Please can you create an energy ball with carob ( or perhaps cacao) and dried pear (that is lovely and chewy). 35 years ago I used to regularly purchase a carob, pear snack bar but I can’t see one on the market now. 😊 Im a new fan of your channel and I love your recipes! 🎉
@TastyThriftyTimely
@TastyThriftyTimely Год назад
Oh interesting. I don’t think I’ve ever had dried pear. I’ll have to keep an eye out for it. Having my own dehydrator would make that easier to create! Is there somewhere you buy dried pear from?
@joannemcdonagh219
@joannemcdonagh219 Год назад
@@TastyThriftyTimely Yes I bought them from a store in the UK called Grape Tree. I tried making energy balls with them today, but I only had cacao powder and I laboured with too many ingredients, trying to disguise the bitterness resulting in a nondescript taste. 😂 The texture was nice though. I guess then it’s more economical for you to try the dehydrator. Whether it works or not I look forward to more of your recipes! I’m learning a lot from you! 😊

How long can i keep it? Should i keep it in the fridge or just at the table? How long will it last till it spoil.
@TastyThriftyTimely
@TastyThriftyTimely 8 месяцев назад
They do need to be kept in the fridge or freezer. I like to freeze them actually because they stay quite soft so they only need a minute or two to soften enough to eat. That way I can keep them for weeks or even a couple of months in an freezer safe container. Otherwise you can store them in the fridge for 1-2 weeks. I hope you enjoy making some!

I'm trying to come up with a mixture to make these in a peanut butter and jelly style and keep it super simple. What would be your advice on this? Based on the proportions you gave, I was thinking 2-2.5 Cups of roasted peanuts for the dry ingredients, and 3/4-1 Cup of dates for the wet/sweet (adding in date-soaking liquid as necessary to ensure texture). Then combining some fruit puree and juice to make a sort of jam (Strawberries mostly likely) and freezing that in little dots to insert into the center of the peanut/date balls before rolling in coconut. I'm just not sure if it will work well with nothing other than the nuts and dates for the main dough.
@TastyThriftyTimely
@TastyThriftyTimely Год назад
Ooo this sounds great! My first thought was you may just find you need something a little drier to help bind the nuts and dates if the mixture gets too sticky. In that case, oats are an easy add in (nut flour like almond flour would work too but is pricier). You could sneak some ground flax seed into the dough as well or use some of that shredded coconut you have for rolling the balls inside the dough if needed. If you’re really adventurous you could toss some cooked chickpeas in with the peanut butter batter but that’s a specific taste that might take some getting used to. The dough might definitely work with just the nuts and dates but if you have a couple of these other options at the ready you could toss small amounts in as needed until you get your desired taste and texture! I love making these healthy raw snacks because you can taste as you go and experiment by adding small amounts of ingredients until you get it the way you like it. Let me know how it goes and what you end up using but it sounds like you’re off to a great start!

In Australia, accessing pumpkin puree is difficult - any substitute suggestions. Tried canned pumpkin soup but nope, complete disaster regardless of how much extra rolled oats I used to "dry mixture out". Many thanx
@TastyThriftyTimely
@TastyThriftyTimely 2 дня назад
@@ellecastle295 oh no 🤦🏻‍♀️ 😬 hopefully you were able to blend the oats into the soup and make a thicker pumpkin soup 😅! Mashed or puréed sweet potato or squash would be the closest substitute. It would take a little longer to prepare obviously but you’ll definitely get closer to that flavour and texture. If you’re not aiming for the pumpkin flavour; the texture of applesauce would be an alright substitute as well. I hope you have better luck with one of those!

What can I use to replace peanut butter? All nuts and almond are forbidden in Quebec's schools.
@TastyThriftyTimely
@TastyThriftyTimely 11 месяцев назад
Is “wowbutter” easily accessible in Quebec? I know that is a popular nut-free option for schools. That one is made from soy but sesame butter “tahini” is a great alternative as well. The taste is a little different so it might take a little getting use to but I love using that in place of nut butter. You could always use fruit or vegetable purées as binders (apple sauce, pumpkin, etc) those options just have less protein than a seed butter or bean paste. I hope this helps!

For sure! I didn’t know there was such a thing but you can use any liquid sweetener you have on hand. You can also something like applesauce to add a bit of sweetness if you want to keep them sugar-free. I hope this helps!
