Great videos you produce. Did I miss something though, 1.85:1 is wide-screen cinema standard and Cinemascope (anamorphic lens) >2.35:1. 70mm I believe is 2.2:1. But I didn't think 2:1 was a mainstream cinema standard. Though I guess it kind of fits in between and is an easy round number. Keep up the great work
Thanks Jason, I’ve never known the actual standard of aspect ratio for cinema, I guess “2:1” works best on stretching out the content to fill the mobile phone screen or “hand held smartphone cinema screen” where these days most people view their content
Hi from France. Love your tips and your energy 😉 Your movie from Greece is awesome, it reminds me of my trip 7 years ago with my Hero 3 black. I’ve been offered a Hero 9, unfortunately my 2013 Mac is now to old to edit 4 and 5k videos. I need to change my computer, do you have any recommendation (pc or mac) about the minimum configuration (RAM, CPU etc...) if I want to edit 4k/5k vids with premiere ? Thanks 😉
@@JakeRichandAnnaChah Thank you.. i hope you also have a tutorial on how to use one. I got mine but so difficult for me to insert images, transition and music =( More power to you buddy .. thank you again for your help
Thank you so much for this video in helping me setup my GP11HBCC for my Lawn & Land business and creating family and the farm life playtoys and other fun memories. Best wishes. 🫶🏻🇮🇪🌬️
Nice Vlog. Me i don't care about the Quality of videos if i win an Oscar for best film and $1 million i will do it but for now kids don't sweat it out. Nobody really cares the quality of videos we make. Enjoy being a RU-vidr.
I think DaVinci Resolve is a pretty good software for color grading, it's free and it has a lot of settings, for editing, compositing, color grading, sound effect... That's a very good software @@explorer8125
Great video, but you're misunderstanding why 24fps looks cinematic, it's the motion blur that comes with having the lens capturing the image for 1/24th of a second - it won't have any such cinematic effect if you shoot at 120fps and then just modify the playback speed to 24fps in post unless you use some filter to artificially create the motion blur.
You're misunderstanding frames per second with shutter speed. Motion blur comes with slower shutter speeds, not lower frames per second. The lower frames per second leaves larger gaps in the motion (from frame to frame) which are eyes are used to. Those frames don't need to be blurred. General rule of thumb for cinematic is 24 fps shot at 1/48 or 1/50 shutter speed.
So much value from all these videos Jake! Your tutorials gave a supercharge to the way I filmed my surf trip and am so happy with how the latest video came out. I can only imagine they'll keep getting better with stuff like this
Great tips! My top cinematic tip is about how to move the camera: instead of turning/rotating to pan, move along a single plane/axis (like the camera would on a slider or dolly) instantly levels up shots! GoPro’s are such awesome little tools 🙌🏼
That's a great idea! - I think that's what I was doing when I filmed the shot moving towards the gate, had the gopro on the selfie stick and used it as a slider to slowly track through the flowers ;) (one of my favourite shots from the opener)
Can you do a video more on the editing process of how to make it cinematic ? Like which is the best platform to use, settings, maybe even color grading. Another video idea to can be " How to plan out telling a story " so that the video clips actually make sense. Thanks and love all the videos !
Too bad cinematic sound doesn't have a subscription for those of us that aren't big time video creators. I would love to use their service but I wouldn't use it enough to justify the $9 monthly fee.
I’m new to this entire world, it’s people like you that make this world a better place. Thank you for sharing your wealth of knowledge in a east to understand format! ❤
Thank you for this video Jake. I just bought a GoPro 9 this past weekend and I have updated my settings per your opinion and so far the videos are super smooth. I am excited to dive deeper into all the settings.
Dude your “tip” text and tiles are exactly what I’ve been looking for! I started my travel channel last year (I know right, the year we couldn’t travel) but I’ve been looking for something like that for the start of my videos as it looks like a departure board in an airport which is what I really want! Is there anyway you could share that with me? Also amazing video you get so much out of a GoPro dude! Love the videos
First up, your footage looks good, but you do realise the gopro is limited to 100mbps (mega bites per second) therefore if you use a higher framerate then the quality per frame will be reduced. Why you shoot in 24 or 30 for non slomo footage, because then the frame quality will be higher as there is less frames per second for the total mbps.
You're the man Jake; thanks for your series. Had such a great evening enjoying the deep dive on your clips, happy to see someone enjoying their life and creating sick content. Cheers mate.
Thanks so much for sharing your experience, knowledge and expertise with us really appreciate it. So sorry we haven't been able to visit you for a while we have been busy moving house etc. But great to catch up with you again. See you again soon bro.
Sir, I need some advice, please. I want to film a pool tournament; the only thing is it's in a bar and kinda dark, except right over the pool table is a light! I have a GP 10 black. Could you please recommend settings to use in this environment? Thank you Marty
What a Great Video I love it, but I have question i have Gopro hero 7 black and on my gopro i cant record 2.7k 120fps with hypersmooth should I record cinematic video 2.7k 120fps without hypersmooth or with hypersmooth but only 2.7k 60fps
just found your page as i just got a gopro 9, max lens, the media mod (no mic but i do have a cheap lav) and some other tripod/little doodad things. im new to photography, and traveling Europe too - I'm now just thinking, is 400GB micro SD enough for say 5-6 weeks? should i also be making any backup, too? Do you edit and produce any of your videos from your phone, on the go (no editing from laptop or pc, just editing from the phone itself) > If so, what do you suggest? (or just wait, and edit later) > I'm wondering how possible this could be...
When it comes to editing I think I was retarded as a child and my mom didn't tell me. Now that I am 63 I think I am reverting back to my childhood. I don't smoke weed but I think the only way to understand this would be to smoke a big fat joint. 😛 It wouldn't be long I would have award winning videos. Also have the munchies. I will save your video and keep going over it thanks.
Hi, i am going to start film making with go pro don't have camera yet, will rent go pro as that is the only camera, i can afford now, is there any tip for beginner, i uave Neve done thay before.
And another query, when I try to take videos on GoPro 9, when I get about a feet closer to things, like flowers in the garden, the video is not clear. Any reason that might be causing that?
Video title s/b "How to Make GoPro *9 Onwards* Cinematics". Turns out I can't quite do half of these on the 7. Video starts at 1:28. 1) Very high res & frame rate. 2 (3:21) Set color to Flat. (It de-gray-ifies everything.) 3 (4:26) Typical upbeat music. 5:58-6:07 The rockiness of each footstep is noticeable. 4 (6:23) Match cuts (smooth angle transitions) 5 (7:13) Aspect ratio Liked the enthusiasm and enjoyed the informative share though. Thanks!
i see that when i edit my GoPro in Editing tools - the picture clarity is lost and the file size is drastically reduced . Do you recommend any Particular editing tool.. Free if possible
why do you all make the music in these things so loud. So many RU-vidrs do this. You have to have your tv up loud enough to hear the talking, then you cut to something with music and it blasts through the tv... whyyyyyyyyy
Would be cool if I could actually turn my go pro on when I wanted to use it instead of having to faff about removing the battery or holding buttons down, damm thing
This is definitely not for beginners. The title should say intermediate filmmakers. The majority of what he was saying I did not know about and it was too fast to understand.
Super useful. I received a GoPro hero 10 as a Xmas gift and upgraded from a GoPro hero 4 which is such a dramatic upgrade and really glad I found your channel. I never really got it editing video it was more just using an app to let it automatically create videos for me like quik from my vacations etc but now with a 6 and 8 year old and how much we started traveling I've decided to take some time to experiment with video editing and man I'm excited to get started. 👍
Getting ready to upgrade my GoPro to a 10. Really enjoyed your tips on cinematic improvements. I need to step up. Cheers! Oh, I forgot, New Sub here as well.
