Great video, thank you. I'll put this to the troop and the leaders, and maybe get there Scouts to make some for fire lighting.

Great idea! The cotton rope is a game changer. It easily catches a spark and holds it for a long time. Great scout activity!

To use chared punk, leave it in your tinderbox, strike sparks into it, hold a wad of tinder and give it air. Once the tinder in your hand ignites, touch it to the tinder in your fire lay and give that some air.

Advantage of charcloth is the ability to stay lit in wind. A match can get blown out and small tender can get blown out but char cloth will maintain the fire until you get enough tender and small fuel for the fire. Even if I use a match or lighter I use char punk or cloth ,they are insurance to a good fire being produced. Char punkwood is especially good with a lighter.

If you don't have man-made material like cloth or rope, find some wood which has rotted and dried out. This is called 'punk'. It chars just fine.

Hi , thank you for your good video, how many minutes should the can be in the heat to prepare the char cloth?
@OSMEtv
@OSMEtv 5 месяцев назад
Once you put the can on the heat just watch the smoke coming from the vent hole. When that slows down the char cloth is done. It should only take a couple of minutes.

So, would you prefer to go with char-cloth (rope) or dryer lint in your survival fire starter kit?
@OSMEtv

Dryer lint will flame but for a short time. The cotton rope held a hot spark for about 3 minutes.

I don't bother to poke holes in Altoids tins of shoe polish cans. They are not water tight let alone gas tight. The smoke doesn't have any problem getting out.

Correct, the gas will find its way out of a container that's not watertight. Thanks!
