Thank you, after working my life time in steel and industrial piping I finally decided at 75 to retire and take up wood working as a total beginner and needed to miter some short table legs for a small bedside table with limited tools. Your video was just the fit for me and enjoyed your presentation.

This seems like a superior approach to make a jointing jig too, just square the settings. Great work!

Big thanks for the information and good presentation. A number of years ago, I used one of those two-part taper jigs, and as I was using it, I said to myself: "Dang, this seems very dangerous." But I went ahead and finished the job. Then, just the other day, I had to use it again. I had the same reservations about using it. So, I didn't. I then went online to see what options were out there. The basic idea you have is reasonably common, but your presentation was very easy to follow. Plus, I had all the parts already - I didn't have to buy one thing (except for a 4' T-bar that I was saving for another project, but that's another story). I did make two changes from your approach: 1) I did not drill two holes and remove everything in between as you did for the top angle piece. I did that on my router table in three passes of different heights. In addition, I placed the groove for the T-bar by the same technique (start about four inches in, and run along to the other four inches in). Much easier. The second variation I did was to add a miter guide. I felt that relying upon the fence is problematic because the fence can be off a tad here or a tad there. After a while, the edge has drifted around to become meaningless as a guide. Using a miter guide completely limits this drift. Again thanks!

Fantastic video. This requires more hardware than other builds but doesn’t require a router table. I don’t have a router table , making those other builds very difficult. Thank you

If I have a smaller table saw like the DeWalt with the 8 and 1/4-in blade does the length change and/or the width? Also do the other dimensions change as far as the slotted grooves you cut for the fence?
@WalkersWoodworks

I don't see why they would.

Thanks for the video, if i may i have 1 suggestion, since you are cutting dado (groove) in the center of the narrower board, you could flip the board 180° and make 2 cuts before adjusting the table saw fence until the cuts "meet" in the center

The 5-star handle you've recommended in your parts list. Is that meant to be the quick release version?

Would you suggest adding a piece to run down the miter slot?
@daleoderkirk8174
@daleoderkirk8174 2 года назад
From a safety perspective, believe you should have had a guard on your grinder. Liked the unit, but would add a track on the bottom to slide on saw miter slot, i.e. no need to use saw fence.
@WalkersWoodworks
@WalkersWoodworks 2 года назад
However not having the track makes it where you can move the fence over and cut wider stock. 👍

I assume this will work with four sided tapers like on table legs. What if you were to use 2x2 for the adjustable part? Should not make any difference and better for table legs.
@WalkersWoodworks
@WalkersWoodworks 4 года назад
Yea I don't see why it wouldn't. 🤷‍♂️

The Rockler jig also seems to have an angle guide. I am making this because I don't have the money for the Rockler. But an angle guide would be nice
@brucejohnson1264
@brucejohnson1264 4 года назад
I would shorten the T-track an inch or so to ensure you don't clip it with the table saw blade. I have a sawstop too, and I wouldn't want to accidentally trigger it.
@WalkersWoodworks
@WalkersWoodworks 4 года назад
That's why I inset it a little lol.
