I headed out with a few friends to do some surfcasting at low tide and we end up hitting a school of hungry gator blues #surfcasting #bluefish #longisland
should not be keeping blue fish there population is low D: NOAA says significantly below population. I have also heard (from a much less reliable source) that at the current rate blue fish will go extinct in 3 years.
Well this is why we follow rules, And abide by the limits set by the fishery. At one point you were not allowed to keep ANY weakfish and they made a huge comeback and now you are allowed to keep one. It is important to follow rules and regulations to keep populations healthy. I trust the experts and trust the limits they put in place.
@@CookingWithClams good points but still not worth keeping a fish that is not doing well when there are tasty fish with good population. When you show your self keeping a species that's not doing well to over a thousand people that is not good for the population because they will now go out and eat blue fish as well. Not mad but please be more careful about what you keep and who you show it to :D
@@gurufpv8444 I’m happy you said this. In my mind one fish was kept that day between the three of us which could have legally been 9, so I felt ok with it BUT I understand and appreciate your point. I try to get across being a conscientious fisherman but that can get lost sometimes. Thank you for leaving a thoughtful comment and not just attacking me. I appreciate it and will absolutely consider it with future videos
Hey thank you!! Everyone seems to want me back in key west but this is where I’m from and for me, I’m gonna spend as much time with my mom as I can. Love having her on the taste tests
@@CookingWithClams you need to spend as much time as you can with her. We wont have her around forever. Key west will be there when you're ready. She is a legend!🧡
“Momma clams!” That is too cool that you get to spend valuable time with your mom, it’s those memories that will last forever. Thanks for sharing Will!
Blues were always a blast to catch, but never liked eating them. Up here I eat flounder, stripper, weakfish and in the keys just about anything that swims.
I love my mom more than the air I breathe, and seeing you with your amazing mother makes the video that much better. I was ready for you to head back south but now I realize I will miss seeing videos with mom in them. My first fish I ever caught was at jetty park in cocoa beach FL and it was a blue fish I was 10 and camping with my little league BB team I thought I had a shark the way it faught..lol thanks for another great video and please be safe on your drive back... God bless!!!
Loved the cameo by the Canadians at the beginning!! I am always into a catch and cook. Mama Clams is always awesome as well! Keep up the vids! Can't wait to see that Coleman in action on the road trip!!! Cheers
Interesting fish, we don’t have it on the other side of the Atlantic (Sweden) and I like oilie fish so it’s right up my alley - nice meeting mama Clam 😘
Would have loved to have seen the one that got away…. I often braise pork or beef chunks in a spicy fresh salsa. I’ve never tried it with fish but I’m certainly going to now! The bluefish looked delicious. Love seeing you with your mother as well. Thanks for sharing.
I know it’s the age ol tale that the one that got away was bigger but the way this thing took drag, it was crazy . That fish and scenario will haunt me
Aloha. Quite the difference a month makes in bluefish size. Haven’t had one since I left Florida. The steaks are definitely old school, but great for grilling. Love Coleman, always have a dual fuel stove and lantern. Two products/same fuel and I never run out in the middle of something like cooking or night diving from the beach. Another great video.
Love the video.....ma is super too!!! I am sure there is no commentary influenced by personal relationship and love!!!! 😋 Good luck on the trip south!!! Tip: try to move through the DC/Metro area mid-day or overnight(better choice).....traffic is the worst!!!
Now thats a nice fish. And by the way I can't remember anything from the past week but I remember all my big fish misses. They keep replaying every once in a while. And the coleman is a steal. I collect those and the lanterns and there is plenty of parts and info on them. Good luck on the next adventure and thanks for the video.
@@CookingWithClams i would have felt the same way believe me. The good thing is that you might catch a bigger one next time. That looked like the proper spot though.
After losing 3 lures and a bunch of fish, I'd have probably gone home lol! Persistence paid off with that big blue. Great idea to add arugula to the mushrooms, bet it was tasty
That looks delicious. My mouth is watering. It's been a long time since I've had bluefish. I think tomato is key for those who find large bluefish too strong a flavor for their palate. Maybe its the acidity? It seems to reduce that objectionable aspect of the bloodline. My aunt used to bake the giant bluefish fillets with a thick topping (more than 1/4" high topping) made from diced onion and diced fresh tomato sautéed in a lot of butter (2 sticks, I think) followed by addition of seasoned breadcrumbs (likely supplemented with more seasoning). It was delicious.
You say on on the description of the video how to make bluefish taste amazing! But you make everything taste amazing!!! You should just say blue fish brought to you by Cookin with clams!! 🤤see ? Dang it now I’m hungry. Gotta go catch bluefish. See you later.!!! LOL
Nice bluefish/tailor/chopper and nice recipe. Love this fish smoked. I think what you called arugula we call rocket? Anyway very nice and your mum’s awesome 👍🏼
Hey Clams Master Will 👋😎👋, Hi Momma Clams 👋🤗👋, dude the start of your adventure was rough, but you managed to score the W on this, that was cool 😎, just thinking 🤔, maybe for the next time you cook that blue fish, score em, wrap em in foil add your seasonings to em and see how that out, also glad to see you upgraded your cooking appliances, one step at a time dude, as always stay safe, stay awesome out there 👋😎👋 #clamfam
nice vid Bluefish can be good , especially the first day of being caught btw could you tell me if I could park legally near taht beach, I recognize the area from google but I assumed that I would not be able to park, as I live in Queens can you tell me
I have! Makes some of the best dip. I also did a smoked hash Smoked Fish Hash Using Scraps ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-CAeLBs4hLZs.html
I’m a fishing guide out of Tarpon springs (west coast) and got into the blues while trout fishing and we kept a few that were 2-3lbs to do a catch and cook and I was surprised how nice the texture was, the color was a bit grey but we ended up blackening them and they were really good!
This video is cool. At my east Hampton restaurant job I was working with local Long Island blue fin, pickled ramps, olives, spicy sauce etc today. Bluefin tuna crudo is very tasty.
Congrats on that Blue... that's a whopper!!!! Not a bad day of fishing though.... is that a Rapala lure? Do you use them? if you have Face Book, you can see my biggest Bass I caught. 21 inches. last week. under ( Mike Torre ) how come you charred the tomato's then blended it? any difference?
