In this video, we're gonna check out an addon in Blender 2.8 called FaceBuilder by KeenTools which lets you make faces using photographs of people. It is still in the Beta state, so it's free for the time being. That's why I decided to recreate my sister's face using this addon!

I love and subscribed. One question though, I'm making 3D printed Bobble Heads and need to be able to create an approximation of the person's hair too. Is there another addon which does this?

good work on making a face tutorial. I was thinking, how about u expand that to making a cartoonistz face ( like a stylized character face) ? like from the actual face can u make the face look cartoonish ? And also add in a body while you are at it? it would make a good series to match with this one

If you're referring to the textures being cartoonish, you could start with the same workflow for modeling. Once you're done though, just start the texturing process but delete the texture in the material and replace it with your own textures. That'll give you enough flexibility to create your own textures of whatever style according to the UV map that was made. If you want to make the model itself look cartoonish, then you could sculpt it and shape it in a way that fits your game. The head already has a very nice topology so it should work in games fine. If you're aiming for a low poly look, then I'd rather suggest you to model the head yourself using the reference photos instead of using the add-on. I'm not really invested into making a whole lot of series just yet, but I'll give it a thought! :D

I think KeenTools TextureBuilder is the more general tool that is meant to do that. It's only available for Nuke, not Blender, though.

You could use MakeHuman or MB-Lab to create a roughly similar base mesh for the body. Then, use UV projection / projection painting in Blender to extract the textures from the photos & get them onto the model. Photoscanning (e.g. with MeshLab) is more automatic, but it needs more photos & processing time to get it to work. Even then, it's bad at resolving fine detail (e.g. fingers). Also, the resulting model will have bad topology, so if you want to deform/animate the character, you may need to do manual retopology & texture baking. Still might work without for background characters that are mostly standing around.

does anyone else have trouble with setting the pins because it moves the entire mesh? the face I'm modeling has pretty outward sticking ears and the mesh just won't let me do them. it keeps moving the whole side of the head

I captured my face shape along with textures Then I downloaded an obj file of GREEN LANTERN with textures Then I booleaned my face shape with the green lantern one... The textures of both somehow mixed up and I couldnt see my face further Then I tried to rig my character with rigify and auto rig pro But even after parenting with armature and bones my character isnt being rigged . Please help

Damn that's some crazy experimentation right there! I like it! When you take two objects and merge them together (I assume you're using boolean union method for that), then the UVs of each object will get mixed up as they will share the same UV map. Which is why your textures seem to get merged. I can't imagine what result you're expecting from merging objects like that, so I'd need more details to be able to give you a solution properly.

It's just an extra step, not super necessary. I took the base color texture that was generated and then used a ColorRamp node and tweaked them to get a grayscale image to control the roughness.

Then you probably took the photo horizontally as well. I'd recommend you to check if that's the issue. Otherwise, you can always just change the orientation in any image editing software and then bring it into Blender :D

you can add a new head using the Add pulldown too :) are they going to somehow revoke the library when they go paid?

Ahh yeah, thanks for adding that in! And not really, the beta version is always going to be free for those who got it. The stable and final version with all the features will probably be paid. But the ones who got it before it became paid, will still be able to use it.

@@RenderRides Well this didn't age well. If I try to use a beta that I already had installed, it won't let me do anything with the model and redirects me to download the latest build. And when I do, if I don't buy the $150 license, then I only get a 15 day trial. So for the hobbyists that aren't looking to drop $150 for a blender addon, it's rendered kinda pointless for us.

I'm not planning to do any regional videos on my channel that are directed to only a specific country. All of my videos are created in a way that make them compatible in any country, so I'm going to stick to that scheme. Also, if you want to learn how to make money off of making models, there are a bunch of videos covering that topic on RU-vid by a lot of people who probably have much more experience than me when it comes to making money.

There is a BIG hole at the bottom of the neck. How do you fix/fill it?

This addon will only allow you to create heads, so it won't fill the hole at the bottom. That 'hole' is meant to be used when connecting the head to a body model.
