A trick to smooth the wrinkles a little more: turn your iron on high heat and iron the surface of your ironing board, then just rub your bag over the heated ironing board to “iron” it.
Oh man!! I have been away from my sewing machine for YEARS. I need to refamiliarize myself with it and put my stash to use. That vinyl stuff looks so cool. Oh the projects I can make. Thanks for reigniting the sewing flame that has been sputtering on a pilot light. LOL
You explained that tutorial superbly. I've seen other tutorials how to make these but they don't talk you through as well as you have. Thanks Laura. I really love your tutorials.
I think I am going to try this with all sorts of things in the vinyl sandwich: gift wrap, scrap book paper, maybe even extra copies of favorite photos!
Thank you for clear simple instruction without filler. I would have appreciated seeing you use the iron on the vinyl and stitching the fabric on the zipper end as those steps are new to me. Thank you. 💜
My kids n grandkids are gonna love this. Specially if I put the candy in a Ziploc and put it inside. What a cute gift for Christmas. Thanks Laura, this was AAAAWWWWESOME
Laura, you are giving me life... first with the measuring tape key fob I made...now this..... I see a M&M bags in my very near future... I'll post to your Facebook page when I make it..... I'm living for this... Jon
I love these, I been making them for a few years now I use any sweet or crisp packet, lovely to make fun for the kids. They work better if you put a linning in.
Genius :). I'm going to make bags for my grown children and grandbabe using photocopies of their childhood artwork and written notes. There are Endless applications for this Splendid idea. Thank you :)
You are so awesome. I dont sew, but you make the tutorials easy to understand. I actually feel like I could accomplish these great patterns you share. Loads of love
I'm going to use this for my daughters school recycling project along with cereal box notepad, cereal cox folder..capri-sun bag and a skittles pencil pouch!! she's learning to sew and this will be so cute!!
We just emptied a Skittles bag while waiting out Hurricane Irma. I will go get a zipper and make one of these for a young girl who came to our house with her family when they were evacuated. She will love it. Thanks for the tutorial!
As usual, another great video! We're going to a Willie Nelson concert at Billy Bob's (TX), soon. You're only allowed to bring in a bag (max) 5.5" x 8.5". I'm now thinking of using a mini-print of the ad poster, instead of candy wrappers. Thanks!
Just found this video! Great directions. Thank you. This is the cleverest idea!! I made my first 'practice' one with a Tater Tot bag. It's so cute. I wondered about the copyright thing if I sold them at a craft fair. Hint: Before turning the bag I blew my hair dryer into my bag for about 5 seconds to soften the vinyl which made turning it was very easy. Thanks again for the video.
Agree with many comments. Fun project...chocolate, not Skittles. And the idea given of pictures if you laminate both sides! Laura I like your enthusiasm and the projects, like this and reversible valance that don't require patterns. Thank you.
Omg! Binge watching your channel. I reuse so many things but you have given me ideas i never thought of. I used the iron vinyl to make a blotter for my daughters desk and cover a vintage chair to match her rom decor of beauty and the beast bedsheets and rose fabric accents.
I can honestly say, I wish ALL my professors were as wonderful in explaining and showing how to do your tutorials. You are wonderful, and so pleasant. Thank you for coming into my crafts way of life. I enjoy it so much more. Mary K. INGRAM
So cool! Can’t wait to try it. Laura, I always have trouble with using a longer zipper. I’m afraid to stitch over it and break my needle. Do you hand sew it?
very nice tutorial, thank you. I would add a cotton lining instead of clear tape,it looks slightly unfinished, not so cosy. I also saw in other tutorial that regular wide clear tape was used to cover top of the sweets bag with no ironing needed. This is just another way to laminate it.
I love the way you construct these candy bags, Laura. And the pink and yelliw log canin quilt behind you is gorgeous. Do you have a pattern for this quilt top?
Lovely, did you know you can put small chocolate and chip packets on a baking tray, low heat, they shrink and you punch a hole in one corner, place a split ring through hole and a new key ring is born!
I’m going to round off my bottom corners. You can put one type of candy bag on one side and another type on the other side, I.e. skidded in one side and MnM’s on the other. Since I don’t eat candy, I’ll have to wait until Halloween and save the wrapping from the candy I give out. Ha ha.
Thermo web iron on vinyl from ebay - look out for free postage in the UK. I think it should perform similar to this product. £4.99 for half a meter by 33cms. I hope to have some fun with this oroduct. Thank you Laura.
QUESTION: Can you use this same vinyl on fabric or is that a completely different product? I've been wondering about this for making bags to keep the bottoms clean.
I wondered about putting it onto fabric to make it more durable for pencil cases or whatever. Avoid me feeling sick from eating ALL of the sweets in one go. lol
I use vinyl on the outside and either fabric lining or leave inside of bag if I want them food safe. These are a favourite with everyone. I always have a couple in my purse. One as a coin purse the other with herbal tea bags.
Lovely idea. Especially when the one comment said something about making them from photocopies of grandkids artwork, etc. That would be so fun to have. 1 question, as I am not a "sewer" and just dabble now and then (your things often are just perfect for "dabbling". LOL) - you show sewing over and then trimming the one side on the zipper, but as you are right-side-outting the bag I can see the other end is still sticking past the bag edge. Do you do anything with that side? I'm unclear on that part. Thanks so much, love your videos.
