Sick of overpriced, soggy takeout? In this video, I will show you how to make restaurant-quality Beijing Beef at home for a fraction of the price! We use a secret tenderizing trick (baking soda) to turn budget-friendly beef cuts into crispy bites of heaven. Plus, our easy sauce recipe delivers that crave-worthy sweet, savory, and slightly spicy flavor.
Ingredients:
1 pound beef
1 tsp baking soda + 2 tbsp water
Marinade:
¼ tsp salt
1 egg
5 tbsp cornstarch
Sauce:
½ cup water
¼ cup sugar
3 tablespoons ketchup
6 tablespoons Hoisin sauce
1 tablespoon regular soy sauce
2 teaspoons oyster sauce
4 teaspoons Thai sweet chili sauce
2 tablespoons rice vinegar
1 teaspoons red peppers flakes (optional)
Other ingredients:
½ onion sliced
4 oz (115g) peppers
2 cloves garlic, minced (2 tsp)
1 teaspoon ginger, minced
4 cups canola oil for frying
Instructions:
Slice the beef and tenderize it with baking soda. Let it sit for 30 minutes, then rinse thoroughly with water. Combine salt, egg, and cornstarch with the beef, mixing well. Prepare the sauce by combining all ingredients and cooking until thickened, then set it aside. Heat oil to 425°F/218°C. Fry the beef until crispy, about 3 minutes. Sauté vegetables until caramelized, then add ginger, garlic, beef, and sauce. Mix everything well.
