How to Make an Easy Liner for Any Size Monotub

In this video I show you how to make an easy liner that will work for any monotub size.
0:18 Step 1 - Cut a piece of black plastic that is 2 to 3 inches wider than your tub.
1:01 Step 2 - Fold edges of black plastic in to make a crease on all four sides.
1:28 Step 3 - Unfold creases and fold the corner in like a triangle. Next fold the bottom part of the triangle in and tape the edge. Repeat for the other 3 sides.

Hi thank you. I just laid four tubs with this liner tek. Do you do anything to the liner when you fruit the tub or just leave it?

Just leave it. After I rehydrate sometimes I remove it.

I used to always use a liner but now as I have permeanant totes I decided to go with black vinyl and wrap the bottom and around 5" up the sides as I like to do a 3.5"...even 4" final depth to allow the spawn room to breathe and spread downwards establishing a kinda root system 🍄

apologies if I didn’t se this question already answered. Is the type of tape you use on the liner important? Regular scotch tape? Micropore tape? Electrical tape? Also, do you then need to sterilize the liner and tape before adding substrate?

I have a question in one of your other videos I think you had mentioned that you want the liner to be as tall as the substrate is. Is it okay if the liner is taller than the substrate in the bottom of the tub? If not how do I calculate how tall to make the liner? I'm making substrate for a 44 quart monotub.

Questions: can you grow cubensis with this method in beach weather conditions: 80 to 95F in the summer. Also, when you reproduced pass on the spores to agar, and also the tissue culture I didn't see you use a still box in a steryle environment? Why? Not necessary? Also, can I store the cultures in the fridge? Like I said, temps in the summer arebtoo high. Thanks! I will donate!

What happens as the cake shrinks after each flush?? It looks like the cake would slowly move away from the liner and create a perfect moist environment for pins to form???

an easier way is mist the sides with water and the plastic sticks to it. just fill it and trim the plastic along the substrate. put the filters on after

They are just plugs for the fist stage. Then you remove them and add polyfil for fruiting.

What happens if you don't use a liner in the tub? I went to shake a 75% colonized rye jar the other day forgetting it had a small crack,needless to say it broke and rye was everywhere. I scooped it up and hurried up and mixed up some CVG and threw it in without a liner.. Will this hinder anything?

It does not have to be perfect. You can also shape it to the bottom and go.

Yeah I usually go about 2 inches, but you can go deeper or shorter if you want. It is not a perfect science.

Hi Ashley I'm about to give the monotub tek a try for the 1st time. I ordered 2 sets of the 1inch plugs and filters😊 to use in 66 Qt. tub's. My question is, when using this method with the 2 inch flap, how much grain and how much substrate are you using per tub? I am going to use or am planning to use 3lb grain/5lb substrate. Do you think a 2 inch flap will be enough or should I go bigger? Or just how much do you use to get 2 inches lol. Thanks in advance!!! I'll tag you on insta in my posts😊✌

So that is for a 2” sub depth? I run 3.75”-5” sub depth so should I just measure out 3.75-5” out from all sides then continue with what you’re doing? Awesome way to make a liner btw!!

Ive been doing like a 3-4 inch border kinda... i use 26 inch by 19 inch for the whole sheet and then make the liner from there. You can make it bigger to make the edges taller.

@@BoomerShroomer ok good deal I use smaller tubs and have many of them all 20qt and a couple 30qt but I made some liners last night and they turned out alright the tubs I use have kind of a ridge on the inside under the handle so I’m guessing that’s why they fit funny but once filled with sub they should be fine.

The substrate shrinks as it colonizes. That would leave a gap around the edges for light to get in and you'll get side pins. With the liner inside, the substrate will pull it and help keep the side light hitting it

You can use any malleable thin plastic that will cling to the mycelium.

I have used a casing layer and it think it does well but I also have done it without. I would say if casing layer is not 100% needed then don’t. But there are some mushrooms they need a casing to grow.
