If this helps...........when I went thru my cold turkey withdrawal from a 3 year daily high dose opiod addiction.....I had to fight SMALL battles to make it thru. I taped a piece of paper to the wall of my apartment and I made a mark on it for every hour that I stayed sober. eventually I had enough marks on the wall that when those demons tugged at me to cave in....I couldnt! I couldnt cheat my earlier self who decided to get clean by caving in to the torture of detox. as far as work is concerned....thats a tough one! I took 4 days off but on day 5 when I had no choice but to get back to work....it WAS difficult! You are right Ryan.....you just have to gut it out! And in a weird way....being at work....being FORCED to concentrate on tasks helps. It beats sitting at home feeling like crap and fighting the urge to cave in. Everyone....keep fighting those small battles till the big war is over! FREEDOM is worth the fight!!

I'm not a very religious person or anything ,but one time I was very dopesick and had to dig in the cold weather for hours at work. I focused on prayer asking for the strength to make it through the day. That's all I thought about and instantly I felt like God was there helping me. Giving me the strength and mental resolve to get through the workday. The day went fast and nothing hurt . I have been dopesick and in the same situation many times since then, but I was never able to pray and feel that feeling again even though I've tried. was he really with me ? It felt real . The point is that our minds are in fact very powerful like Ryan says. Whether it was God or me just gearing myself up. It definately worked. I'm a believer so I'd like to think it was God.

Ryan brother, there was a time when I was right there in your shoes. Able to push through the detox and handle biz. When I crossed the 20 year line of opiate addiction and the drug runs became 5-8 years a piece things became impossible to cope with, even with meds like Suboxone. I love your videos and they're great for newb or chipper who uses for short periods of time. I hope they catch these videos and read my message, take your advice and tuff it out before it gets brutal. I'm day 3 off of a 5 year run again where I only had about 60 days clean last time and was going in a 8 year run then. Pray for me

Alfonso Contreras-- Are you clean now, brother? On drug replacement therapy, like me? MAT (Medical Assisted Treatment) is the only way for most of us who've been on stuff for many years. The relapse rate of the rest, including the 12 step folks is over 90 %. Even though this is an 3 year old post, I will pray for you, please do the same for me. Lord Bless You with Peace.

This Suboxone is a real son of a bitch to get off. I was forced to kick when I was put in jail for violating probation. I took 8mg a day for 1 year. I didnt feel withdrawal until day 3 then it didnt go away at all until at least day 12. The night of day 12 I got my first hour of sleep and after that night it got progressively easier.

I am a mechanic for like 30 years and have done the w/d's from opiates and I believe every addict should have a low strength pill as an insurance policy plus many fluids on hand to keep there body right because I have soaked clothes and they were so soaked with sweat that I rang them out. This usually means one can die if fluids aren't constantly being introduced into your system.

one thing that helped me a lot.. and this may not be great advice but it worked for me.. id lie to myself.. id tell myself, "just make it through the work day and you can get something when you get off".. then id get off and say "just wait til tomorrow morning" and so on and so forth.. set little goals of time for yourself. like say you wanna make it through just the next hour if you have to. the one day at a time thing people preach is absolitely true.. one day at a time. one minute at a time if you have to. start small and slowly work your way up!

This kindly man who was trying to help people, must've had a VERY light habit..."A couple of days?" My dope sickness is still building at day 8 and up. I've never outlasted a period of withdrawal. It is a TINY % of people who can do that. But his voice reached those that it could help. I'm kind of surprised there are not more remarks like ours. Maybe they think it would be disrespectful? It's not. Just different, much tougher withdrawal for people with long, serious habits, that's all. Hope you are well.

But this guy was good. He knew that he was treating my pain PLUS my addiction and gave me the appropriate amount (2013)...430 mg./day. The pharmacy at CVS would cluck their tongues in disapproval. I wish and pray you stay Well, brother.

Thanks for the video. It is very inspirational yet I still find it hard to wrap my mind around going through withdrawal without missing work. In my particular situation, I work in an office at a desk the whole day. With how bad restlessness gets it would be impossible to sit still and function enough mentally to complete my daily tasks. I've been an opiate addict for almost 10yrs and went through the hell of withdrawals too many times to count. If I'm able to hold a job long enough, I use fmla and go to rehab to kick and return back to work weeks later. In my current situation that isn't an option and I've exhausted all my time off. I had to miss today because I couldn't pull myself out of bed to make it in. I guess everyone is different, some mentally stronger than others. I've always thought of myself as a mentally strong individual but when I hear stories like yours it makes me reevaluate myself. I have a family to feed and a house to try to keep and yet that still can't motivate me enough to make it in to work. I am very worried about how this is going to turn out. I'm on day 2 and really plan on making it to the other side and staying there. I feel like even if I lose my job, that my recovery should come first. That also seems selfish having children that rely on me to provide but I'm just out of options. I've hit rock bottom and been here for some time. The depression for the last year or so has been overwhelming. Throughout my years of opiate addiction I've came to find out that the mental agony is far worse than the acute physical pain when you decide to kick. The worse your addiction becomes, the worse the mentally pain gets. Life has to get better than this. God bless all addicts out here struggling. This is true hell on earth.

Thanks for posting your experiences and you’re 100% right, you just have to “tough it out”. My withdrawal symptoms came after I stopped using Norspan patches (Buprenorphine) for a chronic back issue. After recently successfully undergoing L2-3 and L3-4 nerve root decompression, I no longer required Norspan and titrated down from 20mg to 5MG patches and off, the 2-3 week he’ll-ride with withdrawals running the show was tough, all the classic opioid type withdrawals- I’m sure these were not as bad as what a person withdrawing from traditional opioids would experience -but it was similar and not easy - but you can get through it. Be sure to have the support of your family and friends and even your workplace if possible. Time and your own shear force of will are your true friends here, one day, one week, one month at a time.

The drug isn't STUPID if your taking it for chronic pain just to get thru the day. If you don't really need it,then you shouldn't be taking it. This is what ruins it for the people who really need it! I'm suffering bcuz people who abuse the drugs are dying! Now doctors are so afraid to prescribe any pain meds! Oh my God Manny your a young man! I'm 60 years old but don't feel or look it but if you are worried that you have lost half of your good years you haven't you have a long way to enjoy your life ahead of you. I have used heroin for 25years and I feel bad about it but it allowed me to put up with the crap and rotten personalities I had to deal with at work.If I would have quit and went back to sea in the Merchant Marines I would have never been able to retire, by sticking it out I am now retired with a good pension and I just need to stop the opiates now. I thought when I stopped working it would be easy to do but with more time now it proved to actually be harder. I appreciate this video and all of your comments,I don't feel so alone and they give me strength and the will to try again.I will try to stick with it this time and not give up after a couple of days. I want my life back and am tired of not being able to go anywhere and always worrying about going into withdrawal.Thank you for your comment Manny,Sincerely Vince

A positive attitude and overcoming the fear and anxiety of WD is so important, it can make or break this process. You have to stay mentally strong and keep reminding yourself it won't last forever. I agree, if you have the chance try to taper off for a few days before your days off then go cold turkey on your weekend. This probably sounds crazy but I used to tell myself that I just had a really bad stomach virus and it would be over in a few days and it worked to relieve some of the anxiety and made it easier to cope with, I didn't seem to focus on the WD symptoms as much because I knew it was just temporary. Probably sounds crazy but the mind is very powerful and reacts subconsciously to the power of suggestion. Hope this helps.

so, maybe 2 weeks ago I tapered pretty quickly down to one mg using the strips, was getting the 5 hours of sleep a night thing, but doing ok. as I was awaiting detox, I did 4 subutex in a week's time. I then went into detox, given Librium and clonidine once at night to sleep and was very comfortable After detox. I didn't take Librium for 4 days, and still felt very good. was given 50 mg at a time, at most 3 times a day during the 5 day detox. clonidine once a night, I didn't want the daytime dose, and took a few Imodium. then in rehab I was given dioxepin and clonidine once at night for sleep and it worked great. im on day 9 and feeling very good all things considered. only withdrawal I've had is the low energy and lack of motivation, and a few bouts of some heavy sneezes, which is why I left rehab today. I want to sleep it through if I can, and its hard there. Came home and slept 4 hours and felt good. that's all I want is to sleep because I expected NONE, and the days in the rehab dragged, so I left on my fourth day. Any criticism on that is deserved, I know. but one of my issues is certainly with social situations. I wanna be active at certain times, when I get those little happy bursts. And its hard there with so many groups and so much downtime. I admit, I am not comfortable in rehab. I realllllllllly want to be off sub, so so badly. 9 days is the longest in 8 years, an eternity. any input would be appreciated. also, what's the max I would wanna take clonidine/doxepin as needed for sleep, because the very last thing I wanna do is have to be hooked on that stuff. I know i'll having paws, ive been on sub for ten years. but 9 days with the meds ive been given, should I be feeling this good? is this riding out the worst of the sub withdrawals, maybe the same way sub helps the oxy/dope withdrawals? Is the worst to come because of the half life? my mood have been about 70% good, 30% bad. Detox was great, but don't like the rehab, also because i'm the only one coming off a ten year sub dependence as some patient were being put on maintenece intensive outpatient my best bet as well? Please help me with any advice you can. Thank you.

I had a surgery a month ago and was sent home with oxycodone. 30 days after, my surgeon got me off the oxy cold turkey and suggested Tramadol for pain. Luckily I came across this channel and didn’t dare taking Tramadol at all but I’m feeling miserable I guess because of the oxy. This is day 4 and still feel like crap. What I don’t get while on oxy, I always thought that I had a flu. Weeks later I’m realizing those were withdrawals? Anyways, I’m trying my best to stay positive during this painful adventure. I’m scheduled to go back to work next week and I hope that by then my withdrawals are gone. Any thoughts?
