This is tooo much work. Just take your reclaimed clay when mixed and still wet, mix mason stain into it, dry on a plaster slab until wedgeable , then wedge…..
It depends on the amount of dried clay I am using and how saturated I want the color to be. In the video, I want to make a 7% purple slip so I used 100 gram of dried clay and 7 gram of stain. Sometimes, I make 15% or 3% stain depending on the color I want. It's best to test it after making your slip. Hope that helps!
I’ve bought some mason stains to do this with but then read that some of them aren’t good for using in the clay. I have no idea where to find this information at. Any ideas? Some mason stains can not be fires to midfire temps either.
Hi Michele! I got my mason stains from my local pottery shop. If you want to get mason stains just for pottery, I think your best bet is to check with pottery stores. Some stores do online shipping too. If you are not sure which stain to use, you can email or call them for more info. Happy potting!
It would be best without grog because the slip could become groggy. If you use the same clay as your pot it would be better as the shrinkage rate would be the same
@@YvonneCeramics i actually tested it and it works really fine ☺️ I'll just try to figure out how to have more vibrant colors, so far they're a little bit patel, I'll add more oxydes next Time.
I would use the same clay body to make the slip so the expansion rate is the same. I have used the coloured slip on the outside of a mug for decoration. If you want to stain the clay itself, I would wedge the mason stain into the clay.
