As a hobbyist we typically use 2 teaspoons for every 4 ounces melted wax and that puts off a nice scent throw when paired with a wooden wick. We heat our oil to 185 let it cool to around 150 degrees, stir for about a minute or two, then pour into the container. This way produces a very nice scent throw, but we are worried that we're using too much oil & wasting money; however, it does not sweat at the top when we do it this way. TLDR are we using too much fragrance oil? 2 teaspoons for every 4oz melted wax?

10% has worked well for all the Wooden Wick FOs I’ve tested except for Peppermint & Cocoa. That scent was pretty weak so will try it at 12% next time. I also found the scent gets stronger if the candle is left for at least a week or two before burning.

People don't measure in percentages. Make the math simple. When I make paste wax for tools, I use 5 parts wax to 1 part linseed oil. Paste wax for finishing is 3 parts wax to 1 part boiled linseed oil. Cutting board butter is 3 parts mineral oil to 1 part wax. What is the calculation for fragrance. x part was to x part oil. Very simple to give us! you say 10%. So...that is 10 parts wax to 1 part fragrance?
@makesyofficial
@makesyofficial Год назад
Hi DC! So sorry if that wasn't clearly articulated. It would be 10 parts wax to 1 part fragrance. OR 10% fragrance, 90% wax. Thus a 10% FO load would be 1 oz fragrance to 9 oz wax in an 10 oz candle.
@maarten2803
@maarten2803 4 года назад
Your fragrance percentages are incorrect. If the vessel is 10 OZ (wax+frag), and you take 10% frag at 1 OZ (as in the guide), that leaves 9 OZ of wax. 1oz frag/9oz wax= 11.11% fragrance load in the wax. To correctly do it; (vessel oz) / (desired frag load +1, 1.10 for 10%)= amount of wax to use. (Vessel oz) - (wax used)= (amount of frag needed). This seems complicated, but it's not. deriving the formula: (wax used) + (wax used)*(frag load, like 10% or 0.10) = vessel oz (wax used) * [1+ frag load] = vessel oz (both terms have wax used in them, so you can put it up front) wax used= vessel oz / [1+fragload] => frag needed = (wax used) * (frag load) frag needed= ( vessel oz/ [1+frag load] ) * (frag load)

Is it incorrect, though? Your formula uses division to find a percentage, which is appropriate. The appended chart does not look to find percentages, the chart already establishes those. The missing variable here is the amount of oil needed to obtain the percentage. Your formula already has the amount of oil needed, the missing variable is the load. I do see your point, though, about the adding the fragrance to the overall weight, but I wonder if the author of the chart did not figure that in.
@maarten2803
@maarten2803 4 года назад
@@Eristhenes No the chart keeps it more simple, but that means if you take the 10% from the chart, you fragrance load 10% of the vessel volume. That would mean the fragrance load in the wax is higher than 10%. The comment looks complicated, but if I could write it down, it would look very simple.
