Wow! This just blew my mind! I'm having a serious "Why did I not think of that?" moment. Thank you so much for sharing this. I have a quilt I was just going to put together & I was wondering how I was going to quilt it. I'm going to use this method. I have some quilting pattern books I bought at a thrift store with tons of continuous quilting line patterns. I didn't know how I was going to use them before but you've given me the answer. It would be so much easier transferring and seeing the lines on the back of the quilt! Brilliant! Thank you!

Thank you so much in showing how quilting is actually done. After seeing you draw the pattern and then sewing the pattern, my brain clicked and I realize now it is not as hard as I thought ir would be, I understand fully now thanks to you about the Brain memory, I was moving my hands as you were quilting the pattern. Thank you once again for the wonderful tutorials, I have learned so much from you, You are such a kind-hearted lady

OK.... it's official! You have just ROCKED MY WORLD! I have been FMQ on a domestic machine for about 2 years...or learning too. You have just bumped me out of my meander and feather comfort zone into a completely different orbit! I have a couple of designs I have been playing around with all morning ( I ordered a couple of pantographs early on when I didn't know any better and didn't realize they weren't really for domestic machines) and have been having a BLAST! I discovered also that by going over the design in a very black marker (s-l-o-w-l-y) I can plainly see through many of the prints I use for backing fabric. I mostly do kids quilts so the sizing is very manageable for me. Additionally, your points about direction and size are spot on. One of my designs works beautifully; the other one, not so much. I cannot say THANK YOU enough! Thank you for opening up this whole new world for me! I just KNEW there had to be a way... and as usual... you took a complicated thing and simplified it so beautifully. You have a true talent for that! Have a Blessed Day!

What a great idea!! Never thought of that before! I have some long arm patterns like that and I trace them onto Golden Threads Quilting Paper, then “sew” the design with an unthreaded needle you perforate the paper, then use pounce to transfer the design. It’s a bit of a long process but really only needs to be done once because you can reuse it many times afterwards.

I make my own paper stencils, so I could do the same with these pantographs. I stitch through the design with a large needle on my domestic machine. Then I position the stencil/pantograph where I want the design on the right side of my quilt. I usually spray a section of the top of quilt sandwich lightly with water, pounce, quilt and repeat. Sometimes I spray again after I pounce if the chalk is still too "fly-away;" however, you don't want it too wet - just enough to make the chalk stick...and I NEVER iron over colored chalk - it just might become permanent.

May I just warn, to check those water erasable pens on a scrap first. Sometimes they don’t budge at all with waters, or er, saliva on a finger. (I confess). Or sometimes they leave a grey shadow when wet. Or if you just wash the finished item with detergent and a little heat, it actually sets the mark as brown stain. We’ve all had it reappear as a halo when dry, because it wasn’t rinsed right out. Rinse again. This persistence varies between fabrics, not just between pens. Test. Some are very quick to fade, in a humid atmosphere. I’ve experienced the whole range!
@georgiaatthelake8142
@georgiaatthelake8142 4 года назад
I've had the blue reappear after the area is wet again, for the 2nd time. I use damp cloth to erase the marks completely. Then tested, after dry, with clean damp cloth. Back came the original marks. Better to use a frixion pen, the kind that truly disappears when ironed? Love this technique, can't wait to try it!
@lynnehrmantraut9167
@lynnehrmantraut9167 3 года назад
I’ve had good luck with mark b gone. Issue with friction is it will leave a light line on dark fabric sometimes - almost as I’d it bleached but not an issue with light fabric.
@barbaraandrews356
@barbaraandrews356 3 года назад
But be careful with frixion pens, those marks come back if exposed to cold temps.

I have done something similar, using a tear away design. I didn't want to use it and then have to buy it again, so I traced it onto a similar weight paper and used it in the same way as the tear away. It didn't occur to me to buy a pantograph to do that! Thanks for this idea!

Would a pantograph that’s 6.5”-7” work ok or should I find something a little smaller? And since you recommend using a light fabric, do you ever use a premium muslin for backing?
