One of your bag dudes here. As you can imagine, I make bags that are utilitarian in nature. Bags and cases to carry important electronic equipment, or safeguard something fragile and irreplaceable. I've been looking for a perfect pattern to make a travel case for my JBL Charge3 bluetooth speaker. This will fit the bill, although the dimensions are almost too tight. And I'll have to make it with a nice durable zipper. I"m a guy. We sometimes like overkill. When I told my ailing mother last year that I wanted to learn how to use a sewing machine, she suggested quilting, and bag making. I figured bags are utilitarian in nature. Sometimes, guys hate to admit it, but we do carry some form of purse. We call it a messenger bag, back pack, man bag, man purse or Murse. It doesn't matter to me. I've carried some kind of bag with my stuff in it since I was in the military. Old habits are hard to break. I've learned so much from watching and following along with your patterns. Thanks for all of your great tutorials.
Thank-you for such a detailed video. Great instructions! I love the way you not only give helpful hints, but also explain why they are important. I noticed you also remind the person watching to re-set the stitch size. Keep up the great work. From the video of your hands and your voice, you are young, but with lots of knowledge about sewing. A great video for beginners and those of us with gray hair.
By far, you give the best tutorials I've ever seen Sara! Love watching you sew!! You are very inspirational and look forward to all your creations! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks so much for the tutorial. It is so helpful to see it in "the flesh" as opposed to just on paper. Your instructions are very clear and make it seem so easy. I always wondered how certain things are done and how you figured out all the steps is impressive. Thanks again.
Hi, thank you for great bag tutorials & making your patterns available to us for free. You are concise & to the point. I appreciate you giving the stitch lengths you used. Kudos to your videographer; they are very good.
That was an amazing video. I've been doing quilting but I wanted to start doing bags And pouches And I found your channel and I am so lucky You explained everything so beautifully. Thank you
I am inspired to make a box pouch now. Your fabrics and zipper are refreshing and cause me to smile as I follow along. Thank you for an enjoyable project. You are a very good instructor.
Hey there from a bag dude just learning how to make a bag. Thanks for your videos they are helping me a lot. Your a good teacher in your tutorials. You make me want to learn more. Keep up the great work.
Sara, you give fantastic tutorials for us to sew along with! I haven't made a box pouch but am certainly going to try this. Clear concise instructions for every step, perfectly focused photography make you a very classy professional teacher! X
Just discovered your tutorial. Presented so well and such a lovely voice. And just the boxy bag I've been looking for. You make it look so easy - hope I do justice by your pattern and instructions. Thank you for being so generous via the pattern and SVG. Look forward to more of your tutorials. Thank you again.
Thanks sarah for this excellent tutorial. I just finished my first one and gave it to my friend for her birthday. The lace zipper adds such a feminine touch. She absolutely loved it! I appreciate all your great videos, patterns and information. 💕🧵✂️
Thank you for including in your download that all measurements are width X height. Almost no one does that and it is incredibly helpful to me. This is such a great project! I loved the video tutorial as well.
A great tutorial. Thanks for your presentation. I made one with raw seams inside but wasn’t happy with it. Looks like I will be happy with my next one.
Love your demonstrations by far the best on you tube also great you let us have patterns I have always made separate linings for box pouches so an inavative way of attaching linings thanks again
I so need to make one , but may need it longer in length :) My sister needs a knitting needle bag . I love this design and the ease of the sew out. Now to go on a zipper search. I have the cutest pink kitty and yarn ball fabric. Hope my pink zippers are long enough!
Hi Sara - Awesome tutorial. I actually have those zippers and have used them in simple projects. Thanks for explaining how to sew them into a complex bag. I made a box pouch a few years ago and wish I had your tutorial back then. It would have been so much easier. Now that I have watched you make it, next one will be a lot better. I am going to use the soft and stable foam to my next one as well. It gives the bag a great shape looking at your bag. Great job. PS - I am a proud bag lady! 😊🧵
I am SEW happy I found your video Sara! I was wondering what unique hand made gift I could give my sewing/quilting friends and this bag is just PERFECT! I also have an embroidery machine, so I am going to experiment with adding machine embroidered designs to the side of the bag! Happy Thanksgiving!
I struggled with boxing the corners and sewing over the handle. Finally had to hand sew bits of it by hand because I kept breaking needles. But the project turned out well in the end.
Genius! I have made box pouches before, but your method is WAY easier and I think will be a better finished product than those I have previously made. And for all of the bag dudes, wouldn't this be great in a manly fabric like camo or denim to be used for a shaving kit? Thinking about getting a head start on Christmas gifts for family members with toiletries included. Thank you Sara, for another great pattern.
At about 19:37 in the video, and in the pattern step 8 second paragraph -- I think I will sew the ends of the lining fabric together first and then sew the lining and exterior fabric all the way across. It should have the same result but be a bit easier to handle.
hi Sarah, just a little message to say a massive thank you for all of your tutorials, they are so easy to follow and you have so much patience... quick question, can you tell me what you are using as your ironing/pressing mat? it looks great quality and easy to use. thank you again, from sunny England ;-]
Could you sew all the way across the lining at the boxed end before sewing to the outer and then do the shorter seam when attaching them instead of those very short seams on the lining?
HI. I'm a new subscriber and I'm new to sewing. I want to make bags, and find your tutorials very helpful. My sewing machine struggles with heavier fabrics and seams. What kind/model machine do you use?
