Nice! There are lots of ways to skin that cat. I've made several, usually with pats on hand or found in the junkyard. The best one I ever made for deburring parts used 2 rollers and bearings that were wringers on a washing machine from the junkyard. The rollers were mounted on a flat angle iron frame far enough apart one could be used to mount a pulley with a bearing in the hub to act as a third pulley and countershaft in a speed reduction drive. It used a 120 VAC motor and tire to tumble the parts. We tumbled wet with gravel from the driveway. If rust is a problem, add a water-based cutting fluid or a weak lye solution. You may need a guard to keep the tire from walking off the rollers. I have also made them from nothing but PVC pipe using O-rings on the large tumbling tube as drive bands.

I made several tumblers for metal parts. I find that if the tumbler runs slower, it does a better job. You want the items to tumble, not drop and fall. Some baffles inside the drum helps. I fastened some vinyl siding J channel on the inside.

Thank you very much! I wanted a sheetmetal brake for years. First I was looking for a 50 year old model, but they were still 2-3000€. Most of them are also not segmented. Then I ordered one from Poland, but they were very unreliable, so ai stopped the order. Then I found a German company who has them made in China, but the quality is awesome.

Nice video & design! I made mine from feed rollers of an old jet printer. Also performs well & even less work. I use a GatorAid type quart jar for small quantities; the non-smooth grips on outside of jar tumble the media more than plain container. I can barely put a one or two gallon wide mouth plastic jar on it too. If the large jar has a formed grip handle, it really throws the parts & media around inside. The contents can’t just slide around smooth interior. My little printer rollers are at their limit with large jar & it sometimes gets kicked off by the vigorous tumbling of contents. This size would work even better! Irregular shape container would tumble way more too.
@MaxMakerChannel
@MaxMakerChannel 3 года назад
I also had the fear that the media would only slid, but the media is heavy and rough enough that it diggs into the container a little bit and creates enough friction to stick to the wall and not slide.

Moin. (ZB TORMEK). könnte sich also Lohnen. Auf jeden Fall gibts ein Abo!

Just a couple thoughts on acquiring decent bearings and-or wheels and something about a convenient driver system for wet projects. I built a large (110 gallon volume) air pressure driven continuous threw-put rotary reel spray washer for washing vegetables many years ago. I found the castor type wheels with good bearings were a bit expensive, for what you got. I did try to use salvaged castor type wheels at first, but because of the weights and speeds involved, they failed fairly quickly because they had a surface to surface oil lubed unsealed bearing system, like we see here. The solution I came up with was to use replacement wheels for push "scooters' (the type for kids). They are relatively cheap, readily available and have decent quality sealed bearings. You can buy the bearings separately, if that is all you need. For smaller projects, replacement wheels for skateboards have the about the same quality sealed bearings. Of course you have to build mounts but that is not much of a problem. The articulated hinge mounts I built for my project had adjustable spring tensioners to help compensate for defects in the curvature of the drum which does cause some harmonic vibration at higher speeds. My washer threw-put many thousands of pounds of vegetables with no failure of these type of bearings. Driver system: Because I needed a rotational speed adjustable driver which could safely operate in a continuously wet environment, I came up with the solution of using a belt system driven by a cheap (budget is king) air powered drill. The speed of the drill is easily adjustable based on the air pressure input. I did not calculate the operational cost of this system as I felt, at the time, any loses in driver efficiency was outweighed by the increase in operational safety. I hope this comment on my experience may help others move forward with their unique project.

What exactly is that white and red barrel from? I seen the same one in one of “The Oftler” loudest firework compilations. Judging by your European accent and The Oftler being from eastern Europe(eastern Germany to the baltics) I’m going to assume that is you can only buy it in europe: I’ve looked for the same one at Home Depot, Lowes,GNC(looked like a protein powder tub), grocery stores, and havnt found anything that resembles it. I also thought that “barrel” might be a polyethylene weed sprayer tank. I found a bunch of glass jars recently, 170 small dark brown skin care jars without lids; but the brand is etched(I think)into the glass. Sand paper sort of got it off but scuffs up the glass. So I’d like to sand it off and then etch the jar(s) in a home made rock tumbler. Having the glass etched will further block light along with it already being a dark brown clear glass. I found another 100 or clear glass jars in several shapes in a dumpster behind a marijuana dispensary . Almost all of them have lids. I come across chemicals, specimens, and small oddities that need to be stored and the best way is in glass jars in my lighted glass display cabinet. I’d like to make a rock tumbler for many things, but mostly to diffuse light through glass. Some glasses I might have to coat with a UV blocker. Here’s the same “barrel” in The Oftler’s video. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-yD-glZs3BEY.html

I don't want to count on others to take care of me or rely on anyone else. Responsibility and knowing what you're doing is up to the individual. Accidents happen it's part of life. @@mikehunt8375 Indeed! But the guy in the video has recognised the danger of that particular situation, and has done something about it. If the victim of the accident in my story had done the same thing, it would probably have saved his life. I was just attempting to draw attention to the danger by recounting a true story, and by giving a timestamp to what had been done in this case. I didn't work at the company where that accident happened, but I heard the story from a shocked employee who did, and it was a lesson to me. Maybe this comment will serve to spread the message.

I heavily disagree. German sewing machine oil is also called fine mechanic oil and it has great characteristics without any drawbacks. You must have used a different oil.

After more than 40 years of professional wiring....... White, green, black, and bare copper are your neutral/ground/negative..... Red, blue, yellow, brown, orange, pink, etc, etc, are your positive/live/hot/feed...... So yes, blue can be hot.

@@LordAndyvaile Wow! I'd wind up burning stuff down in the UK! I live on the east coast of the US In buildings/homes, white is neutral, green or bare is ground. Any other color can be hot/positive. In DC wiring, such as automotive, black usually is ground, once in awhile you'll find white as ground, but not often. The biggest nightmare I ever worked on with wiring........a older model Mack truck. It had a wiring fire in the cab. I easily found the cause and fixed that, but the harness had to be replaced. The issue was, the wiring was designed at the factory as positive ground!!!! OMG, took me 2 weeks to finally get it right.........hope I never run across 1 of those again.

That's a lot of work to avoid 15 minutes of filing the edges.

Think rock tumbler. I can build this that holds 3 times what a small tumbler holds and costs half the price.

I am going to finish it, just not soon. I have a giant commercial project on my desk at the moment and cannot work on anything else in the mean time. I really need to finish that. Should be done by September, then I can focus on the Hydrofoil again.

@@MaxMakerChannel cool! Yeah get your job done before the fun. I'm almost done with my 12S4P battery for my esk8, I hope to make a hydrofoil as well. I like that the propeller and foil can be 3d printed, It makes me very interested. The forums are great too.

I would rather spend 20 minutes filing than listen to a tumbler for 3 hours, i can understand using a finer gravel for rust removal but not a gravel for sharp edges
