I have small kids and it's amazing how many of the homesteaders with the huge followings out there don't remember the time crunch of having small children underfoot and how puttsy and time intensive their recipes are. I searched WAY too hard for your super easy, super fast no nonsense recipe! Thank you thank you thank you...but boo to youtube algorithm that makes it that I only see the creators with 300k followers. I am subscribing so I don't lose your recipes!
I had to tweek the process. BECAUSE I had crab apples. I cut the stems and bottom off. Then put them in the instapot- thanks for that tip. When cooked i put them through my old fashioned sieve. Then put it back in the pot added the rest of the ingredients and brought it to a simmer. And presto... I made apple butter. 😋
I really hope that you enjoyed this video! Thank you so much for watching and supporting this channel! Be sure to stay tuned for my next video where I'll show you how to water bath can this apple butter.
Thank you for giving me the confidence to make this in my IP. I have two IP's so I made about 19 jars total. Came out great. Added pumpkin pie spice, and it came out great.
@@HeartFilledHomemaking It was so rich and creamy, I did let it sautee' for about 15 minutes to make sure and get it really thick. There were some hints of peel in it, but it really didn't bother me. The flavor was so rich and deep, it taste just like Christmas! I will definitely be making more. Originally, I was going to make it in the Crock pot, then i realized "hey, i have 2 IP's in the garage" so I decided to save time and make an extra big batch. Gave some to my neighbor, sand she said it tasted just like what her mom used to make in the 1940's. That warmed my heart.
I just spent a full 15 hours making this in a crockpot. I REALLY wish that I had seen your video before that time! Apple butter is one of my memories of my mother and grandmother. How they would love having an instapot. Thank you so much for sharing. I will be sharing the making of apple butter with my grandchildren - only with an Instapot this time.
Thank you for showing us how to make apple butter in the instant pot. I’ve never done it that way. I will definitely do this the next time. All day on the stove or in the crockpot is sooooo slow. I do water bath can it to make it last and is a great gift.
My cousin visited me recently from St. Louis and bought a jar of Apple butter with her a friend had made and it was my first time I've ever tasted it and I fell in love and started looking for ways to make it so far this one is the best to me I don't know how to can and the jars what was that you were using to get the tops out with and where they kept in hot boiling water and then dipped out and put on the top I'm definitely gonna try this recipe and I really enjoyed watching the video you made it look so easy, I have subscribed and planned on watching many more of your videos
Oh I hope you give it a try! This was actually my very first time. Thanks for subscribing, I'm glad you're here and I hope to hear from you again in the future.
I'm new to this too! I've also tried the crockpot method and I in my opinion the instant pot is a game changer. I hope you get to try it. Thanks for reaching out!
What ! Yum ! I’ve been canning most all my life and I’m 65 ! Everything from fresh Tuna off the boat to everything but meats ! I’ve NEVER NEVER heard of wiping your jars with vinegar! Super ! That must be be something handed down ! I love that idea !! That Nugget of knowledge! Tell me where did you learn this ? Thank you !! I love my instant pot ! Oh and my Grandma Bell made the world best Apple Butter ! Oh how I wish I had that recipe!!! Thank you for teaching this important skill !! Deb in California!
Hi Debra! I'm not sure where the vinegar idea originated. I'm so happy that it's new to you and I hope you find it helpful. I wish I had my grandma's recipe too. I've inherited a huge box of her recipes that I haven't gone through yet. I hope it's in there! Thanks for commenting! I hope to hear from you in the future. Let me know if you try the vinegar.
I just made this for my wife on her birthday. She loves it. Thank you for this video. My wife had a great birthday. Now if you could tell me how to fix a apple stack cake. Lol 😆
I would just like to know how you style your hair? I love your hair! I have natural curly hair, but cannot get it to do this without a curling iron! I hope your apple butter turns out fantastic!!
Thanks. I will occasionally use a curling iron if I have straight pieces, but I try to avoid heat because it's the heat that ruins the curl pattern. So it's best to just tough it out and condition it well until the curls return.
Thanks for the recipe! I've never made homemade apple butter before, but definitely plan to try it. That's a wonderful memory of making it on the fire with your family!
Great job! I haven’t ever seen your videos, but I watch a lot of videos. Clearly done nicely edited. Great topic! Haven’t seen this one 50 times❤ Looking forward to trying this I remember this as a child Yum Yum😊
You have a kitchenaid mixer, try it using the food mill. Cook the apples, core, peels and all then run the cooked apples through the food mill. You will then have applesauce to start the slow cook with and you won’t need the immersion blender (spelled with an I not an E, emersion is the process of leaving…you emerge from the smoke etc, immersion is going into). I have been making apple butter for almost 50 years. Have done it in copper pots and black iron kettles and now do it a commercial cannery. Never tried with vanilla in…may try that.
I love to grab apple butter when I’m up in the mountains in the Fall. I’ve never made it myself, though. I can just imagine how good it is on warm biscuits or toast! All the Fall vibes! 🍁🍎
I totally agree with you! I would always get apple butter at Jaemor Farms in North Georgia! So good! Now I can make it in my Instant Pot! I use to help my mother make strawberry, peach or blueberry jelly on the stove! So many good memories. I believe it also had something to do with putting wax on the top of the jars. Anyone remember that?
I LOVE ❤️ your hair…it’s so beautiful!!! I have curly hair too but after a bunch of hormonal changes and having *Ovid19 a few times it’s gotten coarse and brittle. Miss my curls
Thank you! I have been trying to grow it out, and you know curly hair gets bigger before it gets longer so I gave up and was going to cut it short again like in this video. Well I straightened it to cut it and my daughter convinced me to keep it long and straight for awhile. So I'm trying that right now. I know it's destroying my curl pattern but sometimes change is good, for a little while.
No it should still be as sweet. The brown sugar just adds a slightly richer flavor because it has molasses in it. Maybe just add a pinch more of the spices.
Great simple and quick recipe. Im just doing up a second batch as the first batch based on your video came out great - The only thing that I can not seem to get is the thickness, this batch I doubled the sauté time and it is still a little too thin for my liking, any ideas ? Perhaps too many apples?
Tried recipe but need advice - I weighed 4lbs Gala Apples, but only ended up with 2.5 pints of this delicious Apple Butter. Any idea what I did to end up with such a little volume? Please reply, thx so much!
@@HeartFilledHomemaking Thank you for your reply. I didn't think of that. I have the instant pot max which allows me to both Water bath and pressure can. Mine has high and low saute. Haste makes waste so I think I will try low. Again, new to your channel and enjoyed it very much. Hope to find more using your instant pot. Happy Thanksgiving.
You can store it in the freezer for up to a year before it starts affecting the flavor. Just store it in an airtight freezer container, leaving enough room for expansion.
Can the jars just sit on counter and let cool naturally and seal themselves? Skipping the boiling jars in water part? Assuming you fill them while everything is hot.
The food will be safe as long as it is canned and stored properly and the jar remains sealed. However, the quality of the food deteriorates the longer it is in storage, beyond a couple of years.
Can you use apples that are starting to soften? Wondering if I can salvage a bunch of apples we weren’t able to finish off while they were still super crisp. TIA
