Thx Douglas , I will be ordering up today! Love the tactile feel of the Simagic Shifter and now my wife can sleep whilst i’m on the sim rig. I will make sure to use synthetic grease. ✅

Remember it will definitely be a temporary solution. The single ball is still operating as it did in the video with around 1200 shifts but depending on how long you race, you might have to switch them out. Aabuddinc.net will be sending me some other rubber types to try out in the future. I will update the video if it works out.

Hey Douglas , Can you give an update on how long the rubber coated metal .43 ball mod worked until another ball was needed. Thank You ! @@DouglasThompson

Great and simple sound mod mate!😃👌

I am hoping the next test batch will be more durable but this is a quick fix for a night of racing I think. I am working with aabuddinc.net to provide some 10mm balls with a harder rubber coating. Hope that works out even better!

Man, this is quality, glad to see there's a solution. Now to fix the gear indicator matching up with in game and the shifter is pretty much perfect
@DouglasThompson
@DouglasThompson 2 года назад
Keep in mind this mod is not permanent, I will still keep working on thinking of ways to quiet it down but I am working with aabuddinc.net to maybe source some better suited rubber coated balls for this application. :)
@GorillaSnapper

If its something needs to be replaced every other month thats not really that big of a deal, certainly less painful than the wife shouting at you to be quiet 🤣
@DouglasThompson
@DouglasThompson 2 года назад
It's higher maintenance than that depending on your usage I suppose. How long are your sessions usually? How many times do you race per week/month?
@GorillaSnapper
@GorillaSnapper 2 года назад
@@DouglasThompson I drive 4 days a week usually between 1-4 hours a day pending family commitments. But im primarily a GT3 driver so the games in which I'd use a sequential shifter would be 10-15% of that
@DouglasThompson
@DouglasThompson 2 года назад
In that case this mod may last you longer than it would me. I haven't used the rubber up just yet. I will post a number when I get time to just click it till it dies. Lol

Alpha mini when? I'm still waiting on YOU to tell me which one of the two DDs to buy (in a future video).

I actually reached out to simracingpros.com to get an update but they haven't got back to me yet. Perhaps email Simagic or simracingpros and let them know you want me to do the comparison and they will ship it sooner! ;)

Hey are u still loving this shifter every time I look for one I fall to this one I think it looks awesome. It’s either this one or fanatec what do u think
@DouglasThompson
@DouglasThompson 2 года назад
What type of racing do you do? Yes this shifter is incredible.
@Simlife101
@Simlife101 2 года назад
@What The Fisch i have the fanatec shifter and the sequential is horrible. H PATTERN is ok but I just got the Simagic shifter off a friend and it feels way better. So unless you want H pattern go Simagic

We would love to see a follow up to this mate, has it stood the test of time or completely grounded down?
@DouglasThompson
@DouglasThompson 2 года назад
As I mentioned in the video, it's VERY temporary, maybe a couple to a few days of use. Good for a night of shifting if someone is sleeping. Basically the only way to truly quiet it down is to remove the spring and ball.
@Dual1969
@Dual1969 2 года назад
Hey Douglas , I’ve had absolutely no lock finding the same balls you used to quiet my sim magic sequential shifter. I’m up in Canada , any suggestions for me ?
@DouglasThompson
@DouglasThompson 2 года назад
Do you all participate in paintball up there? If so, that's all they are. Just rubber coated steel balls. Are you looking in stores or online?
@Dual1969
@Dual1969 2 года назад
@@DouglasThompson I been looking online , with no luck at all. The company that you used doesn't ship up to Canada. BTW how are things holding up after several months of use with your modded Sim Magic shifter ?
@DouglasThompson
@DouglasThompson 2 года назад
@@Dual1969 as I mentioned in the video You would have to replace the ball after a few days to a week depending on your usage. I have switched back to the normal ball because I never really worried about sound. I came up with this mod as a solution for somebody else that owns this shifter. :) I have extras, of course and I can get a hold of them but I don't know if it'd be worth it for you and I shipping wise for me to ship it to you especially because this is not a permanent solution it's a temporary one so you would need kind of a steady stream of these if you're a heavy Sim racer and you race a lot.

It looks like this shifter is close in price to the prosim PSL sequential shifter. Can I ask why you chose Simmagic over it? Trying to decide between the two.
@DouglasThompson
@DouglasThompson 2 года назад
I will look into the psl...if I had known there was a ProSim sequential around this price I might have chosen that over this. But I did establish a connection with Simagic through the purchase so it worked out I suppose. :)

@@DouglasThompson thank you
@DouglasThompson
@DouglasThompson 2 года назад
@@toolanddie9789 ahh I see. The price of the ProSim more matches the current price of the Simagic. Keep in mind when this shifter came out it was priced at like 330 dollars shipped. They raised the price supposedly due to increased shipping costs but they did something similar with the Simagic Alpha mini as part of an early adopter incentive. I think it's more likely they wanted to have a cheaper shifter to get a bunch in people's hands so it would be a no brainer over other sequentials and after enough people bought them and reviewed them they bumped the prices up to the amount they wanted to sell for originally. Just my theory, they did not confirm this or anything.

@Topl and Die the pro sim us a lot more in my country the UK. Also my friend has it and I think it feels horrible. Clinky sounding but the simagic with the buttons all lit up and the feel is way better imo

Is there a follow up on this?
@DouglasThompson
@DouglasThompson Год назад
Basically from my testing it doesn't last long, that's why I suggested it's only for a night of use or so if you need to be quiet.
@AmirPomen

Up next: softer detent spring 😁 Also i wonder what if u put a silicone vaccum hose as a sleeve onto the fork mechanism
@DouglasThompson
@DouglasThompson 2 года назад
I actually already tried the softer detent spring. Was quieter but there needs to be a minimum amount of tension in order to center the cog wheel thing effectively. It won't rotate at all if there isn't enough spring tension. I can't think of what you mean by fork mechanism.
@DouglasThompson
@DouglasThompson 2 года назад
I also tried a solid steel ball with chrome finish and the shifts felt a bit gritty. Not in a pleasant way. Sort of a grinding excessive wear kind of way. I can see some people preferring it but I will stick with the delrin plastic ball.
@AmirPomen
@AmirPomen 2 года назад
@@DouglasThompson the rotating gear/cog have a little shaft extended on each peak of it... As u shown in the vid @4:48 Try put small silicone hose on the shaft as dampening sleeve.. Or heat shrink tubing on it... (Thinner)
@DouglasThompson
@DouglasThompson 2 года назад
That's what I thought you might have meant. There is not enough room to add any material there and still have the teeth engage properly I don't think... Also to be clear the click sound you hear after the initial pull is the spring loaded teeth popping back up. Only a very small fraction of the noise would be from the cog wheel thing. So the ball snapping in place is the loudest noise, second loudest would be the teeth popping back up and the last main noise would be the hard stop on the shifter shaft.
