This Video shows in full detail how to lower and raise a smart car roof on the convertible as well as remove the side rails for the FULL topless EXPERIENCE
I got a Fortwo cabriolet from 2001, driven only 77000 km so far :). I know exactly what you mean about getting that more open driving experience by taking the bars off. But I take the bars off only when I go on a long drive on a warm sunny day. Nice video!
Just got a Smart passion 451 from 2013 from my Dad for my 60th birthday🎉. Thanks for your video where you explain the roof and the roofrails excelent! Greetings from The Netherlands
I LOVE the Netherlands. Great Airforce. Thanks for taking the time to appreciate. These are brilliant cars. Just change the oil twice a year. They are fabulous for your country. Happy Birthday from Wales - UK
@@smarte.r.1450 to be honest i think you explained really well and even repeated process. 5 star video and no worries lol here on youtube we usually keep our heads up even if writing comment while a tsunami is happening xD 😎
I watched A Good Year again the other day and it got me interested in these. Despite Russell Crowe’s character actively disliking the car the movie managed to make it look pretty cool. Almost like a 21st century 2CV especially with this roof. Great video!
These really are great “cars” people forget to categorise them and be aware of their designed purpose. It’s a CITY CAR for two people. It can do distance at motorway speeds but, it’s more comfortable at city driving. I’ve had these for almost 10 years now and always put a smile on my face. Best of luck with your car hunting and thanks for taking the time to chat 😊
@@smarte.r.1450thanks! Not even looking for one really I just have a hobby of wasting time on RU-vid and even Autotrader looking at things 😂 I’ve got an Alfa Giulietta which has been super reliable (clearly one built on a Monday morning) and is a great size for both city and motorway driving. Maybe I’ll give Smart a go some day though for the sheer fun factor! Cheers
Hey, how you doing? haha, this is exactly what I got. Still only 4,000 km in the meter, not really drive much, but we took a long drive yesterday for 400 km return trip! That is a really lonnnng trip for our smart :D .
Awe Bummer. I just wrote to you on another of your videos about my roof not working. Now that I know I can make this car a Full open convertible, I gotta fix the roof for sure!
Hi. I’ve seen your other message. Once these fabric roofs fail they are almost always beyond economical repair. Depending on the climate you have depends on first instance where the fault of a “leak” may be. People in California complain of the material shrinking and needing a new fabric replacement. The kit is approximately £450-£600 gbp There are many micro switches which, in themselves are expensive but, are very very time consuming. I’m guessing the labour was the cost of the first repair to just get it closed up. I know in the states they are becoming more and more rare and when they fail exceptionally expensive to repair. If you are in Europe. Look for a smart independent specialist. They are about. And get an appraisal on the cost. If it’s as bad as you say. I’d walk away from the whole idea sorry unless you can access a damaged donor car and cannibalise it Good luck with you adventure
@@smarte.r.1450 Thanks for the advice. I'm in the US. I wouldn't mind if there was a way to manually open and close it. The main problem is getting it to seal tight when it closes. I'll keep your advice in mind and perhaps try to find a book that covers the roof repairs and check with local car junk yards for parts.
The back window is woven into the cloth roof. The roof folds away in two movements. The video shows all the functions of the cabriolet. The window is not removable 😉
Just bought a used 2009 cabriolet, I live in Southern California so I am exited about using the top down feature, except for today, it’s 97 degrees and boiling hot.
This goes for the Smart fortwo passion cabrio 450 2006 modell as well? I cant seem to do more with the roof button then stage 1 of this...maybe i have to do the second part myself ?
@@smarte.r.1450 so nice to hear. I have been wanting a smart car for years. hoping to get one this year. ☺️ thanks for the nice demonstration. have a great day. ☺️
I've noticed a fair bit of wind noise which sounds like it's coming from the front seal at the top of the roof. This is especially bad if going over 60 mph. Have you had any issues with this?
Hi, A bit off topic but thought you could help. My interior light has never worked since I got my Fortwo. I have replaced the bulb and fuse to no avail...... any ideas at all? Thanks
Smart E.R. Yeah, not recently but I did pop it out before to replace the bulb hoping that would work. I will go over it all tomorrow to check I’m not doing something stupid. Had a bad day today. Previous owner has manage to cross thread the sump and now I can’t tighten it up and have a steady leak. Trying to find away of sorting without having to get a whole new sump!
Alex Argiropoulos I’m sorry Alex then you’ll need to do some fault finding. Lookup on the internet evilution a really techy Smart car engineer. Personally I’d get a voltage testing kit and test the unit seems very unlikely that the problem is in the wiring loom.
Dizzil1973 Brown good question. That flashing symbol is there when your car is due a service. Once garage has done an oil and filter change for example they will normally reset it and it disappears. Hope that helps
Tiffany N. Gilley I smile ever time I get in it. I also have a smirk this time of year when people I see every morning all year round give a little superior look at Smarty are now envious when the top is down and I nip in and out of small gaps in traffic keeping cool and enjoying the rare Uk sunshine 🌞
As in roof?? I believe the 2004 would be a first generation model. I‘ve not had an early model sorry. Lookup EVILUTION on google. His site is filled with data on everything SMART
My roof will not go up anymore the fuse is not blown I don't know what else to do do you have any suggestions or anyone who might know? Thank you so much
Awwww nooooo. What a shame!!! It could be so many things … it could be the switch , the motor or one of the micro switches…. Do you hear any sounds when pressing the switches??
When I put my roof all the way down it comes up with A C on my dash and bleeps at me 🤔 I have to click it back up to stop it how do I get it all the way down without it beeping
All the smart 451 (for two) retract only and you can remove the roof rails. It may seem a small thing but with the top rails removed it gives a very open air feeling.
@@8dragon1o passion is the trim level. If it’s not a Smart Fortwo cabriolet then it’s not a convertible.. If you are in the Uk enter the registration into the dvla ROAF FUND LICENSE CHECKER OR MOT checker .gov website or even a site like confused.com will normally tell you it’s a convertible
yeah @@smarte.r.1450 I like the cabrio. I have a question about the soft glass in the back. do you have a garage where you put the smart when you are not using it? im also looking a smart but I am thinking about the safety of it.
These have stopped being made now and there is a newer version.you can pick this up in the UK for about $3-4k.... the newer versions (see my other videos) are more refined with better technology.. these start from around $7k and are no longer made with a petrol/Diesel engine.. only available brand new as Electric
