In the previous video, I showed how to sew together neckties into a long piece of patchwork fabric, using a technique called “strip quilting” (watch that process here: • Strip Quilting with Ne... ). In this video, I show how to convert that colorful pieced fabric into an artistic poncho.
This is an in-depth, step-by-step video that details the creative process I use when forming this kind of wearable art. I talk about why and how I make changes and additions to the garment. (Update: the poncho shown in this video has SOLD.)

Wow, I really like how you explain your creative process, and not just give instructions on how to do something! It gives a very cool insight on how working with scraps of fabric actually is :)

It's very creative and inspiring. I think it works. My only suggestion is for the a lining but it's optional because it's not really noticeable.

Hi Francis, Thanks for your message. Although I neglected to show this in the video, as it is, the poncho is reversible. In addition to spinning it around for different looks, it can also be worn inside out for a whole new set of styles. A lightweight silky lining is an interesting idea. It's possible that the extra layer might change the drape a bit. I have found that to be true when working with fabrics heavier than neckties, or when I've used a French seam construction instead of the lapping. Not necessarily wrong/bad - the different approaches just create different effects. If you prefer a lining, I'd definitely give it a try and see if the look and feel suit your personal tastes. Thanks for watching! Nancy

Hi Nancy I’m sorry to say I thought it was the wrong way round, it is however very creative, and it’s given me some great ideas, so thank you. I love your style of presentation. Best wishes from Scotland.

Haha - well, it is reversible, so that's always an option! I tried making a poncho with finished seams once. It had a cleaner look, but the drape was affected - it was a bit more structured / rigid. (The construction time was also quite a bit longer.) Using lapped seams allows the poncho to hang more softly on the body. Thanks for watching. Have fun experimenting! Nancy
