In this video I show you how after some testing iv come up with a method to make to the hoops for a hoop house from pvc pipe without connectors which makes it stronger and cheaper to build.

good idea! you could also just buy long enough pipes, but i guess if you really need something bigger than 20ft arches, this is a good idea

How do you secure the pipes into the ground?

What if you use the heat gun to form your hoops rather than bending the pvc?

Nice job - where abouts in uk are you? Also is this waste pipe - could you do the same with 20mm pvc white conduit?

Thanks we are near Birmingham and its 32mm solvent weld pipe. 20mm would be too thin I'd imagine you would need alot more internal wood supports 👍

Has this held up after 2 years? Over here in Canada, a pipe costs approx 10$ for a 10 ft (3m) length, and I can get fittings for 0.50-1.50$. Seems like if something was going to break, I would WANT the fittings to break - much cheaper/faster to replace and less need to fiddle around with the covering, compared to having to remove an entire melted/deformed length of pipe (and whatever it used to connect to, on both ends)! Also, what size of pipe were you using?

Iv taken them down now as iv built a proper livestock house, but I would sat just buy the steel tubes instead defo won't put up with Canada weather without alot more wood support inside

@@FieldtoFarm_UK thanks so much for the reply and tip! I'm looking to build my own custom greenhouse since my beds are non-standard size, and this has been very helpful for planning! I'll be building something that has semi-permanent detachable parts so I can take it down during the middle of summer and heavy winter... I do agree metal would really be better if only I could afford it !

I'm not all in with the joining method. There are enough people who aren't skilled enough to take on the heated joints for want of a $0.50 coupling. Don't let him tell you they aren't as strong either.
@FieldtoFarm_UK
@FieldtoFarm_UK 3 года назад
ur wrong on both fronts the couplings/ joiners are £2.30 each almost half the pipe cost and they are defo weaker than the pipe as they are made from 2 separately molded pieces joined together which creates a weak spot along the edges of the join and pipe is a single cast so no weak areas.

@@FieldtoFarm_UK Your plumbing supplies must be very different from the U.S. then. Our couplings would be the strongest part of two pieces of pipe joined together. I didn't mean to misspeak of what you have there..

This sort of pipe is only used for sink or shower waste water at low pressure usually here so is thinner than US pipe or so iv read

@@FieldtoFarm_UK Ah, there's the difference. We have thin wall drain pipe too. I didn't realize that's what you were using.
