Please Note: Sand contains silica which is dangerous to breathe in so make sure you use a N95 rated mask as a minimum. A much safer option you can buy proper sandblasting media (from Bunnings) which does not contain silica but you will still need to use a mask as the paint and dust are still dangerous to breathe in.

Cement mixer and a gas heater blowing into it for drying sand. Used to use this when paving to get dry sand to go between pavers👍

If the bucket of sand is elevated and the hose goes through the side of the bucket, it sorta mimics a gravity hopper and blaster gun performance will improve. Siphon blast guns are a pain and their performance can be enhanced, Kudos to Sir Issac Newton for discovering gravity.

KBS is also a very reliable and high quality coating for doing chassis.

Steel and iron produce slag the is skimmed off. It is ground into sand size bits and sold in the US States in home improvement stores for cheap. It is sharp with jagged edges and reusable. Take 3/4” (19mm) metal electrical conduit, cut and weld a square frame to fit a large bucket. Use heavy pet safe screen for doors, stretch and tape temporarily and cut to get a full wrap. Using PVC pipe of 1” (25.4mm), cut it down the middle with wood working tools and cut just over the half way point. It will clip over the conduit-screen strainer to clean sticks, chunks and general debris to be used again because I am comfortable broke, this works. Placing a sheet of plastic on the ground make recovery much easier. For the pickup tube, it works much better if time goes into two tubes of metal conduit the fit your suction hose. The inlet side is 1” (25.4mm) shorter than the hose side. Place them about 7/16” (11mm) apart, equal at the bottom. Mark and drill a hole connecting the tubes at the bottom and solder in a 3/4” (19mm) metal fuel line. Close the end of the inlet tube at the bottom below the connecting tube using vise grips, hammer or a vise! Drill 2 holes in the hose tube one above the connecting tube and on about 2” (50mm) from hose end when fitted. A strange as it sounds, it increases the velocity of air and increase suction inside the tube even with the hose tube open at the end. A video showing 5 things to make a better sandblast cabinet shows this in detail. It works in a bucket a well. Keep the air dry as well. Check you technical information or ask the paint supplier but many epoxies do not have “UV” protectants mixed in. Yes, it is under the bottom where the sun rarely shines, but after 3 coats of mixed “A & B”, who wouldn’t want it to last 3-5 years? If you have a urethane based clear that mixes with an activator or hardener, flat or glossy, it will provide a tougher rock chip protectant than straight up epoxy. An option that is huge in the US States, is to spray with U-Pol black bed liner. It creates a texture that you control somewhat, but has “UV” and protects from rock chips and salty water. Does the poxy spray protect chassis from rust? Just go up to di and back and don’t drive through the water, can you also spray over a black paint on your body? My chassis was sprayed black when I bought it? Cheers legends

Hey mate, How would you go about doing the chassis under the cab? Would you recommend lifting it off? If so, how? Restoring an HJ75, preparing to go ahead and do the same as you. Do you see any issue in once sand blasting, spraying a coat of rust converter, then doing the chassis paint? Any other tips regarding restoration would be much appreciated. Keep up the good work! 👍🏽

I restored an FJ 45 years ago painted it in Acrylic dune beige, took it to a car show swap meet a bloke pulled up next to me in an HJ47 done in 2pack it looked like glass he was sort of smiling at me then looking back at his when the time comes to be judged I won first prize, the bloke next to me went to the judges asking why he didn't win, the 3 judges turned around and said they were never painted in 2 Pack and were never that shiny so i had the last laugh i am now restoring an FJ 45 with a turbo diesel and 5-speed gearbox disc brakes mickey Thompsom Baja tyres allround snorkel ect. then i have another FJ45 i am putting a common rail 3-litre turbo diesel in it out of a Toyota Hilux with Auto box

Hold on......... you said as good as new, like they come from the factory! Pretty sure they didn't prime them with rust in the factory..?

Do not use sand as it also contains salt which you are then blasting into the steel to create rust further down the line

As an expert, I can tell you that you are not using high enough cfm compressor. There should be no visible scale, or flash rust at all with a single pass.
