How to Bezel Set Pear Shaped Faceted Gemstones - Bezel setting faceted stones with sharp corners drives a lot of metalsmiths crazy. Don't worry, it won't be a problem anymore. I will show you every detail about how to bezel set faceted stones beautifully with minimal cleanup. This bezel setting for faceted gemstones technique is exactly the same whether goldsmithing or silversmithing.
To understand the history of gold granulation at our studio: The founder of Jewelry Arts Inc, Robert Kulicke, was fascinated by granulation and other ancient goldsmithing arts like Byzantine enameling and was determined to learn the processes. Starting in the late 1950s, he experimented and drew other like-minded individuals to work together in his home studio. It took Bob and his then wife Jean Stark 24 years to understand and be able to teach granulation in 22k gold and silver. Teaching jewelry making techniques was something Bob was particularly passionate about. He felt that keeping secrets in art was wrong, and he was determined to teach 22k gold granulation and the other jewelry making skills he mastered to all comers from his jewelry studio, which began formally in 1974 in New York City and still continues today as Jewelry Arts Inc. Bob’s students taught others and Jewelry Arts itself has continued to teach generations of students who, in turn, teach others. All modern gold and silver granulation in America can be traced back to Robert Kulicke, who believed art in the form of goldsmithing and silversmithing was for the betterment of us all. We continue today in the spirit of exploration, adding new jewelry making skills and new school projects constantly. Jewelry Arts specializes in one-one instruction, with a team-teaching approach that results in a student-teacher ratio of 4 to 6 to 1. All instructors are highly trained and experienced goldsmiths, silversmiths, jewelers, and teachers. Instructors work with jewelry students at each step of production and are thoroughly equipped to discuss and demonstrate techniques and help solve problems encountered by goldsmithing or silversmithing students at all levels.

You made so much sense with everything you were saying, I just tried making a bezel for the first time and the wall looked like it was ran over with a F****** tractor because I though I was supposed to start with the bottom of the bezel wall and my gut was telling me that makes no sense I’m gonna have a crap ton of marks all over it and low and behold I did!!!! 😢 thank you so much for this I’m going to do it this way and never look back, a million thank yous, Namaste 🙏 😅

You want the table above the bezel as well because when us gemologist test it we like to be able to test that table facet.

Gotcha! We wouldn’t want to hide too much of our stone for either situation. 😃

How come you add a silver bezel and back plate and not do it in gold ? I enjoy your u-tubes. thank you

Glad you are enjoying the videos! Although you can make your inner bezel in gold, no one ever sees it so it is more economical to use silver. The shiny silver backsheet is meant to reflect light back through the stone and silver does that better than gold for most color stones. :)

Hey Jeanette! How are you finishing the edge round your granulation? Chens & the blue handle file? Thank you!
@JewelryArts
@JewelryArts 2 месяца назад
Chens to trim and blue handle file but you might want to use a needle file for any of the small areas. :)

Fab! If you have a stone with several points such as a kite shape etc. do you start with the sharpest point first?
