For a single person, this is exceptional work. Your environments, lighting, shading and camera work are exceptional. Easily on par with work from large studios with dozens of people working on them. Your weak links are the characters and VFX (explosions). The characters simply don't rise to the same high level as the environments and hard surface models. They're not bad. They simply aren't great. Using photo-scanned characters (like we did at Electronic Arts for game characters) for both modeling and textures would help. The face and eye textures in particular give away that these are CG characters. The poses and motion do as well. But for a single artist working for 3 months, this is truly exceptional work. Congrats!
To be honest, while what Steve said is true, I didn't find the characters taking away from my experience watching. Your pacing and editing was spot on and kept me engaged the entire time. The only thing that I found distracting was the explosion, and it is possible to make that look real or improved. Very impressive and quite inspiring work!
I think the sniper shot its self looked pretty on point. The trigger pull was what threw me a little. Sniper rifles don’t require even half that pressure to fire usually.
Now we know what part of the SAG/AFTRA strike was about... ;-) Still need to work on skin textures, though. Too "clean". Problem across all CGI makers, not specifically to you (some Unreal Engine films have the same issue for me as a viewer). Hard to get those imperfections in the texture... I agree with others on the 'copter crash... not "messy" enough with flying debris, just a "flame pop"... And, was the shooter male or female? I thought male at the start, but the eye closeups made me think female. Would have been a nice twist to unmask in the evac chopper...
as someone who is learning both modelling and animation in blender, this movie just encourages me to keep learning blender despite what people say about it 🙏🙏
Don't listen to people who wouldn't achieve this in 5 years. Great job. So many details. They don't know how much work this takes for a single person. I'm so proud of you and i'm happy that people like you exist. 💜 much love
The CG humans are obviously CG (which is SO hard to get right; even for Hollywood blockbusters) and that explosion could've used some tweaking, but everything else is top class.
The singular hardest, most challenging thing to get right in 3D animation is human eyes. We evolved to be creatures that pay attention to eyes for fundamental trust and assessment, which makes them unbelievably difficult to imitate.
Yeah, the explosion of course needs refinement, but at least a great work for a single person. It will cost more time. Uncanny valley is really a problem, it shows our imperfection of trying to model reality. Hollywood partially solve this problem by using a real human to act in behalf of the CG.
@@akogepayo thats why I hate the concept of realism/photorealism, such waste of resources and the more "realistic", the more the uncanny valley becomes unbearable
@Movie Recaps he use red boat to make them think its a normal citizen's boat, if its the same color of the sea, that would make his target look at the boat more carefully
LOL... literally the least tactical position you would ever want to be as a sniper. No cover/concealment, in a bright red boat bobbing up and down on the waves. Great animation, though!
The overall scene and the realism was just incredible, specially the color correction was awesome, I wanted to mention 2 things that you could made it better, 1 the characters near the chopper was a little bit low quality while the rest of your scene was all filled with realism so you could make them better, 2 the explosion was also not great and it seems like the explosion happens before you the chopper hits the mountain, so that was 2 things that you could made it better, but the color correction and the foam on the sea and other details was jaw-dropping, you have done this in 3 months I wouldn't even able to done this in 1 year great job wish you more success.
Oh My God! If it wasn't for the close up of the characters I honestly thought they were real people acting but the close up revealed it all. Awesome Work!!!! I love it
I thought that just the mountains, bullet, and the helicopter were rendered items, but it was the whole frickin' movie! Awesome job!! This is a true inspiration.
At first, I was trying to figure out which part of the shot was CG. It wasn't until the close-up of the face that I realized it was everything. REALLY well done!
For a moment at beginning I thought the sniper a real human who used green screen This was awesome The animation and the environment looks epic Would also check your other animations as well :DDD
Very impressive! I'm amazed at how the water looked. I was trying to spot repetitions but didn't see any. And there were some bits of white water, too, which is very difficult to achieve. Good decisions on composition, lighting and look. Human skin is challenging to get to look good. It consists of a variety of shades in real life. Even a face would have some variations. You might want to nix the red glow on the base of the bullet. Tracer rounds aren't accurate. Snipers wouldn't use them. Also, the trigger has a lot of "backlash" which good sniper rifles wouldn't have. The movement would be much less. A two-stage trigger would have about 1/3 of that movement before the sear is engaged. After that it's just a touch to fire. A few things to consider: The inflatable boat should be dark grey or camouflaged. The fabrics looked great, especially the knit caps. Do you do this for a living?
@@cgichecklist6005 I’m gobstopped at the quality you have achieved in so short a time! Deeply impressive. And I like the choice of colors, etc. it showcases your skills even better (regardless of whether a red boat would be realistic). Brilliant work!
Wow, I am really impressed by the high quality of this movie! Everything (other than the characters and the explosion, which are a bit too average) is so realistic, that I would even believe it was filmed. Great job!
GOSH! That's so good and plus just done in 3 months. You nailed the environment, atmosphere all of it. The humans were kinda off but I'm not gonna complain cuz I know how much of trouble that is. And if those humans were all keyframed you are just incredible.
"I think I did a good job?" most of those frames looks so real I wasn't sure it was CGI. AWESOME results! thanks for sharing... YT was made for this after all
This reminds me of watching piper, a short story by pixar in the cinema.. I was confused at 1st - the water looked real, the birds looked real and it took me a while to realise it was actually animated. This film did the same with the lake sequence.. Its amazing how far animation has come..
Since you asked: Story: Sharpshooter on waves seems easy to spot using a red boat and difficult to aim with. You should establish the shooter's challenge show what he has to shoot without the scope. It's a bit distracting when the establishing shot has the character look one direction but turns around to use his rifle for no reason. You should be able to hear what the sharp shooter hears not outside the headphones. The boat should roll more @ 0:22 with those size waves. 2:21 The gun should keep the same aim and not be locked with the angle as the boat. The helicopter crash is too smooth, the crash looks like a fade out. A real crash, the blades smashes against the rocks shaking the helicopter then it explodes, also add some small debris on contact and when exploding to sell it better. 3:07 the helicopter is shown quite low but you should reposition the camera to show its reflection/shadow onto the water for a more interesting shot. Great job can I hire you?
Everything is so sick, from the opening shot to color grading, sound design and especially I loved the scene where the bullet got curved. So amazing man💣💣
I would say that the chopper blades should have hit the cliff and sent debris, which violently jerked the helicopter into the cliff, cracking it in half and then exploding with debris field.
As a professional animator of almost 15 years, I have to say not bad for 3 months of work. I assume the character models were ripped game assets, judging by what looks to be pre-modeled clothing. But I get it saves lots of time. simulating the clothing goes a long way to selling the animation. The explosion looks like you ran out of time. A quick way to sell the explosion better would be to color correct the explosion asset on its own. It appears you only corrected the final image, which tends to really throw off the highlights for an asset that should have intense bright spots, though I could be wrong. Also, your water sim, lighting, and materials were quite good. I actually said aloud "oh nice" when it first came on screen. Keep at it.
@@johnsonsamuel7677 The title says it all - done in Blender3D. OpenSource software that'll let you do 3D modeling, animation, rendering, composition and editing - all in one humungous piece of software. It runs fine on at least Linux and Windows.
Amazing work! I love how realistic it looks. The water sims, the distanced terrain, and the camera work! Blender is amazing at 3D but pulling off REALISM is somewhat difficult with Blender. You did a stellar job at accomplishing that. Good stuff!
This short really inspired me as a beginner in Blender, I can see what's possible and more. Beautiful creation I would say. A lot was put into every aspect and I look forward to being inspired by your works as I continue learning my way around Blender. You've got a new subscriber.
everybody is talking about the realism of the humans and the smoke sims but yk what's the actual most important thing? THE STORY TELLING; and since it managed to keep my monkey brain intrigued through out the whole thing, it's safe to say that you did great on that department. I was literally leaning in to the screen without noticing it wondering what's gonna happen
this is exactly the kind of animations i want to be able to create. i have been doing blender for almost two years and i have finally enrolled for an animation course, to be able to create my dream sci fi series i have been planning for almost a year now
@@wallacesousuke1433 no i actually want to create cinematic scenes that i have been wanting to do for ages. i have progressed quite far at the moment, and i encourage people who want to learn 3d software that it is possible to learn these kinds of talents. sorry if that was long
@@Shattered3582 was just kidding haha I'd love to be able to create this stuff, but I dont think I have the talent, patience and artistic genius to do so, best of luck to ya, can't wait to see your masterpieces :P
You have a bug on the closing credits: the rôles are changing but not the name... Just kidding ! :) Fabulous work for a single person! And I love the fact it was done in Blender...
As someone trying to learn blender to animate documentaries, let me say that I hope my work comes out even half as good as this. The only two tiny nitpicks I have are thats not how you pull a trigger -you use the pad of your fingertip and press straight back, and the crash seemed a bit off, but still, those are minor things. This was amazing! Well done
just a little tip, maybe just put a helmet on the sniper, helps cover up the face and makes animation a whole lot easier. The eyebrows look a little smeared, and the skin around his eyes should not be completely stiff when hes looking around. Also thats a nice touch on the non-linear bullet projectile path, but its kinda not supposed to go right and bend back? Should be going in the direction of the wind and downwards due to the force by the rotors. The concept of this guy sniping on a boat is really cool, but in reality no sniper would pick such a windy spot on such turbulent seas. Still really sick, love it :D
Amazing, highly professional work! Thank you for publishing this. And biggest thanks of all to Blender Foundation for continuing to make this outrageously, powerful software free.
This is awesome! I honestly looked at the person for so long in the beginning and thought it was a real person, trying to find something to indicate CG. When that's the case, you know you are looking at something really good!
Honestly, this is incredible. The only thing that kind of took me out of it, was the helicopter explosion should have been slowed down and a bit smaller, to represent something large scale, and maybe some reflection on the eyes and SSS on the skin of the characters. Your water and environments are stunning work.
IM BLOWN AWAY BY THE ORIGINALITY OF SCENE AND LOVED THE CAMERAS. BUT PEOPLE LOOKS TRASH, NO OFFENSIVE, I CANT IMAGINE YOU SINGLY MADE IT.
2 года назад
You kill my eyes with the Third Mont... in the background... that how it is in reality... your background is perfect it set everything foreground in focus... I like it too munch...
very impressive considering that this was done with zero budget. the extraction of the snipers was a bit odd, considering that they used a small boat boat to get in to position in stealth mode made the extraction in the same location looks a bit unrealistic, also i've noticed there was no sub surface scatter on the face skin of the characters i guess its it was a time constraint on artists part. , i liked scene blocking, it was a well drawn camera compositions
This is crazy good, much better than anything I've been able to make, which is a little depressing lol. I'd love to see a deep dive into how you did the animations.
couldn't tell the difference from live action until I saw the face. Faces are difficult to make look real I assume since we look at them all day. Great job.
Wow! Great job! Only texturing and the explosion could have been a little better. The Characters could have just used scaned models and for the explosion at first the rotor bladses should have broken apart and only on full impact the explosion should have happened. But really impressive for only 3 months!
This is very good. As many people stated, characters do look a bit CG and the crash scene looked fake, but honestly I see the crash scene more as being a limitation of Blender. But the lighting is definitely there. For Characters, I think if you were to have a bigger budget and a team, you could've probably tried comping them into the scene as greenscreen. Sounds easier on paper obviously, but I think either way it would be 100x easier than trying to replicate humans in 3D which takes a lot more precision.
Things will change with ai motioncapture I believe than we will be easily able to animate without much stress to rig every bone manually or try to mix 10 different motion capture bvh results
Amazing Animation! It looks exactly like the animations made by ubisoft for Rainbow 6 and Call of Duty. By any chance, do you have tutorials? I would even be willing to pay to learn CG like this! Great work 👍
Looked totally real up until 0:39. The humans, a good bit of the helicopters, the shot fired, and especially the explosion (wtf was that?) were nowhere near the same level as the very beginning. But that opening shot shows you have real talent. If you can bring everything else up to that level you'll be headed for the bigtime. 👍
BRO! THAT WAS GREAT! THOUGHT THAT WAS REAL! (Most of it at least, like what steve said, the characters, and the explosions) I didn't think this was compleaty made in in blender, wow (I am not incuding after effects etc) but, wow great job!
I at first couldn’t tell if the assassin was real or cgi. It wasn’t till I saw his eyebrows that I knew he was cgi. I probably would’ve made the hairs thinner and added more plus I would’ve lightened them in color since hair is one of the hardest things to make real second to skin. If his eyebrows were hidden It might’ve fooled most untrained eyes. Awesome work. I’m impressed and just subbed since I’m currently teaching myself Blender and hope to make mini movies like this. This was really cool to watch.
Man for the first minute you could've fooled me I thought that joint was real til I saw the dudes eyebrow and even then I questioned myself like is he cg or real. Absolutely incredible!
This is just mindblowing! Like always it's the humans or specially the faces which are so difficult to make realistically. The water, terrain with the mountains, ... are just indistinguishable 👍🏻
