This is just a quick update, with custom springs coming next week, we should be able to break this down into a how to series that you can use to lower your bikes. Updates coming.
5'5" Here with a 29.5in inseam! This sounds great, I need to find a 250 trail bike that I fit on and seeing so many 35-36" seat heights has always been disappointing.
i am currently about to begin lower some 06 kx250f forks internally so go exited when i saw this series because this is one of those topics cant seem to find alot of info on. Can't wait till you get the rest out.
This will prove interesting. If I had my way, I'd like to get my hands on a smaller dual sport for my wife to ride. She's only an inch shorter than me, and honestly she handles my KLR just fine. Its her confidence level that drags her down. A lower and lighter bike would be best for her. Its one of the things I want to get for her. Keeping her riding as long as possible is my goal.
Yes, it changes the geometry of the chassis, makimg the back low, and the front high, (like a chopper) which will make the bike more stable in a straight line, but be very difficult to turn, and will always go wide in a turn.
I just bought a 2013 CRF450R, I’m 5’6” with a 28” inseam... would have never thought to lower it due to the change in dynamics and suspension, I’m interested to see what you come up with. Thanks!
Allen, we ended up lowering the suspension 1.5", and took another 1" of seat foam out for a totat lowering of 2.5". The kids love it, and I've done it to 3 of their bikes now.
That's awesome that you can get those bikes set up to improve their confidence!! What's the ball park cost of what you did to the bike you've done so far?? I'm looking to get a dual sport and I'm 5' 7" and may need to shorten the bike I get (not sure which brand bike yet).
Im 5'6 and 155. I struggle like crazy with my new 2015 RMZ 250. I would like to do somthing like his. Can I get your email to get some help with finding the right parts?
180 is heavy? Geez I reckon you would require me to purchase a overweight permit to enter Utah haha. I love my Rekluse makes it lots easier on the arthriest. Take care and stay safe
These two bikes are 1.5" lower through the suspension, and another 1" in seat foam, so they are 2.5" shorter overall, and easily managed by my shortest son who was 5'3" tall.
twisted intentions Unfortunately, you cant just cut one end, because as you shorten a spring, it actually stiffens it. So, you have to have a custom spring rate spring made at the correct length so that the springs are not too stiff amd stay balanced with the rear.
Keaton Enright Since the bikes are all back together, I cant measure them, and each bike will have a different length, so it would be best to disassemble your forks and measure them specifically. What bike are you lowering?
Keaton Enright They are completely different forks bud, in order for you to get the right ones, you need to call Racetech, and talk to their tech guy Louie, and he will get you the proper spacers and spring lengths.
