So if any young woman ladies out there an read my comment! An your mom 👵🏼 is still with you 🙏🏽pay attention no matter how old you are🙏🏽
Made them for the first time last year in memory of my hermana who I lost last year to covid. She made them every year. Will try this recipe . Gracias.
Your tamales look delicious ,I make mine using fresh masa . You should have mentioned , that you can freeze them raw , a dozen at a time and store them in a gallon size freezer baggie . So when you feel like eating tamales , just steam them frozen , it will take longer to cook , maybe a half hour more. They will taste like you just made them that day .😋
question... i want to use fresh masa but how do i prepare it... I want to be sure that what i put on it is what i want and it is just right. any tips? thanks
Man, I didn't realize so much love and magic went into making these delicious red creations. Makes me appreciate them even more when I gobble them down.
I made these with my daughter for Christmas. I used to be part of the family tamale assembly line as a child, but this was my first time making tamales from beginning to end on my own. I am half Mexican (the half that has my heart!), but due to family situations the recipes did not always come down the line. My mom was so pleased that I was making them and my daughter told me that the house smelled like Christmas when she woke up and the corn masa was in the air. We were so happy we made another batch for New Year's Day! Thank you so much for sharing your talent and recipes. You have helped me restore a family tradition.
I'm now salivating! I hope mines come out good... this will be my 1st time making this. I now have even more respect for the culture, there's a lot of time and love in each tamale made!
Thank you for your well explained and easy to follow recipe! My love for Mexican food makes me feel like I've been a Mexican in a past life! Than you for your recipes! 💖💖💖
Making them with my grandma and mom, grandma always added one penny to the bottom of the steamer. If you hear the penny rattle, you know that there is plenty of water. If you don't hear a rattle, it means it's getting dry, and time to add water. I make these every year for family and friends! Thanks for your tips!
I was wondering how I'd know since you cant see the bottom. I think I'll see how many cups of water it takes to keep it Under the steamer thingy so they dont get wet. Maybe I'll add a quarter for inflation 😉 Hahaha 😂
Your video inspired me to try making tamales for the first time and they turned out excellent. I live overseas and we have no Mexican Food here, so this was exactly what we needed. Thank you.
Hello, beautiful ~ Thank you for taking the time to make these tamales with all of us. Thank you for teaching an old guy like me how to make them. I miss my Grandmother's, my Mother's tamales... I always helped, I cooked the meat, but never made the masa. Thank you so very much! I'm making these right now!! I'll definitely let you know how the came out! Thank you, once again. Bendiciones, Senorita. ❤Rosana ❤
@@VillaCocina OMG!!! I have to honest... I was scared to make the masa, I started making tacos w the meat right away... So, I had tacos 1st, then tamales! Soooooo delicious!!! I subscribed, and now, I'm here to stay. God bless your day!
We add a black olive in the middle and extra sauce on top. Just one of our favorite things to eat . sweet tamales for Christmas .. Yum thanks for sharing......
This is a delicious recipe, meat and sauce is extremely flavorful. I added more salt to the Masa for my liking. Thank u for explaining everything so well, your instructions are so helpful and educational. I'm so excited to try more of your recepies.
After watching several tamale-making videos, this one by far is the best demonstration I've seen. Thank you so much for this video! I'm not so intimidated now to try making these for my first time. I'm doing this by myself and have already prepared the meat in the sauce one day ahead. It was important for me to find a video that showed the consistency of the meat in the sauce (how thick or watery) and of the masa and I found it in this video. I'm very much a visual learner. Today I'll be making the masa and fill the husks ready for cooking thanks to your video. Merry Christmas and Feliz Navidad!
@@VillaCocina Oh my God, the Tamales turned out so amazing. They are the best I've ever had. Thank you so much. I'm so happy with the way they turned out. 🙏😎😻
7:02 Oooohhhh just like Mama use to make. Is it Navidad ? One year she tried an easier by replacing the corn husk leaves with aluminum foil, of course it turned out dried, but Mama worked hard for many years. And Papa always made his Bacalao ..
I love your videos! I appreciate you for taking your time in explaining in a way I can understand on how to make it. Your recipe is delicious! I am now making my second batch of tamales! I like to have sauces to go with the tamales and notice you posted 2 videos of sauces. Which one do you suggest to go with this tamales or do you have another video specific to "how to make tamale sauces"? Thanks in advance!
Hi there, I actually made three recipes with different sauces for tamales: Green, red and mole. The mole recipes, although a bit more time consuming does have additional sauce for plate up. Let me know if this helps.
I appreciate your how to video so much! I miss me some authentic tamales! So I decided to learn how to make my own!!! My friends back home would be so proud! Thank you so much! 😊😘
We made tamales for the 1st time last December using this recipe and they were so DELICIOUS that we're going to make them again. We are actually going to the grocery store today to get all of the ingredients. Can't wait to eat them lol. 😁
I really learned how to roll tamales better from this video. I would just use a damp towel as opposed to the plastic bag. Love to you and yours, and continued success on your RU-vid venture
It’s difficult to find a good tamale on the east coast. I saw this post a while back, but I have finally gotten all of my ingredients together. The meat is cooking now and the smell is making everyone hungry now. Will update later on how we liked them.
I found your video after a second partially failed attempt at tamales for my husband. I have gotten the flavor very close, but something not quite right with the masa. These look amazing and I can't wait to try your recipe
Hello, I just found your channel and am so happy that I did. You certainly are the best. I have a question. When it comes to the product you use for the flour you use for the dough, do you use Maseca for tamales, or just plain maseca. I have purchased two bags of the Maseca for tamales. I hope I picked the right item. Please let me know. Thank you, because I am so ready to embark on my adventures of cooking all kinds of your Mexican recipes. ❤
Love this and thanks so much for the tutorial, they look so good! Gotta say though that I don’t understand why anyone puts a plastic grocery sack to heat and steam with food, too many toxins in that plastic sack leaching into your food! I’m sure it’d work fine with just some more husks laid on top?
A bit off the subject, but what is the difference between the chipotle peppers that are readily available dried. I can find the reddish colored dried and sometimes the tannish colored, wrinkled ones if I go to a mercado. As I understand it, chipotle peppers are jalapeno peppers that have been smoked.???
How much lard do you need? I also really spicy. Should I add one or two more chile de árbol? Nomas quiero que me salgan a todo dar! Su chThank you for your response.. You need to write a book kid, you stuff is greT! You have all of my support for sure! Thank you in advance for your response! Cheers and Bravo! ❤🎉❤
Can I make the pork in a crock pot? If I do, would I brown them then move them to the crock pot with the liquid and seasonings? Would it take 2.5 hrs or more?
This is amazing thank you so much for sharing!! Maybe DO NOT use a plastic bag 😅 heating up plastic can release toxic fumes. Maybe a cheese cloth would be safer
I went to your link for the masa recommendation but it sends an error notice. Your other suggestion which is your favorite masa is not instant, King Arthur. I would like to know the correct and best one to use, please. TIA
@@VillaCocina yes that would be awesome! I’ve been looking for recipes! I made the chicken green chili ones you did a video on and my family loved them!
I made these for the first time on Christmas Eve with my sisters. We made about 130 tamales which took us about 6 hours since it was only 3 of us preparing them. We made small balls of masa and used a tortillera to spread the masa on the corn husk. They turned out amazing! I definitely recommend this recipe. Thank you!
Tamales are one of my favorite foods, so I had to try to make them- I just can't find them in enough restaurants. Your recipe is fantastic. My whole family enjoyed them. And your video demonstration with your verbal instruction was perfect. Thank you so much!!
These tamales are so good!! The taste is just right. They’re soft and tasty. They’re not greasy nor tough and dry. The sweet taste of the Ancho Chile was new to us but it was still good. You must try these tamales!!!
I grew up with the tamale tradition every holiday with my family and relatives. I live in a different city now and made them for the first time by MYSELF. It is a very long and exhausting process (no wonder we always had about 10 of us helping!). Homemade is totally worth it and so much better than store bought. Can't wait to make tamales this Christmas!
I live in Texas and my family normally buys tamales at Christmas. I'm gonna surprise them this year with these! Thank you so much for making these videos, I love to learn new recipes.
Rowdy that’s awesome to hear you will love making them have help it will go faster. If u have a HEB in ur area they have ready made masa to make ur own homemade Tamales spicy or regular just spread it on ur husks n fill with meat of ur choice : Beef pork refried beans chicken. Make meat ahead of time soak husks day of making them just assemble have fun enjoy great Tamales 🫔🫔🫔🫔
I’m Canadian and have never had tamales. I saw corn husks at my local exotic foods store and I’m going to go back to buy some. I can’t wait to try my first tamale!
Oh my goodness! This was my first time making Tamales, and they were amazing! I was always intimidated by the process, but your step by step instructions were awesome! Thank you for sharing your recipe. This is now a family favorite 💜🫔💜
Years ago when my family was struggling with having enough food I would make these. When I was 15 my hispanic neighbors showed me how to make them with any meat type. 3 adults and 5 kids all boys tamales helped us get through scarcity. Only difference is we used ancho chilies and red ones . Would end up making like 300 at a time but we would freeze the extras . Am thankful for the knowledge they passed an we all still love homemade tamales!
I made this recipe yesterday am very pleased with the results. To get more corn flavor from the masa I added about a cup of frozen corn finely ground in the food processor. It really added some sweet corn flavor to the tamales that was missing from the last batch I made.
I’ve tried before and absolutely ruined them in the cooking process. This Irish ☘️ girl is gonna try this again. Thank you for the step by step. I’m a fan of yours, for sure. Many Blessings!!!
BUMMER! I spent two days on my batch, and I would have been ABSOLUTELY HEARTBROKEN if I ruined them. Do you know what you did wrong? I cooked mine in an electric pressure cooker for 30 minutes with a 10 minute natural steam release. No matter how you cook them they need to sit and cool so the lard/masa 'sets'.
thank you very much for sharing your recioe!! the best in the west. im Asian and ppl who tasted it said" you cook like a legitimate Mexican. LOL!!! Very yummy!!!
My wife (an excellent cook of several "world cuisines") had never made these before but did this weekend. She knows how much I like them and was a bit hesitant at the daunting task to say the least. Well, if I could upload the picture she took of the first one she "broke" in half like you do at the start of your Lesson, I know you'd be proud. They are the best I've ever tasted and she is so happy with them, too, (she's never been a big fan of Mexican cuisine, actually) she is promising to make them as our Neighborhood-Christmas-gifts next year! Bravo, Rossana! (Today she's going to make your Mexican Rice to go with the leftovers that we aren't freezing for later).
Trying to do Thanksgiving different this year throwing out the traditional Turkey dinners and going back to my roots 🇲🇽 definitely will be using your channel for inspiration to our dinner 🥰
I made them today. I’m so tired…..What an AMAZING VIDEO. You made this first experience making them so helpful and insightful. I felt you were right here in Seattle with me. I’m so grateful ♥️ I can’t taste until steaming is over. But I already sampled the pork! Delicious
