How to make Jiffy Pop Style Popcorn without Burning It

In order to avoid buring the popcorn, reduce the heat....brilliant!

This reminds me of the movie Scream

My grandmother gave me my first Jiffy Pop Popcorn for Christmas in 1960 when I was 7 years old, and from that time forward until she passed away in 1972, my two sisters and I got Jiffy Pop every year as a Christmas gift from my grandmother. In memory of my grandmother, my mother continued the tradition until she passed away in 1985. We always cooked our Jiffy Pop on a gas range with a low flame, and even as a child cooking it, I never burned it. Unlike in your video, I always kept the Jiffy Pop moving on the burner and NEVER let it just sit there, not even for a second. Everyone that I have ever talked to who said that they always burned their Jiffy Pop were using electric ranges. Electric ranges are notorious for burning food. As an adult, I owned an electric range for a few months once and absolutely hated it. Once you have cooked with gas, you will never be happy with an electric range. Gas gives you immediate control. Electric does not. There is a reason that all of your high end ranges and cook tops like Wolf and Viking are gas, and why virtually all restaurants use gas for cooking. Electric ranges are simply inferior to gas ranges. As sad as it is, I can totally understand the need for a RU-vid video on how to pop Jiffy Pop on an electric range without burning it up. It really isn't that difficult on a gas range, even if you are 7 years old. Hell, I have even popped Jiffy Pop as a child on my grandmother's wood stove, and it also came out perfect.

I use a gas stove and hold the jiffy pop above the flame. Almost every kernel pops and no burn. Another way is to place a cast iron skillet on the gas stove, let that heat up and place the jiffy pop on it.

Followed what you said to do any not much of it popped at all and while I was waiting for more to pop it started burning. But I did exactly what you said. I may have gotten a defective one. Cause when I opened it, it seemed there wasn’t very many kernels to begin with.

HA HA HA! I just tried this the other day. I shook it like it says and the handle started coming off. My result was burned popcorn and about half were unpopped. I should stick to air popped maybe?

Mine burnt. It started off all good but then the pooping process was slow and the foil wasn't expanding. I think the hole on top was letting too much steam out. Thanks for the video.

I know everyone has their way of making it. So, I can't really fault the uploader. As long as he's happy... Just letting it sit there, with medium heat though? I'll agree that high heat makes it cook WAY too fast, and usually burns it at the bottom. You will ALWAYS get unpopped kernels. No way around it. But, there's a happy medium. I've found, after doing this quite a few times... the best setting (for me), on an electric range is when the dial is set just barely under 7. I don't wait for it to preheat. Pull the cover off, sit it on top of the burner. Wait till it starts sizzling, and then.... don't stop shaking (in every direction) until it's done. Low heat is just as bad as high heat, in that the kernels don't pop fully. And the longer it's on the stove, the more the kernels will shrink. When my tin is done, the foil is practically busting out of it. No kidding. But, this is MY stove, in MY kitchen. So... results may vary. JiffyPop is BY FAR, superior to any microwave brand out there. Microwaves are for convenience. You wouldn't cook a steak in a microwave, would you? The same holds true for pop corn. The microwave sucks the life out of it. The moment I tasted JiffyPop was the last time I ever attempted to throw a bag of corn into the micro. No comparison.

Still being sold. 2023. No microwave so came here just out of curiosity.

Good rule is if you are hearing kernels pop 15-20 seconds apart it's time to pull it.

Definitely good to know in the zombie apocalypse LOL. But no joke I've burned many a popcorn and in the zombie apocalypse that's not good. Duly noted. I have not seen a Jiffy Pop popcorn maker in decades. May have to find one to show my daughter. She'll be laughing at me. But I bet it taste better.
