Comparing a regular EMG 40P5 to a 40PA5X which is an alnico version with higher headroom preamp. What I hear is that the X series is less compressed and has less treble with a tiny bit more mids. Not a huge difference by any means.
Perfectly agee with you. The PA5X pickup sounds really like a precision std. pickup, but i prefer the 40P one 'cause it has a big, fat, V-frequency shaped and modern P sound. But this is a great and interesting video. Thank you!!
I like your description. Any of the P or PX with a ceramic magnet is better for heavy music in my opinion. Also with the alnico one you could blend in a very different bridge pickup for variety.
Double P works good for his kind of music. When you're not playing really distorted, that can be a tough sound to use. But yeah the regular ceramic P is one of my favorite pickups to use solo'd
@@klaymeister it certainly sounds fat and punchy. You will hear that in a mix from miles away. I mean I don't hate the DC, and i like the J ok but i am tempted to go P or PX times two because I really like that sound. I do metal and hard rock.. but I also like other styles of music and I am sure it can do RnB
@@klaymeister Sorry, just expressing my general frustration at videos where the poster seems too shy to speak. This is especially frustrating with new equipment reviews. Not so much here. You just got caught in the crossfire on a bad day. Thanks for the effort in presenting an option.
