How to Make Hair Grease

Greetings Naturals!! I wanted to show you how you can make a very simple all natural hair grease! I know a lot of naturals stopped using hair grease because they were told that it was “bad” because it contains things like lanolin, petroleum, and mineral oil, but you do not have to put those ingredients in your hair grease if you don’t want them in there. Just simply take your favorite oil, or oil mixture and add the desired amount of beeswax to make it into an easy to apply hair grease.

The lanolin/Vasoline/mineral oil formula is precisely what my gramma and mama used on their hair and mine. Ma even used it to press my hair. I’ve been natural since 1988 and after using every store bought natural hair product known to man, three years ago I went back to my roots. Got this gray hair sparkling and old 74 yo scalp smiling. Kudos to you for passing the ancestral knowledge along. ❤❤

Since 2016 I've been back to using hair grease. Now I usually buy multiple at a time, at least two, because their so cheap and affordable. And because hair grease is so moisturizing I only need to apply it once or twice a week. They also last a long time, so I rarely have to purchase any new hair products at all. It's a win, all around for me. My hair grease is definitely here to stay. I came to the same assumption you did that myths and bad information was spread about hair grease to get us to stop buying it, to get us to buy these newer more expensive products and unfortunately we all fell for it, without any proof. We all grew up on hair grease as children and for most of us that was when our hair was the healthiest. Then all of a sudden we started hearing hair grease was bad and we went crazy. It's crazy these new products be charging 15 dollars for one product that's only 8 ounces and will only last a couple of weeks. Yet I can easily buy 3 twelve ounce jars of hair greases for that same 15.00 dollars and have all three products last me over a year, maybe more. Hair grease definitely got a bad rep so that other companies could get our dollars instead. I'm so convinced of this.

I wondering, what waxes would be idea for humid weather, (NW Florida) to be exact? It will get cold here but its not until January that we'll experience some real cold weather, our winter's are nothing like Chicago's. Wonderful tutorial and thanks for sharing some of your ingredients, it's much appreciated. 👍😊

I absolutely LOVED this video! My grandmother and mother used nothing but Vaseline or crown royal and shampoo. Both could sit on their hair. My mother is in her 70’s and my grandmother lived till she was 92 with few health problems. However, we got away from it like you said, because of marketing and greed (Hair grease is cheap!). I’m going back to it. I’m wondering which do you prefer more- Vaseline, beeswax, or lanolin? I thought about purchasing 100% pure lanolin used for leather conditioning for my hair but it’s a lot more expensive than plain petroleum and wondering if it was worth it. You have a great Ayurvedic herb stash- I’m slowly building mine lol. Thanks again! Such great information.

A lot of people need to watch this video. Because a lot of people always talking about how bad grease is but they don’t use it correctly. Most oils shouldn’t go directly on the scalp. Also some people have unhealthy scalps and they swear they don’t need to clean their scalps because the dirt “build up” helps it grow. Meanwhile their hair is above their shoulders. And no you don’t necessarily need to cleanse the scalp very often like you mentioned. But for some it is a preference or a must for most. But a lot of people that have poor routines and unhealthy scalp need to handle the scalp problems first before deciding not to wash their scalp frequently. And for the “grease causes acne” part. Those people that say that don’t even take care of their bodies. They have unhealthy eating habits and poor hygiene and home cleaning habits. Grease doesn’t cause acne. Filth, hormone problems, and eating habits cause acne. I’ve heard every hair tip and advice out there on RU-vid but I never heard this correct information at all. This should be the top video for all these so called hair gurus or “naturals”. Because grease is good. At least when I was a small child I didn’t have any problems with it.

I'm not trying to speak against anyone else's ideas of the synthetic uses of the above stated products. But from the experiences of myself and friends around me and family members especially when it comes to mineral oil. It has no way to enter into the pores properly and it eventually cakes up on the skin especially the scalp also back in the day there were many reasons for why black people of certain areas we're not washing their hair as often as we are today. They did not have what we have today as far as accessibility to products that are healthy for our hair. So they used what was available. There was not much education either. Also I noticed when using certain things eventually you produce a smell and when you put your fingers in your scalp and rub it you can smell whether or not your hair needs to be washed and your scalp needs to be thoroughly cleansed. When applying certain heavy products and to go for long periods of time without washing your hair you can only imagine the smell that can come from a person's head at that point. If I can give an example I would say pink moisturizing lotion was one of the most widely used products on the hair and if that product was not washed out within days from using it you would walk around smelling like old stale garbage or some type of old wax that was left in the sun too long. That kind of old greasy smell on top of the person's personal scent it can be overwhelming. I would like to look into the more natural elements of products for black hair, I like the fact that we get to learn more than one way to produce a hair wax or hair grease or hair pomade. I guess when it comes to kitchen chemistry we need to take great notes make sure they are detailed notes and ensure that the measurements are on point. And one last thing, Ensure that before exposing the product to the world that you have experience in the use and time with such products. I've seen some people come out on RU-vid and say oh well this is my first time making this product but they will talk about it as if they have years of experience with using it. So I really do appreciate you coming out with this information because it appears that you do enjoy putting together something that works for yourself and sharing it with us and hope that we too can learn something, thank you.
