I'd be really careful posting these videos because it is against federal law what you are doing which is defacing and or destroying currency. And the fbi and treasury departments crack down hard on that. It wouldn't surprise me to hear that you end up getting a visit from the feds

Skyler this is the most straight forward explanation of the process for coin rings that I have seen on the net, I use the same steps however I've never teflon wrap as much as you,I guess I've been lucky.

Thank you for this video. It's been about 4 years since I've made any coin rings and I've just been reunited with my high school sweetheart. It's been 50 years since we were together, I just spent a week down in Kentucky where she lives, and we still feel the same as we did when we were teenagers. I showed her some of the rings I've made, and she was impressed, so I want to make her a ring for Christmas. Thanks again for your video.

You take it back to the ring stretcher after Swedish wrapping in order to make it the proper size like in my 3 examples that I gave.

I mean the pepetools stretcher is about 550$, you can pick up a set of 17° does for about 180$ from legacy coin ring tools that come with a coin punch, it’s not Siri but it’s still good. Then a 1 ton arbor press for about 50$, then the other miscellaneous tools for 60-100$ but there’s plenty of videos of how to do it on a budget

This tutorial is most beneficial to those who already make jewelry and have equipment. If you just want to make a ring for yourself, it’s not really worth setting up shop lol.

Would just letting the coin cool on its own and not quenching it help to avoid the possibility of cracks forming when starting the folding and sizing process ? Or Working the coin while its still warm be of any benefit or just stick to quench after annealing ?

You can pickle it in order to clean it if it’s silver or gold. Pepe tools sells bench basics smart pickle. That’s what I use.

It needs to get to a really barely noticeable red. That will tell you you made it up to temp. It’s best to do with the lights off.

It’s a soldering block. They help the heat stay in the coin as you are annealing.

Really like your video. I had a old dime. It looked blackish. I started rubbing aluminum foil onto dimes surface. Turned out to be a 1944 dime. Why did the aluminum foil clean up the black dime to shiny.?

You can use your stretcher but you need Jason’s smaller cone set in order to have it fit under the stretcher. Www.Jasons.works

I make silver ones so that usually isn’t an issue. If you want to make the Cooper ones, there is no reliable long term solution. I always recommend silver for that reason.

Awesome vid! We metal detect and have found hundreds of dollars of coins. I would love to supplement our hobby with ring making. 2 questions: 1) is there a starter kit you recommend? I have a 20-ton press and lots of tools. 2) do you think this process could work for shotgun backs (we call them headstamps). We find them everywhere in the woods. Thanks again!

So this is unrlated to coin ring making, but you seem to know your stuff. So here it goes, I'm going to try to resize my rng at home, i have a hard steel ring mandrel and a sizer, but should I anneal it first? It is tungsten with a rose gold core. Thanks, and nice videos

As long as they are not cast, you can treat them the same. They can also take more heat without worrying about melting them. The cast ones don’t work though. They just split when you try to bend them.
