Finally. Someone who has the same amount of scraps as I do. I see others with a drawerful and realize I make too many projects. But you can never have too much fabric!
Newbie to quilting. I finally made my 1st block. I think it turned out well. I have been watching videos for months now since I am self taught with UTube, lol. I have met some great people online that are very talented. I love your work so I subscribed ❤😊 I wanted to learn about scrap quilting because I don't have the funds for the high end precuts and or fabrics.
Love, love, love!!!!! Such beautiful saturated colours. I love using strips in improv quilts -- it makes for really interesting quilts. Thank you for another useful, informative tutorial.
Hi Claudia, I love the colors, I didn’t realize that Island batiks had such rich colors. I’ll have to check them out. Have a wonderful upcoming 4th of July. Thank you for sharing, 🥰 Chris
Chris- Thanks for stopping by and I hope you have a great 4th as well. Yes, Island Batiks have such incredible colors. I love the patterns they have too.
I saw your #6600 during your video, and I must say I have that machine and I love it.I also have the 7700 large opening for quilting but using the many wonderful stitches is a pain.but thumbs up for 6600.
Love this style of quilting. Don’t have to nest a lot 😂. I’m a beginner so I have a little bit of scraps. Need to go check out fabric sales and get 1/4-1/2 yards worth of different fabric. Love batiks a lot! Great tutorials.
OMG Claudia these are beautiful blocks and the quilt will be amazing. This is going to be my next project. I think I will be making smaller squares about 5 inch as most of my scraps are shorties, I know I'll have a ball making them. Thank you for your inspiration. ❣
I like this idea, I have SO many lovely Batiks, I think it is time to start cutting. Thank you for this video! I do like how you laid out your blocks, that will make a wonderful quilt!
With super tiny scraps I make pin cushions then stuff them with the unsewable trimmings from projects. I'm proudly a #notextilewaste sewist. Love improv style and your thoughtful process. I probably wouldn't cut until after pressing a pile ready. This style makes great placemats and drink coasters or mug rugs. Pop a few together for quilted doll blankets. 💕
What beautiful colours and patterns you get to play with; love those blocks. I see you have a MC6600 machine - I've had my MC6000 new from 1986, the last year of manufacture. It's still going strong and never had any problems with it 🤩
Great video. Wondering if you ever use washi tape to mark your 15” square at 9 1/2mark. I recently found this hack and it helps me. Scraps make me happy I am enjoying going thru your older ones
I’ve found my scrap bin overwhelmed triangle scraps. Most are leftovers from strip sets, and are the end cuts. Any ideas for making this menagerie of colors and patterns work together?
Good question. There are so many thing you can do with odds and ends scraps. You could combine like colors and make some fabric…depending on their sizes you could trim them down and make half square triangles…just to name a couple of things. Here’s a video I did of making yardage out of scraps: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-0-fHldW8Erc.html . Have fun! Thanks for watching!
Ms. Claudia, Sometimes it’s very hard to know which side is the face and which one is the back since the print looks the same. Any trick on knowing the right side from the back side ? TYIA
It can be tricky and honestly sometimes I don’t know. However I did this video some time ago and at about the 34 second mark I talk about ways that you can figure it out. I hope that helps and thanks for watching! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-sRfhCQ5bEWc.html
Good question…I put a hot pad type thing underneath it to protect the surface. I also only have that set up when I’m doing videos. Thanks for stopping by.
I need help, I have scraps and ideally want to make a scrap quilt. I have things sorted but I can’t seen to start. I get anxious then I’m too afraid to start and make a mistake. How can I let go and have fun. Can anyone help? 😢
There are so many scrap quilt patterns or you can make up your own. I don’t worry about making mistakes. Maybe try a test block and see how you like it. If you like it, try another. This block is improv so you really can’t make a mistake. Good luck and Happy Quilting!
Those blocks are too big for me to be just sewn together. I would make 4 HST from each 2 of them, and play with those to create the top. Thanks for doing the video.
You could also do the "3 Dudes" quilt pattern with them... l believe Jenny Doan did a youtube of this on her channel... it is my fav. pattern.... take 2 strip squares, as shown in this video, right sides together but have the strips on the top, going opposite...sew ALL the way around 1/4 inch... then cut diagonally in both directions....You end up with 4 smaller squares and a very interesting and intricate block. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-L5Ixvjje310.html
