In this woodworking jig video I'll show you how to make a DIY table saw taper jig for long cuts. You can also use this jig as a table saw jointer jig (edge jointing jig) or straight line jig. But first I'll discuss whether you should make your own or build one. For me it made sense to make a DIY jig because it saved money and also had more capability. This is an upgrade over the more expensive one I could have purchased. It's heavier duty and I can also use this jig for much larger work pieces.
I'll walk through all the steps to cut all the pieces using my DeWalt table saw and Kobalt miter saw. Then I'll assemble and test my new taper jig/joinery sled. I also used Powertec t-track and I cut the dado slots with my Ridgid trim router.
I love making new woodworking jigs for my DeWalt DWE7491 table saw and I have more in the works!

This is a must have table saw jig and can be used for tapers or straight line cuts on rough sawn lumber. Drop me a comment and let me know what other features you would put on yours.

I’m making this one for sure. The easiest and most sensible homemade taper jig I’ve seen to date and trust me I’ve been comparing. Bravo!!!

Definitely on my list to make. I think I would mostly use it for tapered table legs. Great build and instructional.

Watched all the watch through, nice job! I have this jig and was thinking about doing a video a couple months back, great minds think alike. Jigs make it so much easier for us builders, along with increasing accuracy and efficiency!

It looks like this could double as a edge jointing jig or if you needed to put a straight edge on a live edge board. Very cool.

It’s a game changer making cutting tapered cut or making a straight edge a breeze so you can flip it over and have two straight edges only using a table saw. 👍🏼

Nice job sir. Ever think about adding a stationary board in the other miter slot to create a kind of zero clearance? Just something I thought of watching you cut 👍
@HowIDoThingsDIY
@HowIDoThingsDIY 3 года назад
That's an interesting idea! I could but to be honest, with the one side fully supported it left a very clean cut. Thanks!

Hi an excellent presentation. I noticed there were almost any saw dust when you were working with table saw. Is it because of your Dewalt saw extractor? If so , it almost captures 90%. Would you agree with 90% , if not what would you rate it ? Could you post the model number of your saw extractor ? Can I use 6RPM ridgid shop vac instead. I would really appreciate your feedback. What is the length of your jig ?
@HowIDoThingsDIY
@HowIDoThingsDIY 7 месяцев назад
Sure! Here is the dust extractor amzn.to/3Rl4KkN. Yes, in this video, it was reducing dust by maybe 85%. I've also noticed that the type of blade I used makes a difference. Aldo zero clearance insert helps a little. The red one I use is a combination blade, and the silver one is for ripping. I don't remember which one I used in this video. I'm pretty sure I made the jig 48" long. I have plans on my website if you're interested. howidothingsdiy.com/plans/ols/products/table-saw-taperingjointing-jig. Let me know if you have other questions.

Why not let the jig run against the table saw fence? Seems it would be easier and more accurate that way. Also it would be possibe to cut wider boards.
@HowIDoThingsDIY
@HowIDoThingsDIY 11 месяцев назад
That is another way to go. There would be pros and cons to both. I actually like having the guide rail instead of having to think about keeping it tight against the fence while cutting.

Can the toggle clamps you use handle a 1-1/2” thick board (e.g. a 2x4). I need to make one of these.
@HowIDoThingsDIY
@HowIDoThingsDIY 3 года назад
I have them adjusted almost all the way down for 3/4" board. Haven't tried 1 1/2 but you could add a spacer.

My gosh there has got to be a better way to secure the t tracks in rather than grinding down the points of the screws and the underside nice and smooth…could you just use ca glue ? Shorter screw? Thicker plywood base?…..thanks ,,still love the overall design
@HowIDoThingsDIY
@HowIDoThingsDIY 2 года назад
Haha, yes, for sure. Use a little shorter screws. I was just working with what I had. I wanted to show my mistake and show how I corrected it. Thanks for watching!

Thanks! Ya, I should have maybe done that on the table saw. At that point, I had just gotten it, and my brain wasn't thinking table saw yet. If I were to make this again, I probably wouldn't have gotten the miter saw out. Haha
