As a pastry chef grad, I would pipe the wet wax onto the candle so it looks like an actual cupcake! And I wouldn't top it. Unless I made cut out shapes with a thin layer of set wax.

I watched a video on here of a Starbucks candle DIY by Lisa Pullano. She whisked the wax and put it in a piping back and piped it. It really looks like whipped cream!

Marion Sallee we were working with only one type of wax that day which did not do well with the high temperatures. ideally you want to use a blended wax. Its much more forgiving when you are dealing with a room with high temperatures and having to start and stop video . lol. but yes you can top the cupcakes. the best wax to use is a blend and then top with shredded chocolate with the same blend which you can do with a potato peeler. blended wax is more realistic and forgiving in high temps. its also much better for this type candlemaking

what are the wax you use for both bottom and top of the cupcake? what are the sent's you used ?

cbl 141 is the best to use for this type candle .unfortunately we were only able to have are a hard melt point wax to work with that day. ..The scents are specially formulated for my company and are not available to general public.But there are great fragrances out there for purchase. Search term is candle fragrance oils.
