These candles would be awesome for any event!
BUSINESS INQUIRIES ONLY: SimplyHandmade89 (at) gmail (dot) com
SUPPLIES:
- Soy Candle Wax
- Crayons (colors of your choice)
- Fragrance
- Candle Wicks
- Painter's Tape
- 8 Quarters
- Flat Edge
- Candle Holder
- Container for mixing wax (I used a glass cup)
- Hot Glue
- Hot Glue Gun
-------------------------------------------------------------
PROCESS:
- Stack 8 quarters and hold together with painter's tape
- Glue the wick to the bottom of the candle holder
- In a container, add the wax and desired crayon color
- Microwave until it's liquid (approx 2 min.)
- Add the fragrance after microwaving
- Place the candle holder on the stacked quarters, creating an angle.
- Pour the wax mixture into the candle and let it sit for approx 20 minutes, or until hardened
- "scrape" the sides of the candle to cover any holes
- Repeat the above steps for melting wax
- Turn the candle holder in the opposite direction and pour the next color on top.
- Repeat until you have the 3-colors in your candle.
- Enjoy!
You can definitely keep the holder flat, and create the TriColor candle in that way, or even create an ombre effect! Be creative!
Thanks for watching! Please leave any requests in the comments below. :)

Great video for beginners! Thank you! I did this with my 9 year old daughter (I handled the hot wax). Instead of hot gluing the wick, I just dipped it in melted wax from another candle and that worked great. Make sure your tilted votive is secure (mine fell over the first time). I found the short wicks at Michaels for a few dollars. I got the microwavable soy wax chips and essential scented oil from there too. Thanks again! They burn great and look cool!

Thank God for your video. I just got into the habit of recycling old candles to make new ones and wanted to know how to achieve this style. Girl I'm so glad, I'm gonna do some now. I love candles, especially the pillar candles. I usually decorate with them but they're so expensive, like $ 80.00 and up here in the Islands. So I came up with the idea without actually knowing that it was already on youtube to recycle old ones or just go out and buy the singles, melt and reuse. It's a good thing when a woman can spice up her home without breaking the bank. lol ;-)

Scraping the edge between layers is a good idea. The bleeding colors you get without scraping is not a factor of your wax choice. All wax will do this. Like most materials (water is a notable exception), wax expands when you heat it. When it cools it shrinks again and pulls away from the container. The bleeding color is just the second layer of wax filling the gap between the wax and the jar.

fellow candlemaker here - I find that you can use an old pen to easily center and stick the wick to the bottom, saving the trouble of doing it by hand :) Remove the ink tube from the pen, so that its just the barrel, then feed the wick through that so that the tab is flush - picture for reference > www.candletech.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/bicpentrick1.jpg

@SimplyHandmade
@SimplyHandmade 9 лет назад
Sakina Sehgal I used fragrance oil I got from my local craft store. I'm sure you can use essential oils, but I'm not sure how it will react with heat - it may not be as potent as fragrance oils. If that's what you're looking for then you can use it :) It's all personal preference.
@SimplyHandmade
@SimplyHandmade 9 лет назад
Sheika Joelouise M. Ramirez you can definitely use beeswax but from what I know it's much more than melting the wax and pouring it into a container. I would do some research but I know you will need a specific kind of wick and you need to blend the wax with another oil.

I wouldn't recommend using straight crayons since the wick might clog.
@JohnDoe-gm5qr

I just melt mine on the warmer on my electric stove. It is not that hot a burner like all the other ones. The ones used most get red hot and the warmer doesn't even turn red. It only gets hot enough that it might cause a burn if but you would have to be a real klutz to get anything worse than a second degree burn from the warmer. It must have taken 15 minutes to melt the wax and the warmer is good because it is less likely to cause a fire even if the jar cracks. Even if that happens I could just clean the wax up with a razor blade when it hardens and use a glass safe degreaser to get the rest off or even warm it a bit and wipe it with a paper towel. BE CAREFUL if you do either of those last two things since they can be dangerous, I am not responsible if you or someone you love ends up in the hospital or other less desirable place. I am also not responsible if you burn your house down or any other houses or buildings or cause other damage to any properties as a result. If you can not do it safely you are best not to do it at all.

EXTREMELY DANGEROUS! You endanger yourself and others gravely! 1st. the problem, after that, 2nd. an alternative 1. In case of overheating, for example due to wrong time setting, or device failure, the wax would vaporize into a large burning cloud! Since the microwave is a sealed space, it would be opend explosively.2. An alternative: Heat water in an old large cocking pott. After boiling take it from the stove. put a smaller pot, filled with wax, into the large. The heat of the water is sufficiant, to melt the wax. Takes ~ 15 - 30 Minutes.
