The Oak Slab top Desk is coming along. this week we are working on the joinery of the base structure. there will be 6 mortise and tenon joints to cut as well as Ripping and cutting all the stock to length.

Have you decided how you will be attaching the top to the base yet? Also I wanted to add that I’ve been watching your videos for sometime now and I have learned so much. You have been instrumental in furthering my own progress with woodworking. In this case it'll be held in place by gravity. There will be a few pins going from the base up into the top to keep it from sliding side to side and front and back but gravity will hold it down fine as it is almost 200 lb.

Most importantly I have a very similar cabinet with a very similar magnetic dish in a very similar place but mine has a three foot rule trapped under it. Try to keep up. Love the big joinery thanks for the vids.

Thanks. I'm hoping to complete the chisel test sometime in early April but we will see. It is a very long and tedious process.

Have you had any issues with repetitive stress injuries James? I did a bunch of rip sawing almost 2 months ago and I got a pretty painful case of, what I think is tennis elbow which has really limited my woodworking since :(

I've not had a problem with that. But I usually stop every 5 to 10 minutes and go do something else and then come back from there 5 to 10 minutes. Breaks up the monotony

Nice to see you’ve got the safety clogs on. I’d be concerned about dropping a chisel when cleaning up the mortise in the vise.

Newbie here. When is a two-sided tenon desirable, and when is a four-sided tenon desirable?

Most of the time it says personal preference. A two-sided tenon is a bit faster to make but it is harder to hide the edge if you don't have a perfectly tight fit. A four-sided tenon allows you to hide any mistakes or any gaps around the mortise. But it's a bit harder to make. So in the end it just turns into a personal preference from case to case. In this particular case the reason I used a four-sided tenon on the second one is that the board it was going into is the exact same width and on the first one the board it was going into was much wider so I could use a full width tenon

I don't know where you live but a good outdoor freeze will serve you well.(3 days +). There are borax based treatments also readily available.

That is not a fun one. The two methods I know of that work every time are number one freezing it for a couple days or two submerging it in water for several days. If you have access to a large enough vacuum chamber you can use that as well. I know some people have had good luck with borax but I've never had a chance to try that.
