When you are building a vehicle like earl the motor tends to be the main point. Today we show you why its a good reason to clean up your engine. For us it was a motor that no one loved and never changed the oil resulting in caked up oil everywhere. Enjoy!
I understand it is long so I have tried to add time stamps below to various sections you may be interested in:
1:00-8:57 Parts
8:57-14:21 Prepping Block
14:22-15:48 Oil Bypass Install
15:48-19:08 Bearing Clearance Check
19:08-24:23 Piston Install
24:23-30:40 New Oil Pan Clearance Issue( Windage Tray)
33:08-40:02 Head Stud and Head Install
40:02-43:15 Installing Rocker Arms
sidestep LS1Tech Info

8. Rotate the crankshaft 360 degrees.
9. Tighten the following valve rocker arm bolts: Tighten

I'm glad you give the real world tips to actually rebuild an engine at home. Not like those guys that im glad they can AFFORD everything Matco or Snsp In tools and Degrees tools and they and up doing the same job as HARBOR FREIGHT tools do anyways. So I'm glad there's some one that actually gives tips like your self thank you for that I appreciate it like I said we don't have or you don't have to have Matco or Snap On tools to do any of this type of work or rebuilds at home for your engine to work that engine will work just as good with common sense settings and any hand tools that a person can AFFORD thank you for that. And yes people can go ahead and call me jealous type a person because I can't afford tools like that and probably you are right but like I said I live in a real world where I struggle day by day so yeah I guess I'm cheap or I try to save as much is I can thats the reason I'm doing it my self tk begging with, so yeah plus I rather put the money on my bills and family or on my engine than keep making Corporation like Matco and Snap On tools richer for a ridiculous wrench for example a 9 1/6 Snap On brand tool would be 35 bucks when you can get it the whole set of wrenches for the same price at HARBOR Freight at the and of the day they happen to be lifetime warranty anyways and I don't have to make payments or wait for the Snap On truck to come by and pick up my payments and tools at the same time thats TO MY SELF JUST A WASTE OF AMERICANS WASTE OF MONEY. AMEN

Aersome!! I can't wait to see more videos. Subscribers are increasing!! Edit: I installed Patriot Performance Heads on my LS1 in my 86 Trans Am a few years ago, I didn't adjust the rocker arms. Because they were pedestal mount I remember reading it didn't call for it. I never encountered a issue. I like those studs. I used ARP head bolts because there was no way i had the clearance for head studs lol

Heck yea man this channel is growing. I dont think I could be doing this without each and every one of you guys so thank you so much. One day I will get me a set of aftermarket heads once funds become available. I did just buy a very large and expensive part for earl though im just waiting on it to be built. It should help put all that new power to the ground.

im sure you are aware of head gasket size changing compression,incase anyone watching and doesnt know this,yep you can achieve higher compression just by changing the gasket or lower depending on your preference.little things like this you know lol
@southerngearz
@southerngearz Год назад
Yea I have heard that even as little as a 5 layer mls to 7 layer mls is enough to change compression.
@onewheelup

@@southerngearz yep i had no idea,i heard them talking about it on hotrod garage,he was putting a turbo on a ls and installed different size gaskets for compression and i was like damn,thats critical stuff haha

I rebuild mine by the, manual. (4.3) it says in there to torque the main caps down BEFORE, honing. Also, i almost fuxked up in how i clocked my, rings. If you dont account for one bank being upside down once you slip the rods over the, crank? Half of your rings wont be clocked, correctly. Thank heaven i built my engine by the book coz I would have made a few mistakes.
@southerngearz
@southerngearz Год назад
Yea we shall see how it goes i can get another 6.0 for $250 so no sweat. Hopefully I dont have to though.

It's deglazing with the dingle berry not honing
@nobullshiit5682
@nobullshiit5682 Год назад
which grit dingle ball hone are you using ?
@southerngearz
@southerngearz Год назад
So the ring manufacturer will specify the level of grit needed but typically 230-400 grit works fine
@nobullshiit5682
@nobullshiit5682 Год назад

I used a 4 inch ball hone

you are supposed to torque your main caps down BEFORE honing the, cylinders... 😂😂😂

Ooops well it runs fine
@southerngearz
@southerngearz 2 года назад
If you dont mind me asking though, why do you torque the main caps before you hone? I did a bunch of research on it prior and no one mentioned that. Not saying you are wrong just would like to know so next time I can do a better job.
@dgc940
@dgc940 2 года назад
He must be confused with line honing mains. which cant be done at home. and GEARZ even if you ran the original rings which I wouldn't because so cheep you still need to hone if disturbed and if bad worn will never seat up no matter what! Check ring gap before running used rings and look over for thin wear spots. Also the hone going up and down as fast as you can is not correct you need a wider cross hatch then that will produce going that fast if you dont want a oil burner or better chance not! and don't over think it Ive built 100's engines this includes boats bikes pwc's and Chevy's although never a LS yet! even lawnmowers lol and use wd40 always seat up.
