I'm from Puerto Rico and i never heard about apple butter till my mid teens. Once i did. That was life changing and i was really dissapointed when i learned that we didnt have those back at home. So i thank you very much for sharing this recipie
It's funny how certain foods can be "life changing" when you first have them. For me that was the case with Brussels sprouts! Lol I was 40 when I first had them and I wondered where they had been all my life! Anyway, I'm happy you found this recipe because now you can have apple butter even when you can't find it at the store. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment.
Apple Butter was one of those treats that I only had when I was at my grandparents! I have so many apples now from my familys orchard I'm gonna make this this week, luckily I have a peeler/corer! Yours look so delish!! Great job!
Your family has an apple orchard? NIIIICE!!! You should definitely double or triple the recipe then. You'll love it. I saw an apple peeler at Goodwill a few days after I shot this video, but I still didn't get it because I have so many dishes, I have no room left to store anything. If I had access to an apple orchard, I definitely would have bought it.
I love apple butter. I grew up eating it with peanut butter or with creamed cheese sandwich. I imagine you would adjust the sugar to the type of apple being used.
I think you're right. Also thinking if you use apple cider and not water, that may make it sweeter, too. Btw, I've never tried apple butter with cream cheese, but I already like the thought of it.
Do any of you take a trip to an apple orchard in the fall? Growing up we used to go to Hillsboro or Cloudcroft in New Mexico. When I lived in Northern California, I loved going to Apple Hill. There's just something so special about buying fresh picked apples direct from the grower. And, if they happen to sell homemade apple pies, that's just as good as it gets!
I can't wait to make this, especially during the fall season. I have found it very hard to find Apple Butter in Southern Calif. in the grocery stores since Covid. Thank you, I will let you know how it turns out.
Sorry you haven't found apple butter in your local grocery stores, but happy to hear you'll be trying this recipe now. I think you're going to love it. You know how it is with anything homemade. It's just so much better! Thanks for the comment. I look forward to hearing how it turns out. 😊
I can’t find any recipes that taste like my great grandmother’s homemade apple butter. Every one I have tried or made by others taste like spiced applesauce not how I remember at all. Hopefully this recipe will be a winner. Thanks!
Thanks! I've never called it "pumpkin butter," but I guess I have made it, since I do make pumpkin empanadas. Here's a link to my recipe: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-FiIAp-xtd0k.html
What a precious memory. I'm sure your mom would be so proud to know you carried on her tradition and that you held her close in your heart all the while. ❤ Thanks for the comment. Sending you a virtual hug.
Oh yeah. I made some apple butter and boy is it delicious. I even made a peanut butter and apple butter sandwich. I'm in Apple Butter heaven. Thanks Marcy.
I was expecting apple butter to have butter in it, lol. Then you made it and I'm thinking, that's like apple sauce. It seems to be more spiced and thicker than apple sauce though.
It looks like apple sauce when you first purée it, but then you add the sugar and spices, and let it cook down, and it becomes a tasty jam you can spread on a piece of toast. I’m guessing that’s where the “butter” comes in, but who knows. 🤷🏻♀️🍎🧈
