Quick and easy. Love how simple it was, and I can only imagine the amount of noise it cuts down as well.

As usual I love the videos you make. That would be a great project to do with our air and I’m very interested about the noise decrease you speak of. Ours is so loud but the only issue may be where we need to have it open for maintenance faces the house. Still worth a try !!!! Hope you guys get good news at your next appointment 👍

Thank you so much, we issue with the AC needing to be serviced on the side facing the house or where you will be you can make a removable panel that was slide in and out! Just a suggestion either way thanks again for all your kind words I appreciate it

I thought you have to have a minimum of 12" around AC unit for airflow
@AGlimpseInside
@AGlimpseInside 4 года назад
Yes 12 inches is the standard if you’re going to use cinder block or something without any ventilation flats at all. Because this is slotted. Mine is about 10 inches all the way around. Should be fine
@Lightedbeam
@Lightedbeam 4 года назад
@@AGlimpseInside Sorry but It is not slotted enough. It would need 1-inch open slots between each board if it is closer than 12 inches. Please understand when you go against the rules of cooling you end up paying for it in one way or another. Sure you can make it quieter, look good too. But at a cost. At 12 inches you can certainly enclose one like this above. These folk who block the noise or the air in any way, cause the unit to work harder, longer and cost more than it would if it had free-flowing air form each side. Why bend the rules without doing the research. And then publicly tell someone it is okay. The hotter the day is the longer it takes to cool the refrigerant. Why would someone add to this issue? Nice looking barrier though.

Actually a buddy of mine the other day we both lifted the entire privacy fence up and out of the ground. And were able to put it back right in the holes in which the spikes were initially. So to answer your question yes. I was worried about that that’s why we tried that. Thanks for the concern and thanks for watching I appreciate it

Great video Chris, unfortunately that is of no use to me as i live in ENG as you know, and our weather is usually crap, apart from a heatwave about 3 weeks ago ha ha ha. Does your babs suffer from epilepsy? just politely asking because of the helmet? Take Care my Friend and keep up these great videos that you are doing. Cheers. Barry (ENG)

Barry Roberts hey Barry good to hear from you. It’s no trouble asking about the helmet. We have a neurological appointment coming up next week where we hope we will get some answers. As for the helmet he has torticollis and a misshapen head. The helmet was prescribed to help fix those issues. As for epilepsy, our 11-year-old has it and we do worry that this little one does too! It’s no bother asking and very much thank you for the concern

Thanks for the reply Chris, sorry to hear about the kids. Fingers crossed all goes well with the appointment and also sorry for the intrusive question as well. My daughter is 24 and we only found out last year that she has Autism, which explains a few things that happened when she was at school and college. Take Care Chris and Regards to the family. Congrats, you just made that AC less efficient and shortened it's life. Now, when there's a cross breeze that would of hit the sides of the AC (which would of helped with the heat transfer/cooling of the inner coils and fins), that fence is now blocking/interfering with wind flow... but I can see that you corrected this error in a later video.

As an ex-A/C Tech who ran 4 to 7 calls daily for years...This is something you might want to consider, not doing. At least not using a barrier that has no way to get air through. Perhaps if it has sizeable slots like around an inch for each board it would be fine. But... Sorry but this does not appear to have large enough areas between boards. It would need 1-inch open slots between each board if it's any closer than 12 inches. It's all about heat transfer. Even a small amount of difference can cost you more cash seasonally. If you're willing to pay more, then yes, you can put black shingles on your Arizona house.

And the coils also need to be rinsed off from dirt and debris that it collects. The fence that everyone is building around their units need to be easily removed in order to clean them.
@markf.4063
@markf.4063 5 лет назад
As a HVAC/R tech I cannot express how bad of an idea this is. That condensing unit needs as much air flow as it can get and by fencing in it the way you did you will starve that thing for air. This in turn will cause your head pressure to go up which will prevent the unit from operating (i.e. cooling) up to it's designed capacity and struggle, if not down right fail, to cool your house to the desired temp. The hotter outside the more noticeable this will be. Also, this is going to reduce the amount of cooling being brought back to your unit. It will run hotter, pull more amps and eventually self destruct. These units are designed with a certain amount of open space around them.

Mark F. Hey Mark I appreciate your concern. After I did this I did worry about that. I got my air-conditioner professional to look at it and he said there was plenty of room. Maybe that was a ploy to get me to need more service I don’t know. Either way I appreciate the knowledge. Thanks again
@markf.4063
@markf.4063 5 лет назад
@@AGlimpseInside No offense but I'd have a hard time believing any tech that would sign off on that. Did he hook his gauges up to it? Did he check the superheat/subcooling because that is the only true way to know. What was the ambient temp? The manual for these units state a specific amount of unobstructed area around these units. Not to mention that that style of Goodman is prone to high head pressures in the first place. I've removed several of these so called screens over the years because of the inherent issues they create....and those were mostly made of lattice. And as an FYI, it pisses us off when people do stuff like this and most will end up with a higher bill because of it. At the very least I would add a disclaimer to inform anyone that is going to do this.

Also a 20 year service tech.... bad idea nice execution but not a good idea! You will shorten the life off your compressor! However I have seen worse!

10 year Process Operator and I can even tell you this is a bad idea. Anytime you take air flow away from a piece of machinery is a bad idea. If anything you should of just made 1 wall in front of it.

@@bigbrad4087 Hi Brad I wanted to make a sound barrier for my Heat pump. I want to build this and I want to make it 6 feet high and only leave one side open. Would you be able to tell me about how many I need to leave between the heat pump and the wall to allow the heat pump to operate properly? David

this video needs to be deleted. you're going to destroy your condenser this way. needs to have proper airflow as suggested in the manual. you can see this in hundreds of comments below. I see you have a new video which is a little better. you should do proper air flow comparisons before and after to show that your new video solution has no restrictions.
