Hi Orna, After a successful first attempt. Got a second batch in the oven at the moment. What a lekker (South African for good, amazing, brilliant etc.) recipe. Wow!!! That lady can bake! Going to check out all your other recipes. Thank you for sharing all your secrets. Best regards, Gary, Biggleswade, UK. Ex-Johannesburger. P.S. It would be selfish of me not to share your site.
Made Almond, Orange and Cranberry Crispy cookies for the first time in a high school food service class too many years ago to want to admit. Friday's were usually often for new cookie exchange day. It was meant for exchanging cookies that were new to those exchanging cookies. That is how I learned of this delicious tasting, delicious looking to the eyes, delicious smelling to the nose. Thanks for sharing such a wonderful recipe!
so the moment of testing..betae avon a friend teaches me to say....the chief taster says, "an mmmm?" I respond "practice makes perfect!" I am told, "Next time under closer supervision"...."Nice taste!" says she, "Yes!"....we agree and as the same friend taught me to say, "cool beans" bless you Purkin family and thank you..keep up the good work...10 out of 10 for great presentation...love the music

I like.... IU like sommer baie! I am technically center vision blind so cup measurements is a blessing for me. I co not look or listen to any recipe without a face so I love looking at your pretty face as well. Good job !
Yes! Almost the exact same ingredients but these are bars. I have a few Anzac biscuits recipes but have never actually made them. On my list of things to do!
Made a very big mess..you make it look so easy..my longsuffering and very dear wife came to the rescue and we anticipate a great outcome..thanks for your recipe, we've got our mouths set for crunchies, confident of giving a good report John
Hi Andy, they’re right! But don’t fret. Just line it with parchment paper with an overhang and then turn it out or lift it if you can onto a cutting board. Make sure to cool completely before removing so it doesn’t break. Lmk if that works!

Hi. It’s hard to say when it’s not my recipe. Maybe try mine and see if they stay crunchy? Make sure not to close them up until completely cool. Try a glass container not plastic. You can always pop them in a low oven for a few minutes to revive them. Good luck! Let me know what happens.
This type of cookie is both a blessing and a curse. As a South African I can confirm this is the best cookie, it's delicious, affordable and are in every store but the sad thing is that it is ALWAYS sold out😭 it's 9 at night and I'm baking these because I'm tired of not finding them💎😂
1 cup (227g) unsalted butter and 3 tablespoons (60g) syrup. Here’s the recipe: www.ornabakes.com/2012/10/crunchies-traditional-south-african-oatmeal-cookie-bars/
I don't know why only the Americans do not give metric measurements, the English and Australians always give both measurements like Farenheit and Celcius, Inches and cm, why do the Americans not consider that their videos are viewed internationally!!!!! And what's worse, Orna you are SOUTH AFRICAN, so come on, are you trying to be American?
Salt brings out the flavor. If you’re using salted butter you won’t need as much but without salt the flavors won’t pop. That applies to all baked goods 😊
