Regularly Im told that I talk too much in the videos. They are meant to be educational jewellery making guides so I thought the more information I pack in to them the better. Apparentely not....
So heres a video with no talking at all! You can see every step of a pear shape collet being made but that is all.
If I had spoken you would of learned about why I was making it the way I was, different ways it could be made, different claw designs, their positions and soldering them on. Cuts of gemstones and how they effect claw angles which need to be considered for a collets design and probably something about how I went to hopital last week to get 1cm of saw blade cut out of my finger.

Check out the new Diamond Mounter side channel!
Its called 'Diamond Mounter Clips'
Its compiled of short clips taken from previous videos to
highlight useful techniques and information I was teaching.
No intros, no outros just straight to the essence of what
was useful in the video!
Please check it out and click like then subscribe!
Calling for new patrons!
With patrons support I will be able to offer far more information than I am currently able to.
With nearly 25 years of knowledge gained in the jewellery trade working with some of the best diamond mounters in the UK I can train practitioners of jewellery making, up to and far beyond the skill level usually found in High Street jewellers workshops.
Become a classic patron and you will not only be able to view part 2 of full instructional guides but also be thanked personally on the next youtube upload! You will also have access to all future uploads 2 weeks before they go live on youtube.
Official patrons have all the benefits of a classic patron but also gain access to regular exclusive content. Behind the scenes, personal jewellery projects Im working on, I share ideas for future videos, photos and stories from throughout my career as a professional jeweller.
Also Official patrons are welcome to suggest ideas for future videos and contact me anytime if they need advice for their own jewellery making endeavors.
Classic patronage is just £5 a month and to become an Official patron costs only £10 a month making Diamond Mounter patronage by far the best value way to gain access to online jewellery making courses.
As the number of full instructional guides continues to grow the value will be even more considerable.
www.patreon.com/join/5278612?
There is now an entry level tier which costs just £1 a month.
Its named the Supporter tier which allows you to support the channel with out any substantial financial obligation. I will thank you personally on the next Diamond Mounter video uploaded.
My ambition is to share what I have learned throughout my career to as many people as possible.
My vehicle to do this is the Diamond Mounter RU-vid channel.
If you appreciate the video content and find the information useful then why not become a patron and support its growth!

What I find in this vid is no educational narration here Chris. The vid is well done but leaves so many questions out there for "new to the art" subbers! To hell with the NAYSAYERS! I'm gonna post this to our great group, Inspiring Metalsmiths Jewelry, where, I think you will find a lot of support for speech for explaining the process as you go!

I hope this was a tongue in cheek poke back at the critics. Chris you are high up in the list of best jewellery instructors on you tube. Every video of yours that I watch delivers a wealth of information on several levels. Watching your hands, the position and the grip helps me to mimic and improve. Your description of the task and the difficulties are invaluable. Lastly every anecdote or aside is worth inclusion as instructional value or comic effect. I say well done and thanks. Please ignore the criticism of talking too much, those clowns either can switch off, or turn the volume down! Lastly an open question, do any of these critics actually have any on line output that allows them to demonstrate any video teaching technique at all, let alone a better technique. Keep up the good work man. I like your work.

Awww Chris mate i love hearing your golden words of jewellery wisdom that you choose to share with us on you-tube. Maybe the ungrateful a-holes who don't should just turn the volume down? I've only recently found your channel and wish i'd found it a lot sooner. Please ignore the ungrateful NUMPTY's that are complaining.

Good for you mate. How about people appreciate what you are offering rather than complain about something. 'Too much talk'. What a direct comment. Speaks volumes of the person. Perhaps all your videos should be only accessible by payment. This sense of entitlement people have and the complete confidence is criticising from behind a screen is woeful. Those details you provide, and reasons for doing something a particular way are valuable, and the stories show you are human. How bout you blacklist anyone who makes simple direct and judgemental comments and let them find someone who offers the same level of detail you do. I'm a teacher, and also have been criticised for too much talk. Limit it and then others complain. I think your vid proved it's point. For those criticising, don't ask questions now (e.g. material thickness, how stone should sit on collet before blocking etc). Do a demo on setting fancy shapes (specifically with points e.g.. princess cut, baguettes, heart, pear, marquee etc) and be sure to turn the camera away during vital prep prior to setting (you know what I'm referring to), then watch the complaints roll on over broken stones during setting. It saddens me how a whole generation complain about something they are getting for free, a sense of entitlement, and that their voice is louder than everyone's. I applaud you for your videos, and for this latest one inparticular. Sometimes saying nothing in response to those complainers is stronger than saying a lot.

I think the video is great with the talking and explanation. It helps to make it understandable I only imagine it's not cool for someone who doesn't speak English as you could imagine. Your talking points are always informative and casual. I enjoy letting the videos run while I’m at the bench. Today, however, I stopped and actually watched because there was no narrative telling me what you were doing, only the visual to follow. It was like sitting at my own bench, doing each step carefully and completely, checking for fit and accuracy at every point. It was valuable to have to watch closely, actually paying attention, so I could catch each detail. Valuable lesson, but I do like hearing you. 🙂

The whole premise of your channel is to teach, you even say that in your intro, that these are "instructional videos". These people complaining about you talking too much, will never learn anything in life, because if they can't sit through 15min of instruction, with tips and tricks from real experience, then they obviously are not even open to learn. Channels like yours are few and far between. There are many other channels that just show the process, with no explanation, and those channels have their value. But finding channels where someone is willing to talk through the thought process, share tips and tricks that are only learned through hands on experience, address questions, etc, that's rare. You can't please everyone. The complainers can grow up and use the mute button, or find another channel. No one is forcing their hand. Keep up the great content and the great instruction, and passing on of the craft! You're appreciated!!!

People can be real idiots. The knowledge in this particular video is very hard to come by. I know, having scoured the web a few years ago for it, and wound up paying $25 for a downloaded tutorial, the only lesson on this setting I could find. It helped, but everyone has their own ways, and I would have valued anything you had to **SAY** about it, you being only the 2nd source I've ever seen, and you also bring generous to share this knowledge freely! Hahaha great video Chris.. What a slap in the face for the trolls. But man, u will have to do this video again with all your commentary and tips bcoz that's what I know the vast majority love about your channel and why we subscribed an follow in the first place and now we lost out on a pear shaped collet instructional, without any instructions thanks to a few lonely ole Trolls! 😔 I really hope u pay no attention to the chatter of a few numb skulls, an readi. The comments u can see how many of us appreciate your tips an knowledge of the business.! I for one thank u once again and hope normal vids return soon. ALL THE BEST CHRIS🍀✌🏼 Ps z with all the cristism about talkin too much, not one person gave u a thumbs down an i noticed this in most of your vids! Just sayin lol. Please come back! 🙏

And, what a shock, people on the Internet have been moaning about something again. I quite like the chatter xx. Enjoy the vids either way.

Dear Chris, When it comes to progress i.e. learning you'll experience people that refuse to listen because they are not willing to grow and flourish. You may ask why? They normally want to hide behind a wall of resistance known as stubbornness: hence, refusing to move forward. Nonetheless, the day may come when they admit that they haven't got the foggiest idea of how to do something and they approach you with open ears asking for your help. On the other hand those that are eager to learn and value the wise words of wisdom that a professional with exquisitely honed skills can provide eagerly await each word of expertise. The question that I ponder is, which group are you aiming to enlighten? Take care, Rebecca
