In this video I give detailed directions on how to shorten these cordless window blinds. It can look intimidating at first, but there's nothing to it! All you need are a pair of scissors and a couple of basic hand tools.
Some tools used in this video include:
Cutco Model 77 Scissors:

Precision Long Nose Pliers:
amzn.to/2VqFfnQ
Painters Tool:

Wasted 2 hours yesterday trying to feed those ladder cord ends back into the bottom rail and line them up with the slots in the buttons to hold them tight. Just spent 7 minutes watching you use needle nose pliers and NOT trying to match up the ladder cord ends with the slots in the buttons. You just saved me from seriously considering suicide. I can now go back to my friends' house and shorten the remaining blinds and not look like a complete idiot in the process. Levolor needs to update its "picture" instructions to include those 2 very important install hints. Thanks, buddy!

You saved my blinds from the official video’s attempts to blind me with their stringy, curt video that was just too light on the details (puns intended); the difference is night and day. In all seriousness, the Levolor instruction video should DEFINITELY NOT appear first in the search results as it pales in comparison to your clear, concise and handy tips that have all the right strategies and explanations. Another tip I can give to y'all is if you have a convertible screwdriver (change out different heads), take out the head and press the empty body into the button cavity (where you would push in the button), hold the bottom to stabilize it and push down! This is great! Ty! So I noticed there's some long strings tying those buttons inside, that's just so they'll hang as to keep you from losing the buttons right?
@TheHomeImprovementChannel
@TheHomeImprovementChannel 5 месяцев назад
I think so... If I remember right you can cut off any excess string you don't need. Be careful in doing that and make sure not to cut anything to short or cut anything that is still needing to be long! Just whatever was excess. It's been a minute since I did one of those, so I can't remember off the top of my head.

What did you do with the excess pull cord? Did you tuck it into the bottom slat? Will that work? Also, my pull cord goes through a hole on the two side set of strings. It seems I have to get to the end of the cord to remove the excess slats.
@TheHomeImprovementChannel
@TheHomeImprovementChannel Год назад
I seem to remember cutting off most of it once I figured out how long I needed it, and then tucked the rest away. But it's been a couple of years so I don't remember exactly..

Great video, I would just add that the buttons can be stuck in too much so that prying them out with a screwdriver breaks the outer edge of the button and they wouldn’t come out using my thumb from inside the channel. Solution was to tap them out using a small (1/4” x 1”) piece of wood and a hammer. Thanks again for a very useful video !

I’m having trouble removing the buttons. I tried several devices but the rim around the buttons cracked as if dry rotted. Called Levolor and they are aware of the button problem. I was advised to return the blind for another pair. However, I’m concerned about the next set 😮.
@TheHomeImprovementChannel

Interesting... I haven't heard of that problem. I suppose you could open the box in the store and try it before you let them cut them down to your window size. They won't accept returns after they've cut them..

I just bought some Levolor cordless blinds and in the optional instructions sections it reads THESE BLINDS CANNOT BE SHORTENED DUE TO THE CORDLESS OPERATING SYSTEM. Anything different from 9/21 to now? Asking for the future. I already used the new blinds at a window where they fit fine. Took the older corded blinds and moved them to the window to replace the busted blinds. Those I know how to shorten those. Thanks.

@@TheHomeImprovementChannel The blinds I have are aluminum. Model number #929770. When compared to my old corded blinds, I really do not see a difference in the set up.

@TheHomeImprovementChannel 2 года назад
@@justmythought1586 Yea so I found them on Lowes website and sure enough one of the reviews said there were no shortening instructions in the instructions. So they called customer service and they told them these "can not be shortened". So I haven't seen what the newer models look like. The ones in the video were model 929839 which are an all vinyl faux wood. So yours are apparently a different model, although I'm not sure what the strings look like and how they differ from mine.
@justmythought1586
@justmythought1586 2 года назад
@@TheHomeImprovementChannel I called Levolor. I was told that as soon as I cut the cord, it would shoot up towards the mechanism at the top releasing all the blinds. The only module that can be cut are the faux wood ones. To keep the same kind of blind, I would have to special order to fit a particular size of window.
@TheHomeImprovementChannel
@TheHomeImprovementChannel 2 года назад
@@justmythought1586 Wow... good to know. The faux wood ones are the ones I used in the video. They should at least make a note of it in the instructions so nobody tries that. Thanks for the info.

@TheHomeImprovementChannel
@TheHomeImprovementChannel Год назад
HI, I can't say for sure. I've never tried that. I suppose you might run into a problem with the weighting of the blinds since cutting more than 24 will lighten the load quite a bit... I'm not sure what other problems you might run into.

how do you replace a slat that has broken?
@TheHomeImprovementChannel
@TheHomeImprovementChannel 11 месяцев назад
Hi, very easy. There are little grooves cut into the slats where the strings come down... The slats will very easily pull out from the side, either left or right. You just have to work the slats around the strings where the grooves are and slide in a new slat... Hope that helps... 😀
