Daniel what I really like about your video's is that talk and show what your doing as I am really interested in trying black smith I've been hunting for an anvil been and looked at some but a friend said it would to much work to resurface anvil and my friend says that it have be on a mill and can't get someone with milk to grind the surface flat to weld on new steel 😪

I have been wanting to make this tool now I have more than just my imagination to do it...the first one Im did was a repurposed ball peen hammer. Now I can have one made from scratch.

Thanks a lot Daniel, that was the video I needed to see for my hammers ^^. The list of tools I still need to get in order to make a hammer gets shorter and shorter. Nice. So I will reorder a few hammer blanks for making hammer eye punches. I think 3 blanks should do it, one will be good. ^^

Hi Daniel. I really like your work, been binge watching your channel all week haha and i'm really glad i found your channel. If I may suggest, try welding up a couple 4 inch lengths of round bar onto 1/2 inch flat (so they don't tip over or roll away). Make the round stock's top face the same radius as your favorite hammer making fuller. Then you can set those on opposite sides of your hardy while you're driving the drift. This will protect the cheeks and any unwanted marks on the tools you're forging, especially on rounding hammers. I've also seen similarly where someone made vice toppers for the same purpose and work just as well as long as the vice is setup low enough to let you power the drift in without being too awkward (i do mine on a striker anvil). Keep making awesome videos :)

Nice work ! You might want to consider dressing the mushroomed head on that one hammer . I seen two fellas drifting out a track pin , one swinging a sledge hammer and the other holding the pin hammer , and a piece of the mushroomed face on the pin hammer broke off when the sledge hit it and went through the cheek of the fella that was holding it - he sports a pretty nasty scar on his face now .

G'day Dan, I made a rounding hammer yesterday in a class but had a striker. Regarding content I'd be interested in seeing some techniques for punching hammer eyes etc where the person may be working solo and not have a ton, (or many tonnes ;), of equipment. I imagine a lot of people starting in this area would be in that situation. Sorry if you've already covered it. That's a great looking tool BTW.

Dang nice eye-punch, sir. Looks great. Where down you pick up a beater? I can't seem to find a reliable one who can hit square. LOL Just joking, I haven't even gotten a forge set up yet, long way from needing a beater. Thanks for the video. Guess to begin, I'll just have to hit it a few more times myself and hold the drift in a collar locked tongs made to fit. Can't wait to get started, but funding being what it is, could be a while. Being disabled sucks.

Thank you for this! I landed here on my writer's research for my book. So, just to make sure - the part (drawn out cheeks) of the hammerhead enclosing the handle is ALSO called "eye"? I searched for parts / anatomy of a hammer pictures on Google and was a bit confused by that. Also, I would like to know, what place would be preferred for engraving touchmarks on a hammer? Is that individual? I thought to describe very small, almost hidden ones in my book along with other special marks serving as a sort of certificate. Thanks in advance! Viola

Really enjoyed this video, this is a tool thats on the top of my to-make list so having a really nice step by step process to follow is going to be really helpful for that. I did have a question though I noticed that you put a wedge in your handle to keep the punch on, I've also seen some people suggest not putting a wedge on and just re-seat the handle whenever it gets loose because struck tools like these tend to break handles. Do you always seat the handles with wedges or do you sometimes not and what are your thoughts there? As always thanks !

One of your best video's so far Dan. Really good instructional content and it made me laugh at the start (the hand cards for the measurements was quality) and at the end. I often heard "You had four f*ing Shreddies this morning, didn't you?" in a sarcastic manner when someone turned into a beast. Not sure you're old enough to remember that ad campaign though. I always preferred Weetabix anyway. :)
