the video is very informative, but you said specifically "how to make sharp edge dice" but where do you get the sharp edge dice in the first place to make the molds?
They make stacking trivets for Instant Pots, canning devices, etc. I bet a set of them would work great for the pressure pot and you'd be able to place that many more molds or castings in your pot at a time.
I actually custom built the insert you see at 12:15 - it can fit 20 dice at once, I just only did a set of 7 for the video. Maybe I should make a video on that as well!
Thanks for the video! I’m using the same pressure pot and sorta clear 37 but still got tonnes of bubbles in my mold after about 20hrs curing at 50psi. Curious if you’re always getting those great results for the molds with just the pressure pot? Keep up the great vids!
@@MichaelMakes Sorry, my post wasn't super clear. I meant I got lots of bubbles in the sorta clear 37 silicone mold itself when using the pressure pot to make it, I haven't cast a die yet. I didn't degas the silicone with a vacuum chamber, I'm only using a pressure pot for now. Your mold quality looks much clearer than mine. My mold looks like your non-pressurized sample. What pressure are you using/do all your molds come out that clear with just a pressure pot to make molds?
That's really strange! About how long between mixing and pressurizing is passing? Try to minimize that time as much as possible if you can. I am working on another mold video probably for next week that has some more pointers, so stay tuned!
Michael Makes right on! Well I figured it out. My pressure gauge was faulty and I was only getting the pressure up to 5-10 psi. Figured it out when I wasn’t having a huge rush of air from releasing the air valve and it seemed to get up to pressure way too fast. Keep up the great vids my dude!
Thanks for the tutorial. A question for you though if you don't mind: I have a vacuum chamber available, would that be better to use? (I've seen many others recommend using a vacuum chamber for molds and a pressure pot for casts) I am just a bit worried about the shorter working time with the Clear 37.
You could use a vacuum chamber for the silicone, but since you'd need a pressure pot to make clear dice, a multi-use tool is better bang for your buck.
Great video! I have a couple questions. Have you considered sealing the molds with sleeves cut from the Dixie cups? Kind of like a Starbucks cup insulator sleeve. It seems like it would offer more consistent pressure than the rubber bands. Also, what are your thoughts on face sprues vs corner sprues? It seems like face sprues would be much easier to clean up. Thanks for the videos!
Did you print the masters yourself on a UV printer? I ask because I'm having a hard time finding silicone that will cure with my UV printed masters so I was hoping you'd found the magic formula
They are UV-Printed, but I didn't do it personally. I worked with The Blue Mimic to get my masters printed, and the Sorta-Clear silicone has been my m magic bullet for several purposes in mold making.
Hey there! thanks so much for these videos, they help a ton! I wanted to mention, are these molds of commercial dice, or dice you've 3D printed yourself? If you're selling them its not the best to use commercial dice for molds as that is another company/person's work. Just wanted to bring it up but regardless thanks for your tutorials!
