Embroidery is dope, I always carry around a hoop/giant collection of thread so I can embroider during meetings, flights, or commutes home. It helps with a lot of my nervous anxiety energy.

To make it a little more diy and eco-friendly, you can make your own embroidery hoops out any disposable container with a lid! just so long as It's tight enough to hold your fabric in place

A tip for larger pieces (and this would probably help with the striped/check problem too) is to use a plastic hoop because they usually have grooves that lock the fabric in place so it doesn't slip out of the hoop! These are a little bit more expensive than the wood ones so you could do the embroidery in the plastic hoop and then frame it in the wood ones.

Thank you for giving an alternative to using a hot glue gun to mount your work. Keeps both hoops and art work usable for other projects. As you said, from hoop art to patches. Thank you for sharing.

Just a tip for wallhanging if you're using those adhesive hooks. They're really great for renters, but kind of ugly, so you can actually put a little loop on the middle of the back of your embroidery hoop, so it will cover the hook.

I get all my wooden hoops from thrift stores and flea markets so I recommend that if you want to cut down on buying brand new too

If your fabric is very thin and/or smooth (like satin or chiffon for example) you should think about wrapping your hoop. For that, just take a loooong strip of scrap fabric or some fabric ribbon and wrap it around the inner ring all the way until you can't see the wood anymore. Since fabric on fabric creates a lot more friction than fabric on wood, this will make the fabric you're stitching on keep the tention in the hoop a little better. It also reduces permanent marks from the hoop a little bit, if you plan on taking your embroidery out of the hoop.
