I watch this video a year ago and made the jig and it's a brilliant idea still use the jig well better than a jig off internet

Phil, I made one of these last weekend as I had 8 1930’s oak doors to fit during the week. It worked very well and saved a lot of time. I didn’t have the doors with me when I was making it to get an exact measurement of width so just went with 35mm. It ended up about 1.5mm off centre but I can definitely live with that. I have a souber for mortise locks and could have set that up but making the jig is far quicker. Cheers pal👍🏻

Thanks for the video, but when cutting on the table saw, push the piece through that is in between the fence and blade, the cutoff is of secondary importance and if pushing that part of the piece through, there is potential for kickback.

Never get round to making a jig but I have a lot of oak doors to fit this month so think it’s time. I too use the trend hinge jig so the fact your jig marries up with the same cutter etc makes it even more appealing. Cheers mate

I am a joiner myself and have used jigs for Many years now yes they take a little time to make but they are worth it and a lot cheaper than buying them 🤣 but I have to say that the older joiner’s like my dad used to hang 20 doors a day with no jigs l don’t condemn jigs l think they are great but we must not forget the old ways great video sir stay safe 👍

Absolutely, jigs can save time and gain money. Unfortunately back when your father was on the tools there was quality materials and craftsmen who actually cared about the craft. Rather than what we are exposed to nowadays 😅

I like it Phil👍 I use the sauber lock jig, which is great but has a lot of components plus it's another box to carry in and needs a big rpm drill to be any good. I will try this.
@PhilEdwardsCarpenter
@PhilEdwardsCarpenter 3 года назад
I have always been put off by people using the sauber to cut faceplates, seems tricky! But for sashlocks I can see the sauber being a lifesaver
@jrsuk1170
@jrsuk1170 3 года назад
@@PhilEdwardsCarpenter The face plates are easy, you just need the right sized cutter for the width. You've also got to release when you tighten the jig it lifts slightly so you have to allow for it. On a full house of doors it's great, very fast but a lot of faff to get used to. It's not worth setting up for just a couple of doors. It is a no brainer on sashlocks.

Alternatively you can just mitre glue scraps of mdf around the face plate and use a pattern router bit.. perfect

Is there any fancy way of getting the centre marked for the 25mm spade bit for the latch mortice hole? Or just line up with the centre marks 'crosshair' on the jig face.
@PhilEdwardsCarpenter
@PhilEdwardsCarpenter Год назад
When I chop the corners of the faceplate, I insert the faceplate and centre drill the holes for the screws. While it's in place I draw the outline of the square latch hole and that's my guide for the 25mm bit 👍

That’s a nice jig. But if the door has a 2 degree bevel it’s not going to sit perfectly on the door.
