Good morning just watching your video there that looks good for a big quilt or a lap quilt i guess how many stitches would you add on and i have Caron cakes just wondering how many cakes i need thanks for you video from Newfoundland Canada
@AmandaCrochets
@AmandaCrochets 5 лет назад
Beverley Simmons you would have to experiment with different chains to see what width works for you. You will need to make a chain of a multiple of 3. When you’re satisfied with your width, you will add 2 more chains to the end to keep things in balance. I used 4 cakes for my baby blanket so the bigger the blanket the more cakes you’ll need.

How many initial chains do you need to make for a twin size blanket or even a throw blanket?
@-SaltyChipGuy
@-SaltyChipGuy 5 лет назад
Just started one, I'd say 124 minimum with a 5mm hook.
@AmandaCrochets
@AmandaCrochets 5 лет назад
You would have to experiment to see what size works best for you. You can do this by chaining a multiple of 3 until your desired length and add 2 more to the end. You can try making a chain of 176 (174+2) and see if that size works for you. Good luck!

I need help with the sc border along the sides. It's easy on the top and bottom but the sides are wonky to stitch into and doesn't look straight as I go along.
@AmandaCrochets
@AmandaCrochets 3 года назад
It can be a little tricky to work along the sides of your blanket. The best advice I can give is to eyeball it and try and make the sides as even as possible. There's not an exact science to it unfortunately. Just take your time and it should work out. Good luck!

Oh no! I hope you can reply soon I'm super new and on the first row you don't say if you chain 1 after the double crochet or if you just start the next double? Seems to work without chaining one but all the other stitches I've learned chain one as the last part of thier double. I want to make a thick blinket with very little holes, and this looks great I know it depends on a lot of things but hoping I dont mess up the whole stich if I start off wrong...
@AmandaCrochets
@AmandaCrochets 3 года назад
Hello! After you finish each row, you will make a chain 1 and turn your work. You do not chain 1 in between the stitches or after you've made your double crochet stitch. I have a few other waffle stitch projects on my channel if you're interested in checking those out too. Maybe they're a little easier to understand. I have a waffle stitch scarf and a waffle stitch dishcloth. They both use the same technique as you would for a blanket. Good luck!

Would the pattern still turn out okay if I used an H or J hook?? I left my I hook at home and I’m at college right now, wanting to try to get a blanket done for my brother for Christmas 😭
@AmandaCrochets
@AmandaCrochets 3 года назад
I don't see why not! You could always practice and see which hook you like better. If you use an H hook, your stitches may come out a little tighter whereas a J hook might come out a little more loose. It's all up to you though as you can totally use what you prefer :)

I have an overstock of Red Heart Super Saver, Medium 4, 100% acrylic yarn. I started crocheting the waffle stitch with the goal of an afghan for my husband. I finished six rows when he came to take a look and he loved it - until he felt it and said it wasn't soft enough. So, what else can I use this yarn for? the color is beautiful but it is a bit short of soft.
@AmandaCrochets
@AmandaCrochets 4 года назад
You can still use Super Saver for this pattern. If you wash that yarn, it actually comes out a little softer. You can always put a full skein in a garment bag and wash it and see how it softens up before you scrap your blanket.

How come different waffle stitches instructions both video and written all have you chain a different starting amount. The written I have says just an even amount but that’s not working out well and then I saw one that said multiples of 3 add 3
@AmandaCrochets
@AmandaCrochets 3 года назад
Everyone has their own version of how to make this waffle stitch. There are also many different ways to make different crochet stitches. This is just worked for me. I've only known to chain a multiple of 3+2. I'm sorry it's not working out for you. I wish you the best of luck! I just came out with a waffle dishcloth video, so maybe that will help.
