It's the 3rd tutorial of the Learn to Sew Series! Today, we are sewing this adorable half apron! I love the length and the gathers and that it's a great beginner friendly sewing project. I have chosen this project next so that we can continue to practice cutting fabric, ironing and doing straight seams, but now were are adding gathers and a pocket.

Hey Melanie, I just started learning how to sew last Summer, so I have been watching all the RU-vid videos for tips and ideas! I’m a flight attendant on a regional aircraft so we sit right next to the passengers in the back of our aircraft. I actually sat next to your mom a couple of weeks ago working on a project and I was picking her brain lol she told me about your RU-vid channel and I told her if there’s a beginner tutorial of yours out there, I’m sure I’ve seen you lol Sure enough I had watched your beginner charm square blanket! Just wanted to share with you. Thanks for your content!

A little hint for when you put in gathers - try lowering the tension on your top thread a little (like you would for a buttonhole) and pulling on only the bobbin threads to gather up. It will pull up much more easily and, because you don't stress the threads so much to "slide the gathers along", you end up break the gathering threads much less often.

Great video Melanie! I love the gray fabric you used, is that a heavier weight? Also, when I gather it helps to loosen the thread tension, it's a bit easier to pull the threads out.

hiii just saying that if you focus on the line and not the needle by the time you notice its going the wrong direction its too late the needle is already stitched the thread in the fabric :)

I am new to sewing, can you explain why you stitch from the top rather then from the wrong side where it would be easier to see where the hem ends?

Why dose my needle in thread?? And how can I fix it
@jafallica
@jafallica 4 года назад
Miss Sue what does that mean?
@Smeeks4
@Smeeks4 4 года назад
The thread comes out of the needle almost every time I start to sew and I have to stop and rethread.
@AprilShowers560
@AprilShowers560 4 года назад
Miss Sue Is the thread actually breaking? That sounds like a tension issue. Reduce your tension and see if that helps.
@denisedorsey2889
@denisedorsey2889 4 года назад
I have had that happen if I don't have a long enough "tail". When you cut your thread after sewing , pull both threads a bit longer from the back before continuing to sew.
