now I’ve grown more into the idea of being a chaos gremlin and confusing as many people as I can, I’m thinking of getting these 2 skirts honestly, one is long and I want to overlay them and then wear like a cropped sweater or something with long red sleeve and my black leather jacket I think it’s gonna look dope in boots 🤤
