Chili was one of the 1st things my dad taught me to cook. I have his recipe written in his handwriting. We passed it out at his celebration of life so everyone had it to remember him by. It was his “secret” recipe.
Holy moly, i remember the first video uploads like yesterday. Forgot about the channel and now by grace of the algoritm i return to see Dad has amassed a whopping 4,3 MILLION subs. Proud of you Dad, keep going!
When I visited the States in the Fall/Winter, everyone seemed to be serving chili in their home. I told people that the chili takes like a hug. Now I know how to make Dad's chili. So now I can get a hug from Dad! Thank you!
I love my "Dad" time. I've been missing the older and longer videos. The ones with awkward silence and extra steps. I like all the "Dad" time I can get, even if it is watching hamburger fry. You are appreciated. PS: I vote for more long videos like this one!
I came to see some of your videos because in my house, apart from my mom, I'm the only person who can do the housework and thanks to your videos I was able to offer my mom and sister a gourmet dinner, thank you very much❤️
We cook onion and chopped celery first. Sometimes we add a can of corn, and a variety of beans. We do not drain the kidney beans, but do drain the others. Their juice adds so much good flavor.
A tip to stop the beans from sticking in the can(maybe a few might still stick) is before you open the can you hold it upside down and give it a few shakes it hard. Just up and down shakes so the force pulls them away from the bottom.
I love to add a tablespoon of unsweetened cocoa powder and a dash of cinnamon. Not sure if they are a traditional addition but I think it adds richness and depth. I love playing with recipes to make them your own
@@DadhowdoI im glad u make videos sometimes i gotta use Google as i dont know some ingrediënts in englisch to dutch but for the rest i have a great time cooking with ur videos Keep it up😁👍🏻
Dad, your chili seems to be very similar to the recipe my mom taught me, with one difference: we use tomato juice instead of beef broth! Chili is one of my favorite cold weather meals, and I love how easy it is to make. Yours looks delicious!
Hola, saludos desde Ecuador, quería pasar por aquí para felicitarte por el trabajo que realizas, tu historia será inspiración para mucho niños. Sigue adelante, God bless you. Me suscribo 😊
Awesome!! Thank you for saying to wash top of can!!!!!! Also soda cans and anything you drink out of lol i have issues with this. We love frito pie... now I'm going to make my own chili 😋 loved the secret ingredient. Great video, love the hat . You are appreciated so much.
I know how to make a chilli, and I could sit here and question some choices you made. But my father never taught me anything, and you got me brainstorming a avocado heavy chili, so that inspiration is something I hope a lot of kids take from you. ALSO! you should try corn in your chili, it's fantastic! You are doing good work, my friend, thank you.
This channel helped me with stuff, my dad and mom had a divorce when I was only 6, and this channel helps me remember the times I had with him before he died when I was 10.
Pro tip - don't use white sugar. Add a 1/2 of brown sugar - it makes a huge difference. Also, saute the onions and garlic before you add the meat. And add dark beer!
love how you actually clean your cans. my roomate is male and he has no concept of hygiene whatsoever, it's disgusting. i clean EVERY can before use and even rinse cups/dishes before use to ensure maximum cleanliness. I wanna add that with those canned beans it's optimal to put them in a colander and rinse with water to remove as much sodium as humanly possible.
My dad walked out when I was 4 me and my younger brother never really had much of a relationship with him, I was able to teach my brother how to shave because you showed me. Thank you
The chili looks great. I'm not much for beans, so I leave them out of mine, but I'll definitely have to try adding your secret ingredient. Anyway, I stumbled across this joke and thought I'd pass it along: I took an elevator to the eleventh floor, and as I got out, the elevator operator said "Have a good day, son." "Don't call me son," I said. "You're not my dad." He scratched his head, "No, but I brought you up, didn't I?" After I was done, I got back on the elevator to go back to the first floor. The same operator was there. I said nothing, and at the bottom, the operator said, "I'm sorry." "Oh, because you thought you were my dad?" I asked. He shakes his head. "No, son, because I let you down."
Great optional variations! For a richer version to serve when friends come over is to add 4-6 squares of dark chocolate (NOT 70%, just straight dark). You will love it, just don’t overdo it, try 4 and next time 5 etc but no more than 6.
I'm like to see the directions for cooking from scratch. To make the chili thicker, before adding all of the beans, separate some out and smash them. As the chili simmers the smashed beans really thicken the sauce without changing the flavor.
oooh i haven't had chili in sooo long! i highly recommend adding a bit of cinnamon, it adds a very nice depth to it :) my mom used to put a shot of cinnamon liquor in her chili but i don't drink alcohol so i just put in the regular stuff haha and we also put some corn into ours back in the day, i really like how versatile it is, i think everyone will find a chili version they enjoy ^^
